This one is just too rich. The arrogance and absurdity is over the top.
Granted, most of the political class is already de facto above the law to begin with.
But now, a lawmaker in Oklahoma has introduced a bill to officially give most lawmakers, judges, appointees and holders of high office immunity from prosecution.
Guess what? In the first quarter of 2014, the homicide rate in Chicago dropped to thelowest we have seen in 56 years. Auto theft rates have dropped by 26% and burglaries are down by 20%.
Well, what do you know? Now that people can defend themselves in public, Chicago’s notorious crime rate has suddenly plummeted. It’s not rocket science. For some reason I doubt the cops are responsible for the sudden turnaround.
If I were you, I would worry about the militarization of the police, Piers.
Communities of people who look out for each other. Neighbors and friends who help each other out when someone has an emergency, be it a robbery or just a bad fall. Individuals who stand up for themselves and those they care about, rather than relying on a bureaucratic system to save them.
This is the vision of Peacekeeper. It’s an app, but it’s more than that. At its heart, Peacekeeper is about independence and personal empowerment.
The problem right now is that people are increasingly isolated from each other and reliant on system that either doesn’t serve them well or outright fails. There’s nothing wrong with calling 911, but relying exclusively on them is a mistake when the average emergency is over well before the centralized and bureaucratic system can send someone to help. More than that, though, relying on this sort of bureaucracy for salvation robs us of our independence.
It’s our opinion people are mostly benevolent: deep down, we have a gut instinct to care for those we’re close to. Suppressing that instinct in favor of one single solution without options doesn’t really speak to our nature or our humanity.
Peacekeeper aims to fix that.
Our vision is of tight-knit communities that look out for each other, and that embody three key values: protection, independence, and benevolence. We like to consider these our objectives as a company, and we hope the community chooses to adopt them as well.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. The History of Gun Control
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Let’s see how many defenseless people were exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control:
Country Year(s) People Exterminated USSR 1929-1953 20,000,000 Turkey 1915-1917 1,500,000 Germany 1939-1945 13,000,000 China 1948-1952 20,000,000 Guatemala 1964-1981 100,000 Uganda 1971-1979 300,000 Cambodia 1975-1977 1,000,000
Total: 56 million.
Governments around the World need a history lesson.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australian taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: 1) Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent. 2) Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent. 3) Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!) 4) In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.
Note, that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns! While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns.
You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are ‘citizens.’ Without them, we are ’subjects.’

Update: Rita Sklar, executive director ofACLU-Arkansas, said that aspects of ParagouldPolice Chief Todd Stovall'splan to have officers dressed in SWAT gear and armed with AR-15 assault rifles demanding ID from citizens in high crime areas shows that he has "zero understanding of Constitutional rights, period." Meanwhile, the Paragould PDissued a statement yesterday cancelling further town hall meetings on the proposal, citing "public safety" concerns after a growing backlash about the proposal. Paragould, Arkansas Mayor Mike Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall announced at a December 14 Town Hall meeting that beginning in 2013 the streets of their city were going to be patrolled by police officers bearing SWAT gear and AR-15s. “If you’re out walking, we’re going to stop you, ask why you’re out walking, and check for your ID.”
The move comes in response to a recent increase in violent crime. In a city with a population of only 26,113, Paragould had 86 rapes, robberies and assaults in 2010 and those numbers are expected to nearly double for 2012. Paragould currently has a City-Data crime index rating of 465.0, well above the national average of 309.3.
Property crime statistics in Paragould are even more alarming. While the national average for burglary, theft and auto theft is at 7 for every 1,000 people, the Paragould average is 20.14.
Police Chief Stovall told citizens attending the Town Hall meeting that he did not consult an attorney before making plans to institute what he considers martial law. He also announced that task force members could stop anyone they wanted to and didn’t even need to be looking for a specific suspect on the streets.
According to Stovall, any individual who does not produce identification could be charged with obstructing a governmental operation.
Deranged ex-federal employee Michael Page, a former Army psy-ops specialist, committed what has been variously described as a “hate crime” and an act of “domestic terrorism” by murdering six people gathered for worship at a Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Since the alleged murderer is dead, we can only speculate as to his motives (and those of his reported accomplices, as well).
Officer Ben Grant assaults innocent Sikh-American Kuldip Singh Nag, March, 2007
There is little room for speculation, however, regarding to attitudes and motives of a uniformed assailant who severely beat an innocent and helpless Sikh in an incident that took place five years ago about 112 miles south of Oak Creek. The perpetrator’s motive was to steal the victim’s property, and it there was no ambiguity about the fact that he despised the victim on the basis of his perceived ethnicity.
