From Boston to Ferguson: Have We Reached a Tipping Point in the Police State?

The difference between what happened in Boston in the wake of the Boston Marathon explosion and what is happening now in Ferguson, Missouri, is not in the government’s response but in the community’s response.

This is what happens when you ignore the warning signs.

This is what happens when you fail to take alarm at the first experiment on your liberties.

This is what happens when you fail to challenge injustice and government overreach until the prison doors clang shut behind you.

Consider that it was just a little over a year ago that the city of Boston was locked down while police carried out a military-style manhunt for the suspects in the Boston Marathon explosion. At the time, Americans welcomed the city-wide lockdown, the routine invasion of their privacy, and the dismantling of every constitutional right intended to serve as a bulwark against government abuses.

What we are seeing now is a reversal from just a year or so ago when the corporate media glorified the very same tactics being used against the residents of Watertown following the Boston marathon bombing.

I’m sure you remember the pitiful act; video shown by the corporate outlets even depicted residents cheering paramilitary police in armored vehicles in a sort of Orwellian orgy of praise to the state.

While the media glorified the militarized police reaction in Watertown and Boston, many residents told a much more sobering account of the situation.

Ferguson Riots Move the US One Step Closer to Insurrection

Many question the moral authority of the rioting in Ferguson that was triggered by yet another killing of an unarmed teen. The rioting is a symptom of a larger nationwide trend of resistance to the encroaching police state, and specifically the ability of law enforcement officials to kill, maim, and harass without consequence.

The riots began before all of the facts were gathered about the shooting. The timing of the riot is important. Preemptive rioting and the destruction of private property is the third step in a historical cycle that has played out since the foundation of governments. It is a five step cycle that ends in widespread rebellion and insurrection.

5 steps to insurgency

Pamphlets:

Prior to the digital age, pamphlets were the main method of spreading dissent around the world. The pamphlets examined and questioned the authority of the contemporary governments and control systems. In the modern world, pamphlets have been replaced by blogs, social media, and to a smaller degree, adversarial journalists.

Reactive Protests:

Once the seed of dissent is planted, people take to the streets to voice their opposition to the government. These protests occur after the control systems of the era attempt to diffuse an offending incident.

Preemptive Rioting:

Preemptive rioting follows a period of reactive protests that go unanswered by the government. The people begin taking to the streets and destroying private and public property as soon as an offending incident takes place, rather than waiting and hoping for the government to police itself.

Military or Law Enforcement backlash and crackdowns:

These riots and small incidents of resistance trigger a government reaction. The control systems of the country tighten their grip on the people and further curtail civil liberties and infringe on people’s rights. The government crackdown fuels the resistance movement as more people tire of government intrusion.

Happy Ending? Or Happy Now

No matter where I turn the awakening is screaming out at me. Every event and announcement of intention by the dark side, no matter how destructive and disturbing, is only precipitating more conscious awareness and very present, personal involvement by humanity. It’s a thrilling time. If it weren’t for what we consider to be terrible and tragic events being perpetrated on humanity, our tidal wave of awakening would not have the momentum it has gathered and continues to gain.

I’m not saying to bring on the madness, but I am saying they can’t do anything against the truth, only for it. They can only rage against it and thus give themselves away to the very people they’ve tried so hard to put to sleep. The joke’s on them.

I had a thought tonight as I was watching the night clouds pass in front of the huge super moon. I was thinking how true inner happiness is not contingent on circumstances. It’s born of a deep spiritual knowledge of our eternal nature and its connectivity to our glorious multiverse. While we’ve been entrained to think happiness comes after something transpires as in “happy endings”, we are entitled to live in an ever present “happy now” way of life, despite the difficulties we pass through, even the eventuality of death from this life and the intended demise of our planet.

Zbigniew Brzezinski is a Democrat who served as America’s 10^th National Security Advisor from A.D. 1977 through A.D. 1981 under the Jimmy Carter administration.

