JOHN PILGER — Flying the flag, faking the news

Loud noises from Washington about a US pull-out from Iraq are a poor disguise for America’s determination to keep waging war.  And the same sort of spin is at work here in Britain

Edward Bernays, the American nephew of Sigmund Freud, is said to have invented modern propaganda.  During the First World War, he was one of a group of influential liberals who mounted a secret government campaign to persuade reluctant Americans to send an army to the bloodbath in Europe.  In his book Propaganda, published in 1928, Bernays wrote that the “intelligent manipulation of the organised habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society”, and that the manipulators “constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power in our country”.  Instead of propaganda, he coined the euphemism “public relations”.
The American tobacco industry hired Bernays to convince women that they should smoke in public.  By associating smoking with women’s liberation, he made cigarettes “torches of freedom.”  In 1954, he conjured a communist menace in Guatemala as an excuse for overthrowing the democratically elected government, whose social reforms were threatening the United Fruit Company’s monopoly of the banana trade.  He called it a “liberation”.

Bernays was no rabid right-winger.  He was an elitist liberal who believed that “engineering public consent” was for the greater good.  This could be achieved by the creation of “false realities” which then became “news events”.  Here are examples of how it is done these days.

A "Peace and Truth" Leader Silenced

Charlie Love VeitchWas Charlie silenced by the G20 Security Apparatus?  In the first video, you will hear discussion about "plea deals" which allow arrested protesters at the G20 Summit in Toronto, Canada to go free without admitting any wrong doing.   In the second video you will hear from Charlie.

I think the "police state" in which we now live has exercised its power to silence a peaceful protester, a genuine leader in the "peace and truth" movement! This is a sad day.....

Charlie says g’bye to ‘The Love Police’

In a new video put out by Charlie Veitch a.k.a. The Love Police, he says goodbye to his satirical megaphoning ways. Will Charlie put down the megaphone forever? Will he be able to resist the urge of blasting Metropolitan cops with loving messages? We will all have to patiently wait and hope for his safe return, who knows maybe he’ll find another niche in expressing his comedic loving relief to a “movement” of such controversy and contradictions. Charlie it has been good, we wish you all the best! Cheers!

“The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.”
“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

Senate To Sneak Through Internet Kill Switch Bill

Senate To Sneak Through Internet Kill Switch Bill 260810top
The Senate is attempting to sneak through the infamous Internet kill switch cybersecurity bill by attaching it to another piece of legislation that is almost guaranteed to pass – the defense authorization bill – in an underhanded ploy to avoid the difficult task of passing cybersecurity on its own.
“It’s hard to get a measure like cybersecurity legislation passed on its own,” Democratic Senator Thomas Carper, who is co-chair of a Senate subcommittee with cybersecurity oversight, told Government Information Security.
That’s why lawmakers pushing cybersecurity have resolved to introduce the legislation as a “rider” to a Senate defense bill that is likely to be easily passed before the midterm elections.
Senators are still working to merge two different versions of the cybersecurity bill, one sponsored by Senator Joe Lieberman and another sponsored by Democrat Jay Rockefeller, into a single omnibus package, in preparation for a final vote when the Senate returns to session in mid-September.
“We’re very close to where we need to be in developing a joint proposal,” said Carper.
Lawmakers are in a race to pass cybersecurity before the midterms because if they wait until Congress returns after the November 2nd vote, the chances of getting the bill through “would significantly dim should the Republicans pick up a significant number of seats”. That leaves a four week window from the middle of September to the start of election campaigning for Senators to sneak through the legislation.
Lieberman’s version of the cybersecurity bill includes language that would hand President Obama the power to shut down parts of the world wide web for at least four months with no congressional oversight in the event of a cyber attack on critical infrastructure systems in the U.S.
Senators argue that they will be able to attach the Internet kill switch bill to the Defense Authorization Act because cybersecurity is a component of national security. However, the primary justifications behind treating “cybersecurity” as a national security matter are completely overblown and erroneous.
Proponents of cybersecurity have constantly argued that government needs to have more power over the Internet because cyber-terrorists could hack in and dismantle the entire U.S. power grid, large industrial plants, and the national water supply. This is a complete misnomer because, as a recent Wired News article highlighted, power grid and drinking water systems, “Are rarely connected directly to the public internet. And that makes gaining access to grid-controlling networks a challenge for all but the most dedicated, motivated and skilled — nation-states, in other words.”
As we documented in our piece on the issue, the threat from cyber-terrorists to the U.S. power grid or water supply is minimal. The perpetrators of an attack on such infrastructure would have to have direct physical access to the systems that operate these plants to cause any damage. Any perceived threat from the public Internet to these systems is therefore completely contrived and strips bare the real agenda behind cybersecurity – to enable the government to regulate free speech on the Internet.
This was revealed when Senator Lieberman told CNN’s Candy Crowley that the real motivation behind cybersecurity was to mimic the Communist Chinese system of Internet policing.
“Right now China, the government, can disconnect parts of its Internet in case of war and we need to have that here too,” said Lieberman.
As we have documented, the Communist Chinese government does not disconnect parts of the Internet because of genuine security concerns, it habitually does so only to oppress and silence victims of government abuse and atrocities, and to strangle dissent against the state.
The decision to try and sneak through the Internet kill switch bill as part of another package of legislation is undoubtedly a reaction to increasing awareness about how the terms of the bill would completely undermine the foundations of the Internet as an outlet of truly unregulated free speech.

