Spirit of Rebellion – Rebellion of the Spirit

Julian Rose

Over the past ten years it has been my calling to help the Polish Countryside, its small farmers and the good citizens of this nation, to stand up against the determination of corporate agrichemical and genetic engineering giants to move in and transform this relatively unspoiled land into a vast experimental toxic laboratory.

Working alongside my Polish partner, Jadwiga Lopata, I was able to draw directly upon previous experience in coming up with a plan to combat the David-v-Goliath battle that confronted us. A battle not simply confined to the predatory corporations, but also a complicit government and a generally unaware public.

As a practising organic farmer at a time when abandoning chemicals in favour of compost was regarded as a deeply regressive and foolish act, I had become accustomed to being shot at by posturing agricultural scientists, pharmaceutical fanatics and government lackeys in the pocket of their corporate masters.

Where Is The Line For Revolution?

Brandon Smith, Contributor
Activist Post

The subject of revolution is a touchy one.  It’s not a word that should be thrown around lightly, and when it is uttered at all, it elicits a chaotic jumble of opinions and debates from know-it-alls the world over.  The “R” word has been persona non grata for quite some time in America, and until recently, was met with jeers and knee-jerk belligerence.

However, let’s face it; today, the idea is not so far fetched.  We have a global banking system that is feeding like a tapeworm in the stagnant guts of our economy.  We suffer an election system so fraudulent BOTH sides of the political spectrum now represent a hyper-rich minority while the rest of us are simply expected to play along and enjoy the illusion of choice.  We have a judicial body that has gone out of its way to whittle down our civil liberties and to marginalize our Constitution as some kind of “outdated relic”.  We have an executive branch that issues special orders like monarchical edicts every month, each new order even more invasive and oppressive than the last.  And, we have an establishment system that now believes it has the right to surveil the citizenry en masse and on the slightest whim without any consideration for 4th Amendment protections.

New Call of Duty video game reveals villain as “leader of the 99%” in new trailer

Less than a year ago I wrote an article about pro war propaganda in video games which was sadly one of my most controversial articles for that whole month, despite the fact that I covered some very important topics during that time. Even if you doubted that the popular wartime first person shooters were propaganda before, you are going to have a hard time not being suspicious after hearing that the villain in the new game is described as the “leader of the 99%”.

It has become blatantly clear that a political message is being sent by the ruling class to the rest of us using these video games and other media. I'm not saying that there is something wrong with video games, we all need time to relax every now and then and if that’s how you decide to do it that is great. However, this specific series and others like it that glorify war and demonize activists are highly suspect and can now quite confidently be identified as outright propaganda.

Just this week a gaming website even compared the the villain to Julian Assange saying “The game’s main villain is Raul Menendez, described as the “idolized.

Empower Yourself to Fight the Power

Global Research

The enemies of truth, freedom, and justice are highly mobilized, well funded, and efficiently organized.

The institutional structures of power, whether local, national or global, are effective mechanisms through which the ruling groups of society establish and entrench their influence, build consensus among each other, brainwash and expand their control over the masses and society as a whole. Whether they take the form of think tanks, universities, governments, corporations, militaries, intelligence agencies, NGOs, media conglomerates, international organizations, philanthropic foundations, they are institutions of control and conquest.

Whether that conquest is ideological or physical, the effect is the same: the conquered are oppressed and repressed.

This Spanish Spring is the Real Thing

It was perhaps inevitable given its long associations with, and geographical proximity to the Maghreb, that Spain should be the first European country to be swept up by the wave known as the “Arab Spring”. Protests have been raging across the country since May 15th, and like previous rumblings in Greece, this Spanish Spring will likely send a new shockwave through the EU.

Indeed, a wave of discontent has arrived this month in Spain. People tend to forget that Spain had its own oppressive dictator, the 30′s Fascist survivor who steered clear of Hitler’s madness and instead ground down and impoverished his people with years of economic stagnation until the late 1970′s – El Caudillo himself, the Generalissimo Franco.

Arab Spring + European Summer = World Winter of Discontent

KINGSTON, NY, 25 May 2011 — The biggest news this past week was not the rape accusation scandal embroiling International Monetary Fund chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. It was not President Barack Obama’s much ballyhooed Middle East speech, nor was it the historic floods devastating the Mississippi flood plain.

But these were the stories that preoccupied the US press. Whereas all were certainly newsworthy – and a cut above the usual obsession with the purely titillating and violent – the most trend-significant story of all got scant, or no coverage from the mainstream media.

