Researchers have long known that there is water in the form of ice on Mars. Now, new research from NASA's Mars rover Curiosity shows that it is possible that there is liquid water close to the surface of Mars. The explanation is that the substance perchlorate has been found in the soil, which lowers the freezing point so the water does not freeze into ice, but is liquid and present in very salty salt water - a brine. The results are published in the scientific journal Nature.
In August 2012, the Mars rover Curiosity landed on Mars in the large crater, Gale, located just south of the equator. The giant crater is 154 kilometers in diameter and the rim of the crater is almost 5 kilometers high. In the middle of the crater lies the mountain, Mount Sharp. In over 2½ years, Curiosity has travelled more than 10 km from the landing site towards Mount Sharp and has carried out many studies along the way.

Paradise Stolen - The Myth of Terrorism
![]() |
| Anthony Freda Art |
Part 1 of this video series from Stefan Verstappen was a warning to children about a world that was stolen from them. It offered a stark condemnation to adults who continue to ignore the reality of the wicked ways in which government has used their money, both donated and extorted.
Part 2 suggested that the innate practicality of small, sustainable communities is a solution to the massive mismanagement by a government dedicated solely to a megacorporate/banker/war economy. Our modern economic system is actually not one built upon efficiency, as it is often believed to be; it is a system of massive inefficiency and predation, which has directly resulted in the bankrupt and war-ravaged world we see around us.
Part 3 made the controversial argument that overpopulation is a myth, once again designed to steal our natural rights and turn our lives over to a system of centralized management.
Now in part 4, Stefan turns his attention to the increasingly pervasive myth of terrorism. Is the government really being truthful when it claims that it is "trying to keep you safe"? Is spending $6 trillion actually getting the job done? Can government continue violating the rights of people across the planet and still maintain any claim to a moral high ground? This, and more, compounds the myth of terrorism firmly installed in the American psyche following 9/11 ...

Montana Legislature Passes Bill to Limit Federal Militarization of Local Police
![]() |
| Dees Illustration |
A bill that would heavily diminish the effect of federal surplus equipment programs that militarize local police was given final approval by the Montana House today.
The vote was 79-20.
Introduced by Rep. Nicholas Schwaderer (R-Superior), House Bill 330 (HB330) bans state or local law enforcement agencies from receiving drones that are armored, weaponized, or both; aircraft that are combat configured or combat coded; grenades or similar explosives and grenade launchers; silencers; and “militarized armored vehicles” from federal military surplus programs.

Everything You Need to Know About the CIA Torture Report in Under 4 Minutes
Activist Post
If someone tries to hide something from you for ten years, it's probably pretty embarrassing or shameful. Over the past ten years, the CIA has misled Congress about their post-9/11 torture program, withheld evidence and tried to cover up the facts. In the next few weeks, a new bipartisan Senate report is expected to reveal the truth about the CIA's torture programs. Here's why you want to know what's in the Torture Report:

From Fukushima to Hiroshima
![]() |
| ORDER HERE |
Regular readers of Activist Post are likely familiar with the work of Richard Wilcox, PhD. His on-the-ground reports and intensive research into the Fukushima disaster have been instrumental in raising essential questions about the history of nuclear power. In fact, he asserts that the Fukushima explosions and the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings are intimately connected events.
Dr. Wilcox and a team of editors are helping to present a comprehensive exploration of this nuclear will to power that holds little regard for life itself. They recently have published a definitive and riveting book: Fukushima: Dispossession or Denuclearization? If there is one sober assessment of what this unparalleled event means to humanity, this scholarly yet practical review is it.
In this eye-opening exposé you will discover diverse dispossession effects including:
- Market distortions
- Radiation damage to personal property
- Wrecked livelihoods
- Trangenerational mutations potentially threatening health and happiness
- Corrupt influences of the nuclear industry
Contributors include:
- Richard Wilcox
- Andrew McKillop
- Christopher Busby
- Majia Nadesan
- Antony Boys
- Harvey Wasserman
- Paul Langley
- Adam Broinowski
- Christian Lystbaek
- The Fukushima Five
This is an opportunity for readers to gain essential knowledge, while contributing to the recovery process from what could prove to be one of humanity's greatest challenges.
NOTE: The last chapter of this extraordinary and eye-opening book provides only a glimpse into what are perhaps the most important messages that Fukushima has to deliver to humankind. The editors have graciously made this available for free - including graphics and video.