Cameraman arrested for calling cops Nazis

Prisonplanet.com
Aug 24, 2010

Account from the Prisonplanet.com reader who was arrested
On Tuesday, August 17th 2010 at around 7:45pm I returned home to find one cop interrogating a woman who was apparently pulled over across from my driveway.
I got out my video camera to record the incident happening across the street from within my garage. I was leaning on the back of my car (in garage) to steady the picture and recorded for several minutes.  Two more patrol cars, now totaling three, had arrived.
The lady was standing outside her car, looking quite distressed at the situation.  Cops then begin to search her vehicle and then let her go.  One of the officers asked if I was “enjoying myself” from the road.  I told him “you are a Nazi”.  He cupped an ear like he couldn’t hear me, so I said it louder, “you’re a Nazi”.
One officer then pointed at me and said, “Arrest him for interfering”.  Even though their traffic stop was complete and the lady driver was back in her vehicle preparing to leave.  The cops were also preparing to leave when I spoke this.
Then he and his cohorts came up my driveway and into my garage.  I told them all to leave and that they were not welcome.  I repeated it several ways such as, “you are trespassing”, “leave my property”, etc…
One of three officers asked for my ID and I stated that I was on my property and had committed no crime.  He quickly became aggressive and intimidating… belligerently pointing “I am a cop.  Here is my badge.  Show me your ID, NOW!”
I asked what he would do if I refused and he said I would be arrested.  I then produced my ID and continued to request they leave my property, assuring them I had no warrants and clean history.
The second officer went to his vehicle and upon his return barked that he would arrest me with “hate crime” or “racial slur” for calling him a Nazi.  I pointed out that Nazi was a political party, not a race.
After calling in my credentials, Ptl. Ben Runnels told me to put my hands behind my back.  I asked, “Am I being detained?”.  Ben replied, “Put your hands behind you back.”  I asked if I was being arrested and if so what charge.  He said, “Yes, disorderly conduct”
I put my hands behind my back and turned around.  Ben took the camera haphazardly and bound my hands.
After marching me down the driveway next to their vehicles, all three began sifting through my pockets and locking the cuffs.  The camera was turned off sometime around here.
I asked them to let me close the garage and they said, “no, we’ll close it when we’re done here”.
The lady who was originally pulled over had then turned around back towards Airport Rd. (was facing away) and stopped next to the shake down taking place near where she was originally pulled over.  She rolled her window down calmly said, “thank you” several times.  After she departed, the cops laughed and said she was thanking the “tree” behind us.
They collected the possessions on my person and put me in their paddy wagon.
Next all three officers went back into my garage, rummaged through my car and found my dog Ike in the back seat.  Ike happily jumped out and pee’d on the grass while the enforcers pointed tasers at him.  Then one of the cops discovered the leash from the back seat of my car and put it around his neck, then lead him inside without entering himself.
Next, while I was watching from caged patrol card, they rummaged in the front seat and found one of my many legal firearms.  This was all done with the excuse of trying to find the garage door button or opener.  The button to the garage door was on the wall, directly behind him but they decided to violate my 4th amendment after kidnapping me for exercising my 1st.
I was informed after they found the garage door opener and closing the door that I would now be charged with “felon in possession of a firearm”.  I said, “who’s a felon?” and they shut the door and took me to jail.
Since I was charged with a felony, court appearance would be required to issue a bond.  This meant I needed to stay in the felony side of jail with rapists, pedophiles, and others until the next court date.  The man I was locked in a small cell came onto me several times and was completely insane.
The next afternoon was court.  Upon arriving I was informed the felony gun charge would not be pursued, but the misdemeanor of Disorderly Conduct would stick.  They are keeping my camera which contains the evidence of their violations of my rights by suggesting it evidence of my “disorder” charge.
Luckily I was booked on Tuesday, since court is only on Wednesday.  Had it been Thursday, I would be locked into the cell for an entire week… all for a bogus charge that was dropped.
Immediately after being released on misdemeanor bond and having spend nearly 24 hours in felony jail, the firearm was returned to my possession.