While the downfall of Strauss-Kahn shattered his hopes to run for the French Presidency, the repercussions would be mainly confined to France. His resignation from the IMF, however, would have limited consequences. A new chief will quickly be found to replace him, and regardless of the Strauss-Kahn rape verdict, the IMF will continue raping countries that are forced into accepting their “aid.”

Fighting grips Yemeni capital as Saleh orders arrests

SANAA (AFP) - Security forces in the Yemeni capital battled heavily armed supporters of the country's most powerful tribal leader on Thursday as President Ali Abdullah Saleh ordered the tribesman's arrest.

The leader, Sheikh Sadiq al-Ahmar, in turn accused Saleh of dragging the country into civil war, speaking after hours of clashes late Wednesday and overnight in which at least 24 people were killed.

Meanwhile a website linked to the defence ministry said 28 more people died when an explosion ripped through an ammunition plant belonging to the al-Ahmar tribal opposition.

This could not be immediately confirmed independently.

10 Steps to Defeat the Corporatocracy

The only way to overcome the power of money is regain our courage and solidarity. Here's how to do that.

Bruce E. Levine
AlterNet

Many Americans know that the United States is not a democracy but a "corporatocracy," in which we are ruled by a partnership of giant corporations, the extremely wealthy elite and corporate-collaborator government officials. However, the truth of such tyranny is not enough to set most of us free to take action. Too many of us have become pacified by corporatocracy-created institutions and culture.

Some activists insist that this political passivity problem is caused by Americans' ignorance due to corporate media propaganda, and others claim that political passivity is caused by the inability to organize due to a lack of money. However, polls show that on the important issues of our day - from senseless wars, to Wall Street bailouts, to corporate tax-dodging, to health insurance rip-offs - the majority of Americans are not ignorant to the reality that they are being screwed. And American history is replete with organizational examples - from the Underground Railroad, to the Great Populist Revolt, to the Flint sit-down strike, to large wildcat strikes a generation ago - of successful rebels who had little money but lots of guts and solidarity.

Spanish protesters cheer for ‘world revolution’ as ban on demonstration takes effect

MADRID — Thousands of protesters in Madrid furious over soaring unemployment staged a silent protest and then erupted in cheers of joy as a 48-hour ban on their demonstration took effect on Saturday.

"Now we are all illegal" and "the people united will never be defeated," were among the chants of the protesters who crammed Madrid's Puerta del Sol square and spilled onto side streets.

The protesters held a minute's silence, their hands in the air and some with tape over their mouths, just before midnight on Friday, when campaigning officially ended for Sunday's regional and municipal elections.

The crowd then cheered as the clock in the square, the main site of New Year festivities in Madrid, chimed midnight and a ban on the protest became effective.

"From Tahrir to Madrid to the world, world revolution," said one of the placards, referring to Tahrir Square in Cairo which was the focal point of the Egyptian revolution earlier this year.

The Spanish are Rising (Video)

Thousands have taken to the streets this week in Spain to protest against corruption, precariousness, unemployment, and a political structure that favors a two-party system. “We’re not merchandise in the hands of bankers and politicians,” was the motto of tens of thousands who demonstrated all over the country on May 15, a few days before the upcoming regional elections.

It did not stop there. The demonstrations were followed by a peaceful sit-in on May 16, with hundreds camping at Madrid’s main square, la “Puerta del Sol.” The movement, mainly coordinated by the youth organization Democracia Real Ya [es], has been extremely active online.

Do Psychopaths Misrule Our World?

Examining these financial terrorists, you might well conclude that the conspiracy theory about shape-shifting lizards who secretly rule the world isn’t so far off. After all, psychopaths are often social shape-shifters.

Greg Cuma
Maverick Media

In recent days the political news has been like an episode of some TV drama about high-level corruption – call it Criminal Minds meets The West Wing. The head of the International Monetary Fund – the global financial organization that sets terms for development aid -- was jailed in New York for allegedly assaulting a housemaid sexually at his hotel. Meanwhile, in California news broke that the state’s movie-star governor – known as both the Terminator and the Gropinator – fathered a love-child almost a decade ago and it didn’t come out until he was about to leave office.

Then, of course, there’s the presidential campaign of Newt Gingrich, a poster child for bad behavior, launched last week with a series of disastrous missteps and rationalizations.

What the three men have in common, aside from wielding more influence than they can handle or deserve, is that their serial misbehavior went unchecked for years. In fact, it was rationalized as mere exuberance, frequently excused in “exceptional” people, when it actually demonstrated something else – ruling class impunity.