DARPA's Cheetah Bot Is Off The Leash
Activist PostDARPA continues to develop an array of robots designed for the battlefield. Naturally, one of their slated applications is to chase human prey.
In February, 2011, DARPA first announced its next-generation robot called the Cheetah; it was heralded as the world's fastest legged robot. In fact, its speed of 28.3 mph was faster than the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt. However, its speed was reached in a laboratory setting, tethered on a treadmill for stability.
MIT researchers are now announcing that they have solved the riddle which kept the Cheetah on its leash - the secret lies in a new computer algorithm that not only enables untethered running, but jumping as well.

Action Alert! Help Activist Post Expand and Go Ad-Free
As most of you know, Global Political Awakening has been republishing Activist Post articles since we began in 2010. Activist Post is on the cutting edge; working around the clock to provide the most important news of the day to promote peace and liberty, counter the mainstream propaganda and provide a platform for other independent journalists Please support their goal to expand and go ad-free.
How can a man be a philosopher and not maintain his vital heat by better methods than other men.– Henry David Thoreau.

Activist Post
Dear friends,
We are excited to announce our plans for a new Ad-Free platform, but we need your help to launch it. Go to our crowdfunder now and get some cool perks for supporting us.
When we began this journey four years ago to rant about the establishment and curate the most important news of the day, we never imagined that nearly a million people would visit our blog each month. Your support has humbled us beyond measure.
Yet, despite record traffic, our ad revenue is insufficient to advance our mission to promote peace and liberty. The good news is that the great awakening is growing exponentially, the bad news is truth telling doesn't always pay the bills.
We started this blog part time, as a maddening itch for truth and justice that had no foundation in prestige or in making money. Today, we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to work around the clock to provide a counter to mainstream propaganda and a platform for other independent journalists. However, our income, if broken down hourly, would make a fast-food worker blush at their good fortune.

Ideas of peace, love, and liberty have great power. In fact, the establishment is scared to death of these ideas taking root. Anyone who desires control over others would naturally be terrified of these principles because they are the precise antidote to their agenda. But they have incredibly vast resources at their disposal, and all we have in independent news is each other. Our crowd. Our tribe. You!
We always envisioned an open-source platform that would rise or fall based on the merit of the information, and hard work and dedication. However, there are very few ways to make money in open-source media and stay true to our principles. We originally chose market-based advertising as our chief source of revenue because it’s voluntary, but we know many of you despise the advertisements.
But, alas, fighting the war of ideas against the established order takes more than passion. It takes action and it takes resources. It takes the crowd support for alternative media to survive and thrive.
In the past we've opposed offering a subscription news service because we believe information this important must be free, but now we clearly see value in offering an Ad-Free experience. That said, we will always maintain the free version of our website with ads.
We know times are tight, so we’ve priced this subscription as low as possible to be able to bring this new platform to you. Membership in this Ad-Free community will be $5/month, or basically like buying one Starbucks coffee per month for our crew.
We refuse to back down from our goals - now we have 45 days to show the establishment that people-powered media means business like never before. As a big thank you, we have put together some exciting perks for helping with this mission.

DARPA's Jet Pack Gives Supersoldiers a 4-Minute Mile
![]() |
| ASU |
But no future soldier could be complete without a jetpack. The Arizona State University-DARPA project is called 4MM, for 4-minute mile. Similar to the goals of the Department of Defense's self-stated "Lucy" technology to create expert snipers from ordinary soldiers, the Jet Pack seen in the video below would create the highest level speed and endurance even where none existed before. Obviously, the mission to create drone-like humans continues ... full speed ahead.

Action Alert! Keep the Internet FREE from FCC Regulation
Activist PostFollowing Internet Slowdown day on September 10, millions of people and businesses across the Web continue taking action against transforming the Internet from a level playing field to a tiered system of privileged access.
There are many threats to our free and open Internet access, and we have made great strides in preventing some of them, but we need to be louder than ever now. For those who might not be familiar with what is at stake please read the following link, which contains a key video as well:
Quite simply, the FCC (government) proposal to "allow" fast lanes is a red herring designed to scare the public into giving them authority over the Internet. This is the last group that should ever wield such power.
Please click the banner above or below to sign American Commitment’s petition to Tom Wheeler, the chairman of the FCC —and tell him that the American people won’t stand for a federal takeover of the Internet. A.C. will send a copy of your petition to your Congressman too — just so that they know where their constituents stand in the fight to stop these crippling Internet regulations.

Robots Could Learn How to Herd Humans Like Sheep: Study
Activist Post
Information from a new study into the lives of sheepdogs could be used to model robots after their techniques. This takes on a sinister possibility when we understand that researchers are opening up the Internet to robots for autonomous learning. Robo Brain is being funded by the military-surveillance-industrial complex. The press release below specifically mentions crowd control as a prime application. What could possibly go wrong?
Sheepdogs use just two simple rules to round up large herds of sheep, scientists have discovered.
The findings could lead to the development of robots that can gather and herd livestock, crowd control techniques, or new methods to clean up the environment.

Real-Time Community News App in Development for Citizen Journalists
Making the unique freedom of speech and privacy laws of Finland available to the rest of the world.

Activist Post
The decentralization of technology is a key component in overcoming restrictions imposed by governments upon independent media. Recently, we all have witnessed the heavy-handed approach law enforcement has taken again the citizens of Ferguson, even going so far as to apparently use a kill-switch during one particularly chaotic moment.
We also see how social media is often used by the establishment to gather data and predict behavior, while our smart gadgets have become windows into our private lives. This needs to be turned upside down; we cannot be afraid to use the tools at our disposal, but they must be reconfigured so that our social activity is being utilized in the most constructive way possible.
A new map-based news app called Vews is in development that aims to offer an easy-to-use citizen journalism platform that lets you know in real time - near or far - where news events are taking place so that you can get involved. It is wrapped within the framework of non-censorship and privacy that has made Finland #1 in press freedom worldwide. The video below offers additional details.

EFF, ACLU Demolish “It’s Just Metadata” Claim in NSA Spying Appeal
Americans Deserve Full Protection of the Fourth Amendment for their Telephone Records, Groups Argue

Activist Post
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) today filed an amicus brief in Klayman v. Obama, a high-profile lawsuit that challenges mass surveillance, arguing that Americans' telephone metadata deserves the highest protection of the Fourth Amendment.
Larry Klayman, conservative activist and founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, was among the first plaintiffs to sue the National Security Agency (NSA) over the collection of telephone metadata from Verizon customers that was detailed in documents released by Edward Snowden. In December 2013, Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary ruling that the program was likely unconstitutional, and the case is currently on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
In the new amicus brief in Klayman v. Obama, the EFF and ACLU lawyers repudiate arguments by U.S. officials that the records are "just metadata" and therefore not as sensitive as the contents of phone calls. Using research and new case law, the civil liberties groups argue that metadata (such as who individuals called, when they called, and how long they spoke) can be even more revealing than conversations when collected en masse.

Researchers find security flaws in backscatter X-ray scanners
Editor's note: Latest research highlights the ongoing ruse of supposedly tightened airport security. Meanwhile, those who profited from these scanners laugh all the way to the bank. Then of course there are the negative health effects.

Activist Post
A team of researchers from the University of California, San Diego, the University of Michigan, and Johns Hopkins University have discovered several security vulnerabilities in full-body backscatter X-ray scanners deployed to U.S. airports between 2009 and 2013.
In laboratory tests, the team was able to successfully conceal firearms and plastic explosive simulants from the Rapiscan Secure 1000 scanner. The team was also able to modify the scanner operating software so it presents an “all-clear” image to the operator even when contraband was detected.
“Frankly, we were shocked by what we found,” said J. Alex Halderman, a professor of computer science at the University of Michigan. “A clever attacker can smuggle contraband past the machines using surprisingly low-tech techniques.”
