New Call of Duty video game reveals villain as “leader of the 99%” in new trailer

Less than a year ago I wrote an article about pro war propaganda in video games which was sadly one of my most controversial articles for that whole month, despite the fact that I covered some very important topics during that time. Even if you doubted that the popular wartime first person shooters were propaganda before, you are going to have a hard time not being suspicious after hearing that the villain in the new game is described as the “leader of the 99%”.

It has become blatantly clear that a political message is being sent by the ruling class to the rest of us using these video games and other media. I'm not saying that there is something wrong with video games, we all need time to relax every now and then and if that’s how you decide to do it that is great. However, this specific series and others like it that glorify war and demonize activists are highly suspect and can now quite confidently be identified as outright propaganda.

Just this week a gaming website even compared the the villain to Julian Assange saying “The game’s main villain is Raul Menendez, described as the “idolized.

The Persecution of Juan Cole: Bush White House targeted Michigan professor

The revelation by Glenn Carle, a former CIA official, that the Bush White House sought information on Prof. Juan Cole, an academic and critic of the Iraq war, in order to discredit him is hardly shocking, at least to anyone of my generation. After all, I reached political consciousness during the administration ofRichard M. Nixon, whose hijinks – the Watergate break-in, the infamous COINTELPRO operation – are well known. Less well-known is the long history of police state tactics by previous administrations, running all the way back to FDRand Woodrow Wilson, two wartime presidents who set the pace for their successors.

Sure, now we have laws supposedly forbidding a repeat of history, and yet, existing right alongside these prohibitions, we have legislation like the PATRIOT Act, which empowers the feds to read our emails, monitor our political activities, and pretty much do what it pleases in the name of fighting our endless “war on terrorism.”

Vision: An Antiwar Movement That Puts Peace Over Politicians

Instead of continuing the hard work of protesting unjust wars, too many people took the election of politicians with "D"s after their name as their own Mission Accomplished.

After campaigning as the candidate of change, the man awarded a Nobel Prize for peace has given the world nothing but more war. Yet despite Barack Obama's continuation – nay, escalation – of the worst aspects of George W. Bush's foreign policy, including his very own illegal war in Libya, you’d be hard-pressed to find the large-scale protests and outrage from the liberal establishment that characterized his predecessor's reign (and only seems to pop up when a Republican's the one dropping the bombs).

That's not for a lack of things to protest. Since taking office, Obama has doubled the number of troops in Afghanistan and now looks set to break his pledge to begin a significant withdrawal in July. He has unilaterally committed the nation to an unapologetically illegal war in Libya and in two years has authorized more drone strikes in Pakistan than his predecessor authorized in two terms, with one in three of their victims reportedly civilians. In Yemen, he has targeted a U.S. citizen for assassination and approved a cluster bomb strike that, according to Amnesty International, killed 35 innocent women and children.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Officials in the George W. Bush administration may have tried to use the CIA to dig up information on an Iraq war critic in order to discredit him, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Glenn Carle, who served as a top counterterrorism official in the Central Intelligence Agency, told the Times that officials twice sought to investigate Juan Cole, a professor and widely read blogger.

Cole, a Middle East expert and history professor at the University of Michigan, was a strident critic of the Bush administration and the Iraq war, which he wrote about extensively on his "Informed Comment" blog.

DHS Should Focus on Criminal Activity, Not Beliefs

Last week, The Washington Post reported that for the last two years, the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) intelligence gathering and analysis unit devoted to rightwing groups and militias has been "effectively eviscerated," while reports on so-called Islamic extremism "got through without any major problems."

The article raises serious concerns about DHS's failure to address the real need for fact-based assessments of where threats to our security lie. An internal DHS study last year concluded that "a majority of the 86 major foiled and executed terrorist plots in the United States from 1999 to 2009 were unrelated to al-Qaeda and allied movements" (emphasis added) and warned, "Do not overlook other types of terrorist groups." (It doesn't get any clearer than that!)

Obama Successfully Demobilized the Anti-war Movement

It is more evidence the antiwar movement is largely a left-vs-right distraction. A new study by U-M’s Michael Heaney and colleague Fabio Rojas of Indiana University shows that the antiwar movement in the United States demobilized as Democrats took over Congress and the White House.

“As president, Obama has maintained the occupation of Iraq and escalated the war in Afghanistan,” said Heaney. “The antiwar movement should have been furious at Obama’s ‘betrayal’ and reinvigorated its protest activity.”

“Instead, attendance at antiwar rallies declined precipitously and financial resources available to the movement have dissipated. The election of Obama appeared to be a demobilizing force on the antiwar movement, even in the face of his pro-war decisions.”

Liberals March to War

“Humanitarian” interventionists salute their commander-in-chief

Justin Raimondo

Well, that didn’t take long.

Now that President Barack Obama has intervened in Libya, his army of apologists is mobilizing to defend his “humanitarianism,” declaring that his war isn’t at all like Bush’s wars. It’s something new, and different – and admirable.

I’m not at all surprised. Are you? The anti-interventionist veneer of most American liberals and assorted “progressives” peels off quite readily when a little “humanitarian” lotion is applied – especially if it’s poured on thick by a liberal Democratic President with a domestic agenda they can endorse.