It strikes me as unusual, odd, even disturbing that Brzezinski became our National Security Advisor in A.D. 1977 since he’d already published his book Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era in A.D. 1970.  Why?  Because in that book, he predicted and apparently advocated the control of populations by an elite political class via technetronic manipulation

According to Brzezinski,

“The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities.”

“In the technetronic society the trend would seem to be towards the aggregation of the individual support of millions of uncoordinated citizens, easily within the reach of magnetic and attractive personalities exploiting the latest communications techniques to manipulate emotions and control reason.”

More Than Half of Americans Want Fed Reined In or Abolished

A majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the nation’s independent central bank, saying the U.S. Federal Reserve should either be brought under tighter political control or abolished outright, a poll shows.

The Bloomberg National Poll underlines the extent to which the central bank’s standing has suffered as it has come under fire in Congress, first from Democrats for regulatory lapses before the financial crisis and then from Republicans for failing to revive an economy in which the jobless rate hovers near 10 percent. Voters from both parties have criticized the Fed’s $3.3 trillion in aid to the financial system.

“The Fed had to do extraordinary things to keep us from going into a great depression, and the public doesn’t see it this way,” said Lyle Gramley, a former Fed governor who is now senior adviser at Potomac Research Group in Washington. “The last time we had any really severe criticism of the Fed was in the early-1980s, when the Fed was pursuing this brutally tight policy to keep inflation under control.”

The survey, conducted Dec. 4-7, also shows deep skepticism, especially among Republicans, over the Fed’s Nov. 3 announcement that it would buy bonds in an attempt to bring down unemployment and prevent deflation. More than half say the purchases won’t help the economy.

The policy, known as quantitative easing, was the target of criticism in Washington and overseas. That prompted Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke to appear in an interview on CBS television’s “60 Minutes” program on Dec. 5 to defend his actions.

Across the Spectrum

Americans across the political spectrum say the Fed shouldn’t retain its current structure of independence. Asked if the central bank should be more accountable to Congress, left independent or abolished entirely, 39 percent said it should be held more accountable and 16 percent that it should be abolished. Only 37 percent favor the status quo.

In a previous poll, conducted Oct. 7-10, 35 percent of Americans said the Fed should be radically overhauled, while 8 percent said it should be abolished.

Republicans and independents are more likely to support ending the Fed, with 19 percent of independents, 16 percent of Republicans, and 12 percent of Democrats wanting to do away with the central bank. Among those who identify themselves as supporters of the Tea Party movement, which wants to rein in government, 21 percent want to abolish the Fed.

Dual Mandate

The Fed was founded in 1913. While Congress sets its mandate, politicians let it determine how to achieve those goals through monetary policy and allow it to resolve differences of opinion among its seven board members and 12 Reserve Bank presidents.

Republicans in Congress have taken aim at the Fed’s dual mandate to achieve both maximum employment and stable prices. Last month, two Republicans, Tennessee Senator Bob Corker and Indiana Representative Mike Pence, proposed removing the employment mandate to focus the Fed on stable prices. Corker plans to introduce legislation next year.

That legislation would amend the Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment Act of 1978, which created the Fed’s dual mandate.

Most members of Congress haven’t taken a hard look at the Fed in decades, said RepresentativePaul Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican in line to head the House Budget Committee. “They’re really beginning to wake up on this,” Ryan said in an interview.

Getting Politics ‘Out’

Pence, the outgoing chairman of the House Republican Conference, said his legislation doesn’t seek to abolish or politicize the Fed.

“Getting the Fed back to its original mission on price stability is precisely how we get politics out of monetary policy,” he said this week at a monetary policy forum in Washington.

Bernanke, 56, made his rare appearance on a nationally broadcast news program to explain his efforts to prop up a recovery so weak that only 39,000 jobs were created last month.

“We’re not very far from the level where the economy is not self-sustaining,” he said in the interview. “It’s very close to the border. It takes about 2.5 percent growth just to keep unemployment stable, and that’s about what we’re getting.” He said it’s possible the Fed will expand its bond purchases.