Divide and Rule

by Mark Daniels

Webster Tarpleyauthor, journalist, lecturer, and critic of US foreign and domestic policy, appeared on the Alex Jones radio show today and discussed the wedge issues currently exploited in the "corporate media" to divide the American people in order for the Global Power Structure to maintain control.  The concept of "divide and rule" as a means to control the people is not a new idea.

According to Wikipedia, "divide and rule (derived from Latin divide et impera) (also known as divide and conquer) is a combination of politicalmilitary and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. In reality, it often refers to a strategy where small power groups are prevented from linking up and becoming more powerful, since it is difficult to break up existing power structures".  It is said that the British used the strategy to gain control of the large territory of India by keeping its people divided along lines of religion, language, or caste, taking control of petty princely states in India piecemeal.

The use of this technique is meant to empower the sovereign to control subjects, populations, or factions of different interests, who collectively might be able to oppose his rule. Machiavelli identifies a similar application to military strategy, advising in Book VI of The Art of War [3] (Dell'arte della guerra [4]), that a Captain should endeavor with every art to divide the forces of the enemy, either by making him suspicious of his men in whom he trusted, or by giving him cause that he has to separate his forces, and, because of this, become weaker.

Of course, Wikipedia's descriptions focus primarily on the use of "divide and rule" by a sovereign ruler or nation.  Today, we are facing a much more sinister oppressor in the form of Global Government; the long sought after establishment of a Global Scientific Dictatorship by a very few extremely powerful and wealthy families.

The use of "wedge issues" are frequently employed  in order to gain a foothold politically which allows a political entity to implement otherwise unacceptable policies. wedge issue is a social or political issue, often of a divisive or otherwise controversial nature, which splits apart or creates a "wedge" in the support base of one political group. Wedge issues can be advertised, publicly aired, and otherwise emphasized by an opposing political group, in an attempt to weaken the unity of the divided group, or to entice voters in the divided group to give their support to the opposing group. The use of wedge issues gives rise to wedge politics.

In a recent article, Wedge Issues Divide Politicians from Independents, Ed Hornick (CNN) reports:

The current ruckus over building an Islamic center and mosque near ground zero, calls to change the 14th Amendment and other so-called "wedge" issues are roiling up each party's base, but they're turning off independents, analysts say.

The article goes on to report that Jacqueline Salit, president of independentvoting.org, a national strategy and organizing center for independents says

"I think there's more and more of a steady recognition that these kind of wedge issues and political manipulation, sensationalism and opportunism is exactly what is degrading the American political process and our democracy."

What we are witnessing in America today with the Ground Zero Mosque, Shirley Sherrod, Immigration, Same Sex Marriage, etc. is a deliberate modern day attempt by the Global Elites to, at minimum, divert attention away from the global economic crises and the criminal activities of Wall Street, the "Federal Reserve" and more specifically, the Central Banking Cartel.

Upon examining the financial backing for the Ground Zero Mosque, for example, we find the Council on Foreign Relations and Fox News as major contributors. (see Steve Watson's recent article, Ground Zero Mosque Imam is Globalist Stooge and Today on the Alex Jones Show featuring Webster Tarpley)

The constant barrage of propaganda streaming out of the corporate media is nothing more than a veiled attempt to divide the people into factions while the "False Dichotomy" of the Republicans and Democrats offer "solutions" that only serve to inflame an already manic display of bigotry and hatred.  Does the two-party system really offer the people a choice? No.  They are currently controlled by the Global Elites who are financing their campaigns and directing their policies.

