Empower Yourself to Fight the Power
Global Research
The enemies of truth, freedom, and justice are highly mobilized, well funded, and efficiently organized.
The institutional structures of power, whether local, national or global, are effective mechanisms through which the ruling groups of society establish and entrench their influence, build consensus among each other, brainwash and expand their control over the masses and society as a whole. Whether they take the form of think tanks, universities, governments, corporations, militaries, intelligence agencies, NGOs, media conglomerates, international organizations, philanthropic foundations, they are institutions of control and conquest.
Whether that conquest is ideological or physical, the effect is the same: the conquered are oppressed and repressed.

Trends Journal
KINGSTON, NY, 25 May 2011 — The biggest news this past week was not the rape accusation scandal embroiling International Monetary Fund chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. It was not President Barack Obama’s much ballyhooed Middle East speech, nor was it the historic floods devastating the Mississippi flood plain.
But these were the stories that preoccupied the US press. Whereas all were certainly newsworthy – and a cut above the usual obsession with the purely titillating and violent – the most trend-significant story of all got scant, or no coverage from the mainstream media.
While the downfall of Strauss-Kahn shattered his hopes to run for the French Presidency, the repercussions would be mainly confined to France. His resignation from the IMF, however, would have limited consequences. A new chief will quickly be found to replace him, and regardless of the Strauss-Kahn rape verdict, the IMF will continue raping countries that are forced into accepting their “aid.”

SANAA (AFP) - Security forces in the Yemeni capital battled heavily armed supporters of the country's most powerful tribal leader on Thursday as President Ali Abdullah Saleh ordered the tribesman's arrest.
The leader, Sheikh Sadiq al-Ahmar, in turn accused Saleh of dragging the country into civil war, speaking after hours of clashes late Wednesday and overnight in which at least 24 people were killed.
Meanwhile a website linked to the defence ministry said 28 more people died when an explosion ripped through an ammunition plant belonging to the al-Ahmar tribal opposition.
This could not be immediately confirmed independently.

10 Steps to Defeat the Corporatocracy
The only way to overcome the power of money is regain our courage and solidarity. Here's how to do that.
Bruce E. Levine
AlterNet
Many Americans know that the United States is not a democracy but a "corporatocracy," in which we are ruled by a partnership of giant corporations, the extremely wealthy elite and corporate-collaborator government officials. However, the truth of such tyranny is not enough to set most of us free to take action. Too many of us have become pacified by corporatocracy-created institutions and culture.
Some activists insist that this political passivity problem is caused by Americans' ignorance due to corporate media propaganda, and others claim that political passivity is caused by the inability to organize due to a lack of money. However, polls show that on the important issues of our day - from senseless wars, to Wall Street bailouts, to corporate tax-dodging, to health insurance rip-offs - the majority of Americans are not ignorant to the reality that they are being screwed. And American history is replete with organizational examples - from the Underground Railroad, to the Great Populist Revolt, to the Flint sit-down strike, to large wildcat strikes a generation ago - of successful rebels who had little money but lots of guts and solidarity.

Do Psychopaths Misrule Our World?
Examining these financial terrorists, you might well conclude that the conspiracy theory about shape-shifting lizards who secretly rule the world isn’t so far off. After all, psychopaths are often social shape-shifters.

In recent days the political news has been like an episode of some TV drama about high-level corruption – call it Criminal Minds meets The West Wing. The head of the International Monetary Fund – the global financial organization that sets terms for development aid -- was jailed in New York for allegedly assaulting a housemaid sexually at his hotel. Meanwhile, in California news broke that the state’s movie-star governor – known as both the Terminator and the Gropinator – fathered a love-child almost a decade ago and it didn’t come out until he was about to leave office.
Then, of course, there’s the presidential campaign of Newt Gingrich, a poster child for bad behavior, launched last week with a series of disastrous missteps and rationalizations.
What the three men have in common, aside from wielding more influence than they can handle or deserve, is that their serial misbehavior went unchecked for years. In fact, it was rationalized as mere exuberance, frequently excused in “exceptional” people, when it actually demonstrated something else – ruling class impunity.

The American Hate Machine (Video)

Robert Wanek is an educational activist who specializes in any form of activism stretching from school corruption to political parties and how they operate. Hopefully this video serves as a reminder that you may be right, but many people have no heart to base their own opinion so you will receive hate no matter what your beliefs may be. Stand strong, don't let anyone tell you why you are doing what you do. Only you know your true motivation for action, as long as you hold your morals close and beliefs in your heart nobody can stop you from spreading the truth.
Inspired by Joe Rogan's 'The American War Machine' and posted in response to Wanek's recent criticism in his local community after being arrested while standing on a public street filming a police officer. .

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President Barack Obama should abandon his policy of engaging Syria and stand foursquare behind opposition to the government of President Bashar al-Assad, lawmakers urged Wednesday.
Republican Senator John McCain and Independent Senator Joe Lieberman said Obama's effort to engage rather than shun Damascus had "little to show for it" and declared it was time to back protesters against Assad's rule.
"A new Syria strategy is now needed -- one that aligns the United States with the legitimate demands and aspirations of the Syrian people for their future," said the senators.
