DEEP WEB - Dark Net & Silk Road Documentary with Dir. Alex Winter & Lyn Ulbricht
By TheLipTV
DEEP WEB is the documentary that explores the Dark Net, Silk Road, and the arrest of Ross Ulbricht. We look at the film trailer and hear from director Alex Winter and Ulbricht’s mother, Lyn Ulbricht, about the miscarriage of justice going on against the advocates of the dark net. How the Prison Industrial Complex, the War on Drugs, and the vanquishing of online privacy is colliding to imprison Ross Ulbricht, plus the future of the Dark Net, and the human face of the struggle for internet freedom is explored in this BYOD interview, hosted by Ondi Timoner at the 2015 SXSW Festival.

Florida Lawmakers Move to Legalize Recreational Marijuana
Shane Trejo
Two bills introduced in Florida would authorize marijuana to be taxed and regulated similar to alcohol, legalizing the plant, and effectively nullifying the federal prohibition on the same.
Senate Bill 1176 (S.1176) and House Bill 1297 (H.1297), introduced Sen. Dwight Bullard and Rep. Randolph Bracy, respectively, would make Florida the first state to legalize marijuana for recreational purposes through the legislature rather than the popular vote should either pass into law.
The bills would allow individuals aged 21 or older to do the following:
(a) Use, possess, or transport marijuana accessories and up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana.
(b) Transfer or furnish, without remuneration, up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 6 seedlings to a person who is 21 years of age or older.
(c) Possess, grow, cultivate, process, or transport up to 6 marijuana plants, including seedlings, and possess the marijuana produced by the marijuana plants on the premises where the plants were grown.
(d) Purchase up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, up to 6 seedlings, and marijuana accessories from a retail marijuana store.

Man Left Sitting in Prison for Months for "Possession" of Vitamins

Unfortunately, the police state has reached the point of consummation. While a person should be able to go out unmolested and carry vitamins, supplements, food, protein drinks to go or even ride in a car with a dirty spoon on the floor - each individual runs the risk of the dreaded "drug-dealer" accusation. That accusation is only the beginning of a cascading nightmare.
While it should be a no-brainer and an easy situation to clear up, it simply isn't with such a mucked up system that treats citizens like heinous murderers.
This was the case for 31-year-old Joseph Burrell of Mankato, Minnesota. Last November, Burrell was jailed in a parking lot for possessing a "white powder" after police stopped him for driving without lights. Some kind of field drug test falsely identified it as amphetamine drugs, writes John Vibes.

'Silk Road' Was Safer Than the Streets for Buyers/Sellers

Ross Ulbricht is an Eagle Scout with no criminal record |
Meghan Ralston
In the aftermath of the guilty verdicts handed down in the case of Ross Ulbricht, some journalists have been having a field day reporting on the downfall of the ‘alleged mastermind’ behind Silk Road, while others are shining a light on the apparent miscarriage of justice. But curiously absent in the deluge of reporting around Silk Road is the discussion about the drug war. While it’s disappointing that we’d rather use words like ‘alleged mastermind’ than ‘evidence of drug war failure,’ it’s perhaps understandable, because it’s not always easy to talk about the uncomfortably obvious:
People use drugs. They get those drugs from someone else. In order to consume drugs, someone had to buy them, and someone had to sell them. We don’t have to like it, but we do have to acknowledge the reality of it.
Our entire approach to responding to that reality has thus far been a dismal disappointment. Silk Road was, in the most basic sense, a product of our failed war on drugs—a response to our woefully inadequate way of managing not only drug use, but also drug demand and drug sales.

Blackwater-like contractor seeks to legalize private police in the U.S.
![]() |
Private contractors from LEAR Asset Management |
Eric Blair
There are very few news stories about government overreach that shock me these days, but this week there were two -- both in California. Each came and went with barely a whisper in the media, even from the "liberty" news.
Perhaps we're so bombarded with mafia tactics by the government that some events just get lost in the chaos. And no, one of these developments is NOT the Los Angeles School District acquiring tanks and grenade launchers, although that's probably of equal significance. Below is the first of these local stories. The second will be in a follow up article.
This is probably the scariest development in law enforcement, ever, and I don't say that lightly. If you thought no-knock SWAT raids to serve warrants for non-violent crimes was the epitome of tyranny, wait until you get a load of private mercenaries conducting special forces-type raids on American citizens.
That's right, a report out of Mendocino, California admits that Blackwater-like private "security" contractors are now being used to "police pot". Mysterious soldiers repelled out of unmarked helicopters fully armed for war to raid legal medical cannabis gardens last month. They didn't identify themselves or present paperwork of any kind. They just destroyed the garden and left. Other witnesses claim this invading army is also "confiscating" product.

Study suggests federal law to combat use of 'club drugs' has done more harm than good

A federal law enacted to combat the use of "club drugs" such as Ecstasy — and today's variation known as Molly — has failed to reduce the drugs' popularity and, instead, has further endangered users by hampering the use of measures to protect them.
University of Delaware sociology professor Tammy L. Anderson makes that case in a paper she will present at the 109th Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association. The paper, which has been accepted for publication this fall in the American Sociological Association journal Contexts, examines the unintended consequences of the 2003 RAVE (Reducing Americans' Vulnerability to Ecstasy) Act. The act was designed to address the use of drugs, sometimes by very young teens, at the all-night electronic-dance-music parties known as raves that were especially common in the 1990s.
The law targeted club owners and promoters, holding them criminally responsible for illegal drug use at their events.
And that's the problem, Anderson says.