The American Hate Machine (Video)

Youtube

Robert Wanek is an educational activist who specializes in any form of activism stretching from school corruption to political parties and how they operate. Hopefully this video serves as a reminder that you may be right, but many people have no heart to base their own opinion so you will receive hate no matter what your beliefs may be. Stand strong, don't let anyone tell you why you are doing what you do. Only you know your true motivation for action, as long as you hold your morals close and beliefs in your heart nobody can stop you from spreading the truth.

Inspired by Joe Rogan's 'The American War Machine' and posted in response to Wanek's recent criticism in his local community after being arrested while standing on a public street filming a police officer.  .

Quote of the Day: We Ain't Got Time To Bleed (Jesse Ventura)

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...
Activist Post

"You control our world. You’ve poisoned the air we breathe, contaminated the water we drink, and copyrighted the food we eat. We fight in your wars, die for your causes, and sacrifice our freedoms to protect you. You’ve liquidated our savings, destroyed our middle class, and used our tax dollars to bailout your unending greed. We are slaves to your corporations, zombies to your airwaves, servants to your decadence. You’ve stolen our elections, assassinated our leaders, and abolished our basic rights as human beings. You own our property, shipped away our jobs, and shredded our unions. You’ve profited off of disaster, destabilized our currencies, and raised our cost of living. You’ve monopolized our freedom, stripped away our education, and have almost extinguished our flame. We are hit… we are bleeding… but we ain’t got time to bleed. We will bring the giants to their knees and you will witness our revolution!" -- Jesse Ventura

Top 5 Ways to Find Sanity in a Shifting World

Every sensitive person I know right now is getting rocked, like punched in the face left-right down-for-the-count rocked. I’m even meeting people, who don’t consider themselves to be ‘sensitive,’ who look back on the past couple of weeks or months and say, “Hm, yes, it’s been rough, come to think of it I’ve felt pretty smacked around.” If you feel alone in this, know that you are not. If you are caught up thinking that this is all your energy to shoulder and process, consider that it is not.

We all know: our beloved Earth is re-balancing in awe-inspiring and disastrous ways, governments are being toppled and reformed, countries attacked and occupied. Everywhere we look we experience destruction and rebirth: we witness devastation and hope in alternate breaths.

As we walk our path, we hum along with our palette of introspective work and off-the-mat yoga. We’ve all got the stresses, challenges, and thrills of our work in the world, our relationships, our bills. Dammit, we are always looking at ourselves, and happy to be doing so! Recently, however, life has just felt harder to live, maybe less hopeful, more toxic. Less easy, more smackdown.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States applauded the courage and dignity of demonstrators in Syria, renewing its frequent condemnations of political violence, which killed another nine people on Friday.

"We condemn and deplore the use of violence against citizens demonstrating in Syria, and applaud the courage and dignity of the Syrian people," White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement.

"We urge all parties to maintain calm and avoid violence, and call on the Syrian government to respect human rights and to allow for peaceful demonstrations."

Following President Bashar al-Assad's speech this week, which disappointed reform campaigners, Carney said the Syrian government had an opportunity to respond to the legitimate aspirations of its people.

‘US orders media silence over Bahrain’

President of Bahrain’s Center for Human Rights Nabeel Rajab says the US media have been ordered not to cover news on the government’s brutal crackdown on Bahraini people.

Reports from the Center’s colleagues in the United States say “In the US some news agencies and TV stations were asked not to report on Bahrain and not to embarrass [President Barack Obama’s administration,” Rajab told Press TV.

He went on to say that the US and the Western governments have chosen to keep silent over ongoing atrocities in Bahrain due to their support for the country’s authoritarian regime.

US lawmakers urge support for Syrian opposition

Editor's Note NEXT!

AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President Barack Obama should abandon his policy of engaging Syria and stand foursquare behind opposition to the government of President Bashar al-Assad, lawmakers urged Wednesday.

Republican Senator John McCain and Independent Senator Joe Lieberman said Obama's effort to engage rather than shun Damascus had "little to show for it" and declared it was time to back protesters against Assad's rule.

"A new Syria strategy is now needed -- one that aligns the United States with the legitimate demands and aspirations of the Syrian people for their future," said the senators.

Thousands of Bulgarians have held an anti-government protest in the capital, Sofia, to demand the resignation of the right-wing government.

The protest was called for by the social-democratic Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and held in Sofia's Alexander Batenberg square, Bulgarian Focus News Agency reported.

The protest comes less than two weeks after massive rallies in the country against a sharp increase in fuel, electricity and food prices.

Reports put the number of Saturday's protesters between 4,000 and 16,000 people.

'Spring of discontent'

Protesters voiced their anger at the government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov for failing to live up to its pre-election promises of improving living standards and restructuring the pension and healthcare systems.