What has either party done in recent history to help the people of this country?  Nothing....Absolutely Nothing! That is, nothing positive.  They have managed to usher in a era of global economic collapse, racial, ethnic, and socio-economic division; and the destruction of civil liberties.

I would also argue that the deliberate division of the populace along the aforementioned lines, allows the advancement of the police state; with increased unrest, we are very likely to see riots and violence which will allow the Global Elites to fully implement military rule in America, thus leading us to the "perceived need" for Global Government.

We can only pray for their ultimate failure and demise while also refusing to contribute to the social, political, religious, and economic "unrest" which they seek to foment.  Does this mean that you should do nothing?  On the contrary, do more...examine the new slate of leaders who are presenting the truth about the "Establishment", share the "truth" with your family, friends, and neighbors; Most importantly, educate yourself about the issues that matter.

It is time to Wake Up!  You too, can join the "Global Political Awakening"!

WikiLeaks Founder No Longer Wanted for Rape

Swedish police said Saturday that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was "no longer wanted" for rape, reversing its position just hours after saying his arrest was being sought.
Reuters
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in Stockholm last week.
In an update on the Web site of the Swedish Prosecution Authority, the agency said that "chief prosector Eva Finné has come to the decision that Julian Assange is not suspected of rape."
Mr. Assange said in a posting on the WikiLeaks Twitter account in response to the initial allegation: "The charges are without basis and their issue at this moment is deeply disturbing."
WikiLeaks last month published 76,000 classified U.S. military documents about the war in Afghanistan. Mr. Assange, an Australian, has been in Sweden in recent days, where WikiLeaks has some infrastructure.
The Pentagon has sharply criticized Mr. Assange for publishing the documents, saying it could put the lives of solidiers and Afghan civilians at risk. Mr. Assange has said he planned to publish up to 15,000 more documents about the war soon. He defends the publications, saying greater transparency is needed about civilian casualties, U.S. military tactics and other issues.
In a statement posted on the WikiLeaks site, the organization said: "On Saturday 21st of August, we have been made aware of rape allegations made against Julian Assange, founder of this project and one of our spokespeople. We are deeply concerned about the seriousness of these allegations. We the people behind WikiLeaks think highly of Julian and and he has our full support. While Julian is focusing on his defenses and clearing his name, WikiLeaks will be continuing its regular operations."
In an earlier Twitter posting, WikiLeaks said it had been warned to expect "dirty tricks."

Logical Fallacies: Democracy In Action

Let’s say we are at an electronics store to buy a television.  A sales associate comes up and asks us what we want. We proceed to tell her that we are interested in buying a TV. She tells us about the two brands they offer: Brand A and Brand B. The sales associate then asks, “So, are you going to buy Brand A?” We tell her we are not interested in Brand A. In response, the sales associate rings us up for Brand B. In this example, the sales associate has commuted the false dilemma fallacy.

In their textbookCritical Thinking, Moore and Parker say, “the false dilemma fallacy occurs when you limit considerations to only two alternatives although other alternatives may be available.” In our example, the sales associate limited her considerations to us either buying Brand A or Brand B; however, there are many other alternatives, such as going to another electronics store with more variety or deciding we no longer want to purchase a TV.
A practical, and less pedagogical, example of a false dilemma is offered by United State politics. Today, most political analysts, politicians, and voters in the United States only recognize two parties and, generally, two points of view: Republican or Democrat. In this realm we are continually offered false dilemmas and false dichotomies. You are either a Republican or a Democrat, and with that classification you are given a specific political viewpoint and specific policies you are supposed to endorse. For example, in the 2008 Presidential Election you were either for Obama, and hope and change; or you were for McCain, and Bush, the war on terror, and the status quo. But really, there were many other options like Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr, Brian Moore, and Chuck Baldwin. So, by only considering Obama and McCain in the 2008 Presidential Election, we were limiting our considerations when many other alternatives existed. In other words, we were guilty of creating a false dilemma: either Obama or McCain. An example of another false dilemma would be: either vote for Obama or McCain, or contribute to the spoiler effect.
What will you do? "Choose" from the fallacious dichotomy of the Republicans and Democrats? Or, will you embrace "real" change for America?