Mother Jones magazine, to cite one exemplar of this chameleon-like transformation, is no stranger to cheerleading the dark side of Obama’s presidency. You’ll recall that the magazine launched a scurrilous attack on Julian Assange, in which the author compiled a lot of quotes from self-described “experts” to the effect that WikiLeaks suffers from a lack of “transparency” – to the US government, no less! – and, alternatively, is a CIA “front.” That didn’t sit too well with their readers, as a look at the comments appended to that article attests, but a shill for power’s gotta do what a shill is born to do, and that is “spin” every event to make the team –Team Obama, in this case – look good. And certainly David Corn is up to the task.

Why Are Wars Not Being Reported Honestly?

The public needs to know the truth about wars. So why have journalists colluded with governments to hoodwink us?

John Pilger
Global Research

In the US Army manual on counterinsurgency, the American commander General David Petraeusdescribes Afghanistan as a "war of perception . . . conducted continuously using the news media". What really matters is not so much the day-to-day battles against the Taliban as the way the adventure is sold in America where "the media directly influence the attitude of key audiences". Reading this, I was reminded of the Venezuelan general who led a coup against the democratic government in 2002. "We had a secret weapon," he boasted. "We had the media, especially TV. You got to have the media."

Never has so much official energy been expended in ensuring journalists collude with the makers of rapacious wars which, say the media-friendly generals, are now "perpetual". In echoing the west's more verbose warlords, such as the waterboarding former US vice-president Dick Cheney, who predicated "50 years of war", they plan a state of permanent conflict wholly dependent on keeping at bay an enemy whose name they dare not speak: the public.

At Chicksands in Bedfordshire, the Ministry of Defence's psychological warfare (Psyops) establishment, media trainers devote themselves to the task, immersed in a jargon world of "information dominance", "asymmetric threats" and "cyberthreats". They share premises with those who teach the interrogation methods that have led to a public inquiry into British military torture in Iraq. Disinformation and the barbarity of colonial war have much in common.

Of course, only the jargon is new. In the opening sequence of my film, The War You Don't See, there is reference to a pre-WikiLeaks private conversation in December 1917 between David Lloyd George, Britain's prime minister during much of the first world war, and CP Scott, editor of the Manchester Guardian. "If people really knew the truth," the prime minister said, "the war would be stopped tomorrow. But of course they don't know, and can't know."

In the wake of this "war to end all wars", Edward Bernays, a confidante of President Woodrow Wilson, coined the term "public relations" as a euphemism for propaganda "which was given a bad name in the war". In his book, Propaganda (1928), Bernays described PR as "an invisible government which is the true ruling power in our country" thanks to "the intelligent manipulation of the masses". This was achieved by "false realities" and their adoption by the media. (One of Bernays's early successes was persuading women to smoke in public. By associating smoking with women's liberation, he achieved headlines that lauded cigarettes as "torches of freedom".)

Peace Activist says organized anti-war groups are complicit in prolonging illegal wars and war crimes

Oracle Broadcasting

Phil Restino - Veterans For Peace Co-Chair for Florida’s Chapter 136, was a guest on Deadline Live with Jack Blood on Voting Day, Tuesday November 2, 2010 on the Oracle Broadcasting Radio Network.

Phil talked about the Central Florida chapter of Veterans For Peace resolution calling for the Impeachment of President Obama for war crimes committed under his command and authority ... the same war crimes that Veterans For Peace and the antiwar groups for years cited in our call for the Impeachment of President George W. Bush.  To access the Impeachment resolution, please go to this post from Gold Star Mother Cindy Sheehan who endorsed the resolution on 19 July 2010: http://cindysheehanssoapbox.blogspot.com/2010/07/impeach-obama-cindy-sheehan.html

Phil also revealed how more and more of us believe that the leadership of the national antiwar groups has actually prolonged the wars by doing all it can to keep the war a partisan issue by:

1) Establishing as policy, a double-standard in calls for accountability in regards to the Republican War Criminal in Chief George W. Bush and the Democrat War Criminal in Chief Barack H. Obama,

2) Focusing their respective flocks on differences with groups of Americans from the "right" concerning issues other than stopping the illegal wars, thus preventing any possibility of the the "left" coming together with the "right" in a truly bipartisan populist opposition to the illegal wars and a bipartisan populist demand to stop the wars and cease the occupations, and

3) the big reason that anyone with any common sense at all should be questioning ... and that is the organized antiwar movement's strange refusal to publicly question and strongly demand immediate investigations into the many, many holes in the government's own ridiculous theory explaining the conspiracy behind the 9/11 attacks  which to this very day is used as the sole reason for justifying the wars that the antiwar movement pretends to be trying to stop.

Phil says: “Anyone with at least one working eyeball and 2 live brain cells to rub together who takes just 5 minutes to examine the evidence will see that the holes in the government's story are big enough to drive WTC Building 7 itself through with room to spare !”

Antiwar Activists Refuse to Appear in Court

Simone de Beauvoir Institute

Chip Mitchell

Some Midwest antiwar activists say they’ll refuse a federal order to testify this month before a grand jury in Chicago.

The FBI served the subpoenas and raided several homes 11 days ago.

Attorney Jim Fennerty of Chicago is representing many of the activists. He says 14 have told the government they won’t appear. Now, he says, the ball is in the prosecutors’ court.
