WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President Barack Obama on Wednesday vowed to keep pressure on the Al-Qaeda terror group following the death of Osama bin Laden in last month's daring US raid in Pakistan.

US military operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan have served to "severely cripple Al-Qaeda's capacities," Obama said at a White House press conference.

"Osama bin Laden got the most attention, but before that we decimated some of the upper ranks of Al-Qaeda," he said.

NEW YORK (AFP) - Federal prosecutors dropped charges against Osama bin Laden from attacks spanning more than a decade, officials said in court papers filed in US District Court in New York Friday.

Charges included more than 200 counts of criminal activity such as murder, conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction against civilians and more.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan approved the request, which is a common procedure when the defendant dies.

The decision applies to charges originally filed in June 1998, which were brought against bin Laden for supporting the ambush that killed 18 US soldiers during an attack in Somalia in 1993.

Bin Laden bounce definitely OVER for Obama as new poll shows he could lose the presidency over the economy

Daily Mail

Those who forecast Barack Obama had sealed his second term as president with the killing of Osama Bin Laden look to be wrong.

According to a new poll, the 'Bin laden bounce' has already evaporated

Obama's approval rating surged to 56 per cent in the aftermath of the terrorist's death but now just 47 per cent think he is doing a good job.

But it is domestic policies - notably Obama's handling of the economy - that is driving the frustration of the American public, according to a joint poll conducted by The Washington Post and ABC news.

Fifty-nine per cent, a new high, gave Obama negative marks for his handling of the economy, up from 55 per cent a month earlier.

KABUL (AFP) - The United States has had "no confirmation" that Pakistani Al-Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri died in a drone strike last week, a US defence official speaking on condition of anonymity said Monday.

A senior Pakistani security official said two days ago there were "strong indications" that Kashmiri -- who had a maximum US bounty of $5 million on his head -- had been killed in a US drone strike last Friday.

"We have no confirmation that he’s dead" as of Sunday evening, the official told AFP in Kabul on day three of US Defense Secretary Robert Gates's farewell visit to Afghanistan.

Dempsey urges response to Arab Spring

AFP

LONDON (AFP) - The man named by President Barack Obama to be the top US military officer said Wednesday that American forces must adapt to an uncertain world after the Arab Spring and the death of Osama bin Laden.

In his first public comments since Obama unveiled him as his formal pick for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey also admitted that progress at a national level in Afghanistan was proving difficult.

"The killing of Osama bin Laden was a great moment in terms of taking the leadership of Al-Qaeda and creating difficulties for that organisation," Dempsey told the Royal United Services Institute defence think-tank in London.

But Dempsey underscored the idea that Al-Qaeda was in some ways a "leaderless" organisation that might regenerate in unexpected ways after US commandos killed bin Laden in Pakistan a month ago.

The Last Word On Osama bin Laden

Osama bin Laden was one of the 54 children of Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, a construction magnate who made his fortune by cozening up to the royal family of Saudi Arabia. The bin Laden family has had an intimate relationship with the upper reaches of global power politics for the past half a century.

In 1976 Salem bin Laden, Osama’s half-brother, co-founded Arbusto Energy with George W. Bush.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Pakistan has returned the wreckage of a US helicopter used in the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden early this month, a Pentagon spokesman said Tuesday.

"The wreckage of the helicopter destroyed in the bin Laden operation was returned over the weekend and is now back in the United States," Colonel Dave Lapan told AFP.

The helicopter was damaged in a hard landing at bin Laden's compound and US special forces deliberately blew it up after gunning down the Al-Qaeda leader in the May 1-2 raid, officials have said.

Was Osama SEAL Team Eliminated After Their Raid?

Armed and dangerous.  SEAL team reportedly killed
in helicopter fire immediately after raid.

Infowars

In a sensational and explosive TV report, the Pakistani News Agency has provided a live interview with an eye witness to the US attack on the alleged compound of Osama bin Laden. The eye witness, Mohammad Bashir, describes the event as it unfolded. Of the three helicopters, “there was only one that landed the men and came back to pick them up, but as he [the helicopter] was picking them up, it blew away and caught fire.” The witness says that there were no survivors, just dead bodies and pieces of bodies everywhere. “We saw the helicopter burning, we saw the dead bodies, then everything was removed and now there is nothing.”

I always wondered how a helicopter could crash, as the White House reported, without at least producing injuries. Yet, in the original White House story, the SEALs not only survived a 40-minute firefight with al Qaeda, “the most highly trained, most dangerous, most vicious killers on the planet,” without a scratch, but also survived a helicopter crash without a scratch.

In a world that has been flooded by news, there is usually nothing that rises far above the smoldering lava of sensation--that which consumes all truth and absorbs all lies mixing them into a fiery lake or stew of bubbling nonsense. So much so, that to discover glanced over facts, to question people of importance within government or the machine itself leads to the branding of one as a "conspiracy theorist."

Gates: 'Premature' to eye faster Afghan pullout

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has said accelerating troop withdrawals from Afghanistan because of Osama bin Laden's death would be "premature."

The US covert raid that killed Al-Qaeda's chief has fueled calls to scale back the massive US presence in Afghanistan, just as President Barack Obama reviews plans to begin pulling out some of the 100,000 troops there in July.

Gates, in an interview broadcast on the CBS news show "60 Minutes," said it's too early to consider speeding the pace of withdrawal.

"I think it's premature," he said. "I think we just don't know. It's only been a week. And people are already drawing historical conclusions. I think that's a little quick."

Bin Laden had Pakistan 'complicity': Key US senator

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Senate Intelligence Committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein charged Monday that slain Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden could not have lived as he did in Pakistan without some official "complicity."

"I just don't believe it was done without some form of complicity," Feinstein told reporters as she delivered a stark and scathing warning to the troubled US ally to do more to battle Islamist extremists or risk souring ties.

"I think either we're going to be allies in fighting terror, or the relationship makes less and less sense to me," said the senator, who indicated she foresaw cuts in billions in US aid absent a course correction in Islamabad.

US expects to grill bin Laden women 'soon'

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States said it expects Pakistan will "soon" let it question three widows of Osama bin Laden apprehended during the commando raid that killed him, despite Islamabad's fury over the operation.

But Pakistan said that it had received no formal request for access to the women, as further details emerged of the backdrop to the dramatic May 2 assault in which the Al-Qaeda kingpin was shot dead by US forces.

Bin Laden's Yemeni wife, who was shot in the leg, has told Pakistani investigators that they lived in the compound where bin Laden was killed in the garrison town of Abbottabad -- near Islamabad -- for five years.

US not sorry for bin Laden raid, despite Pakistan anger

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States refused to say sorry Monday for taking out Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, after its estranged anti-terror ally warned it would retaliate against any future strikes.

Amid a deepening crisis between the two uneasy partners, Washington pressed for access to three of the dead Al-Qaeda chief's widows, who it believes may have valuable information on bin Laden's movements and on the terror group.

In a further sign of tension over last week's daring covert raid in Abbottabad, the New York Times meanwhile reported that Pakistani authorities had retaliated by leaking the name of the CIA chief in Islamabad to the media.

So much for the John Wayne, or even Bruce Wayne style, “Cowboy Up” tough American settler myth/street smart caped crusader myth. Post Osama America suffers deja vu all over again as Government Officials, and bureaucracies fan the flames of fear, and discuss further potential clamp downs on transportation, and public events in a way that could even make George Bush blush.

Actually there is a famous antic-dote about John Wayne which if true does embody the former image of feral American life. It seems that the US Govt contacted Mr Wayne at some point during the “Cold War” to warn him of a Communist plot intercepted from the former USSR, to assassinated him; and with him the image of the rugged, No BS, Kill-em-all-and-let-God-sort-em-out American. The American Gov't offered to place John Wayne under their immediate protection. Wayne’s reply? No Thanks. “Me and the Boys are fully armed here. Tell them Ruskies to bring it on! We're ready, locked and loaded.”

In this story we can fully appreciate the Old world order American, while the NWO American begs for protection from a dead terrorist, whom was once a CIA asset (Tim Osman) running a P2OG / Gladio style group known as Al-CIA-da.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The CIA has no plans to withdraw its top spy from Islamabad after his identity was allegedly divulged in a Pakistani newspaper, a US official said.

The publication of the name came amid severe tensions between the two countries, with Islamabad complaining of "unilateralism" after the US raid last week that killed Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil.

"There are currently no plans to pull the CIA's chief of station out of Pakistan," a US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

President says intelligence was 55/45, man inside compound could have been “prince from Dubai”; Abbottabad resident tells BBC man seen watching television in video released by White House was his neighbor, not Osama

During his 60 Minutes interview with CBS News last night, Barack Obama admitted that US intelligence was only 55/45 confident that Bin Laden was even in the compound raided last Sunday night, fearing that the occupant could actually have been a “prince from Dubai,” a skepticism shared by residents of Abbottabad, one of whom told the BBC that the man seen watching television in the tapes released by the White House Saturday was in fact his neighbor, not Bin Laden.

Alternative Media Rankings Surge After bin Laden Assassination Spectacle

This marks the end of the 7-day period since the announcement of the assassination of Osama bin Laden.  Thank you to all of those who continue to follow alternative media, as well as those who are just tuning in -- Liberty, Love, and Peace Will Prevail.

A story like the assassination of "public enemy #1" is naturally going to drive people toward all news sources.  However, we in the alternative news media have been particularly busy since the announcement late Sunday night, as indicated by Alexa website rankings.

For those of us covering the government and mainstream media lies, distortions, and pure propaganda, it has been nearly overwhelming to attend to every facet of this professional wrestling-style spectacle.  As a result, traffic to alternative news sites has surged dramatically.  This is very encouraging, as it indicates that people are not immediately rushing only to the comfort and security of the official story, which is largely framed by appeals to emotion -- rather, people appear to be hungry for facts.  Given that alternative media generally does not have even a fraction of the budget of corporate media, the ranking increases are doubly satisfying.  We are honored to be included with the true news sources below as a reliable indicator of the search for truth and justice amid the miasma of the current official coverage of the bin Laden Assassination Show being peddled for obviously corporate and political reasons.

Bin Laden's death: the morality of celebrating

"The basic idea is that when people experience something together like bin Laden’s death, it makes it more real," said Pyszczynski. "Human beings need to know that their experiences and feelings are shared by others."

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Amid the public revelry, flag waving and cries of joy, some Americans are standing back and questioning the propriety of the raucous celebrations which followed the killing of Osama bin Laden.

"It's awkward to celebrate anyone's death, but it is impossible to feel remorse for one who has caused so much pain and needless suffering in the world," explained the Republican representative from the state of Utah, Rob Bishop.

Late Sunday evening, after President Barack Obama announced the death of the Al Qaeda chief, there was an explosion of emotion across the country. Thousands of younger Americans, mostly students, gathered in front of the White House to shout and cheer.

"I never felt such emotions," said John Kelley, 19. "In my town, we lost a lot of loved ones. It's something they have been waiting for, for so long."