Desperate Establishment’s Latest Rand Paul Hoax Backfires

Establishments Latest Desperate Rand Paul Hoax Explodes In Their Face 130810top2
The latest media hoax targeting Kentucky primary winner Rand Paul has exploded in the establishment’s face after a claim that Paul “kidnapped” a woman during a college prank was revealed to be completely mischaracterized, showing once again how desperate the system is to discredit Paul and prevent him from leading a populist revolt against the status quo.
The corporate media has now launched no less than three hyped or outright manufactured “controversies” in an effort to tear down Paul’s popularity in the less than three months since he won the Kentucky primary. The system is scared stiff of what Paul represents because he is a true constitutionalist with a real chance of winning in October after having brushed aside establishment Republican candidate Trey Grayson back in May.
On the very night of his primary success, the media kicked into high gear and instantly tried to characterize Paul as a hypocrite and a racist elitist simply because he held his victory celebration at a country club.
When this attempt to smear Paul fell flat on its face, the Civil Rights sideshow was ramped up, with MSNBC airing eight different segments totaling 37 minutes with every single guest attacking Rand Paul as a closet racist who wanted to repeal the Civil Rights Act, something which he never said. Indeed, although Paul expressed a nuanced view on the Civil Rights Act, he made it clear that he would not vote to repeal it. This didn’t stop Rachel Maddow and MSNBC from publishing an out of context script in a crass stunt to make it appear as if Paul had answered “yes” to Maddow’s question about whether businesses should have the right not to serve black people.
But with Paul still maintaining a healthy lead over his Democratic rival Jack Conway, the establishment was forced to launch its third absurd smear attack in as many months, by manufacturing a national controversy out of the claims of an anonymous woman who talked to GQ Magazine about a college prank Paul was involved in 30 years ago, alleging that Paul had “kidnapped” the woman and forced her to take drugs.
The hoax was unraveled when the woman later admitted to the Washington Post that she was not kidnapped, she was not forced drugged, and that “the whole thing has been blown out of proportion” because she willingly went along with the prank, which on the face of it is mild tomfoolery when measured against similar college hazing pranks performed today.
“That characterization of events supports Paul’s claim that, as he told Fox News yesterday, “No, I never was involved with kidnapping. No, I never was involved with forcibly drugging people,” concedes the Post.
“It is satisfying to see the libelous and grossly irresponsible charges of kidnapping completely shot down,” Paul campaign spokesman Jesse Benton told the Post. “It remains puzzling to us why the drive-by media continues to focus on an alleged 30 year old teenage prank when our nation faces high unemployment, a thirteen trillion dollar debt and are threatened with a Cap and Trade national energy tax.”
But that’s not good enough for the Washington Post, who, with the “kidnap” hoax now firmly distinguished, still insist that Paul jokingly telling a college friend 30 years ago to “worship the Aqua Buddha,” is an issue of national importance, even as America enters a third great depression.
Perhaps if rather than engaging in such an apparently horrendous prank as asking someone to smoke pot, Paul had instead lied naked in a coffin masterbating while kissing skulls and screaming as people like George W. Bush and John Kerry did at Yale for their Skull and Bones initiation, then the mainstream media wouldn’t have made such a big deal out of it.
Barely a week goes by within which Tea Party candidates, their supporters, or conservative media outlets are not the target of a manufactured smear, an attempted set-up, or another fabricated hoax, enthusiastically peddled by the corporate media ad infinitum.
This latest Rand Paul hoax arrives on the back of Obama campaign volunteer and long term Democratic operative Tyler Collins attempting to portray Paul’s supporters as racists by dressing up in a tin-foil hat and adopting a slack-jawed accent while carrying signs opposing illegal immigration.
The provocateur was caught out by an attendee at the Fancy Farm political celebration in Kentucky who claimed he saw the man speaking with supporters and campaign officials of Paul’s opponent for the Kentucky Senate, Jack Conway, shortly before making his way into the crowds. Collins was later seen marching with fellow Conway supporters.
The Louisville Courier Journal even used footage of the man, portraying him as a legitimate Rand Paul supporter, in a video report about the event.
Another hoax revolved around what is one of the biggest platforms for anti-establishment candidates, the Drudge Report website, which back in March was falsely accused by Senate Democrats of serving malware viruses to its visitors, which in fact were coming from third party ad scripts. The New York Times and many other websites have inadvertently infected visitors with Malware viruses, but Democrats in the Senate seemed only interested in linking the viruses to Drudge in an effort to prevent people from visiting the website.
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R.-Okla.), dismissed the flap as an overhyped ploy to stop Senate staff from reading Drudge, “Because Drudge comes out with really good stuff and we want them to access the Drudge Report. We’re on the Drudge Report about half the time.”
Given the establishment left’s ceaseless attempts to frame Tea Party activists, and particularly Rand Paul, who is seen by many as the true voice of the Tea Party, expect to see many more dirty tricks and brazen hoaxes pulled before the midterm elections.
The corporate media has proven itself to be morally bankrupt in vigorously peddling hoax after hoax in an attempt to shoot down Ron Paul’s campaign. They are doing so not because any of the manufactured controversies hold any merit or importance, but because Paul’s grass roots candidacy represents a fundamental threat to the status quo in Washington.
Paul needs to file libel and slander lawsuits to send a message that more hoaxes, stunts, and set-ups will not be tolerated.
In the interests of time-saving, we’ve gone to the trouble of offering a selection of controversies which we made up out of thin air that the establishment can select from next time they attempt to smear Rand Paul.
- Rand Paul was the gunman behind the grassy knoll who shot JFK.
- Rand Paul convinced LeBron James to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- Rand Paul was responsible for blowing up the BP oil well.
- Rand Paul, and not Yoko Ono, caused the Beatles to break up.
- Rand Paul is an 18 million year old space reptoid from the planet pop tart.
Although some of the above facts may sound a little far fetched, we were assured that they were true by an “anonymous source,” so we are now going to seriously debate how this will affect Paul’s Senatorial campaign for a good week or two, before quietly admitting that it’s all nonsense – but only after the mud has stuck of course.

Kentucky Dem Operative Busted Trying to Discredit Rand Paul

Kentucky Dem Operative Busted Trying to Discredit Rand Paul

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars.com
August 9, 2010
The establishment is petrified over the prospect of a Rand Paul win in Kentucky. In order to discredit Paul and make his supporters look like mental patients and racists, a Democrat by the name of Tyler Clay Collins showed up at Fancy Farm, Kentucky, where a political rally was held and engaged in a brazen attempt to smear Paul.
Time describes the Fancy Farm as an event “where old-fashioned politics meets dyed-in-the-wool religion, and the differences are evened out by the glorious, gluttonous, gastronomic magic of charred pork and mutton.”
The Jay’s Analysis blog posted a video of the Dem miscreant today:
Mr. Collins, as the video above reveals, is a Jack Conway supporter, a fact demonstrated on hisFacebook page.
Paul’s Democratic opponent in the Kentucky Senate race has desperatelyamplified the corporate media fabrication that Paul opposes the Civil Rights Act.
“By far the most ridiculous, conniving and abhorrent political attack, however, was put together by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, who set aside a 20 minute segment of her show to attempt to convince her viewers that Rand Paul was in favor of racial segregation, as if he is some kind of klan member,” Steve Watson wrote in May.
Finally, in a rather bizarre attempt to shoot down the Paul campaign, GQ has posted an article by Jason Zengerle with a claim by a woman who said Paul had kidnapped her and tried to force her to take “bong hits.”

The Internet on Balance: Oppressor or Liberator?

The Internet on Balance: Oppressor or Liberator?

By HEATHER HORN

All told, is the Internet "a tool for political liberation or for political oppression"? Last month, The Atlantic's James Fallows hosted a panel discussion on this question for the New America Foundation, and has now posted video of the event. Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Alec Ross of the State Department, and Timothy Wu from Columbia Law School debate the subject.

Schmidt believes that, on balance, "the Internet is the strongest force for individual empowerment and therefore for freedom that has yet been invented." Wu points out the chilling example of radio "completely becoming the tool of tyranny and dictatorship" in Germany and the Soviet Union. "The Internet's doing better than radio so far," he concludes, looking at the timelines of the two technologies. Have a look at the rest of the discussion:
