DC's Revolving Door is Fascism, Pure and Simple

The revolving door of useful idiots swapping positions from the U.S. government to private industry is pandemic. It permeates every single industry; but especially banking, energy, warfood, medicine, prisons, and now surveillance.  It's fascism, pure and simple, and it's time we start admitting it.

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini.

We're already well aware of the revolving door at the Pentagon to keep the war machine going:

Fascist Revolving Door at 'Digital Blackwater' Booz Allen

Booz Allen could use some more government scrutiny. Maybe it would, if the private defense contractor didn't have such a revolving door relationship with Washington. Just how much is your private information in their hands? A 100 billion emails a day!

10 Steps to Defeat the Corporatocracy

The only way to overcome the power of money is regain our courage and solidarity. Here's how to do that.

Bruce E. Levine
AlterNet

Many Americans know that the United States is not a democracy but a "corporatocracy," in which we are ruled by a partnership of giant corporations, the extremely wealthy elite and corporate-collaborator government officials. However, the truth of such tyranny is not enough to set most of us free to take action. Too many of us have become pacified by corporatocracy-created institutions and culture.

Some activists insist that this political passivity problem is caused by Americans' ignorance due to corporate media propaganda, and others claim that political passivity is caused by the inability to organize due to a lack of money. However, polls show that on the important issues of our day - from senseless wars, to Wall Street bailouts, to corporate tax-dodging, to health insurance rip-offs - the majority of Americans are not ignorant to the reality that they are being screwed. And American history is replete with organizational examples - from the Underground Railroad, to the Great Populist Revolt, to the Flint sit-down strike, to large wildcat strikes a generation ago - of successful rebels who had little money but lots of guts and solidarity.

Supreme Court Lets Corporations Ban Class Actions

"This morning, the US Supreme Court dealt a crushing blow to American consumers and employees, ruling that companies can ban class actions in the fine print of contracts." - Attorney Deepak Gupta.

In an earlier article I discussed hurdles ordinary people face before America's High Court.  Saying pro-business rulings aren't new, it suggested the most damaging one occurred in 1886.  In Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railway, the High Court granted corporations legal personhood. Ever since, they've had the same rights as people without the responsibilities. Their limited liability status exempts them.

As a result, they've profited hugely and continue winning favorable rulings. Today more than ever from the Roberts Court, one observer calling its first full (2006-07) term a "blockbuster" with the Court's conservative wing prevailing most often.

Through today, it's been much the same, notably in its January 2010 Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, ruling government can't limit corporate political election spending as doing it violates their First Amendment freedoms. Writing for the 5 - 4 majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy called it legal "political speech," effectively putting a price tag on democracy.

The Corporate State Wins Again

Corporate Government - AFP image
Chris Hedges
TruthDig

When did our democracy die? When did it irrevocably transform itself into a lifeless farce and absurd political theater? When did the press, labor, universities and the Democratic Party—which once made piecemeal and incremental reform possible—wither and atrophy? When did reform through electoral politics become a form of magical thinking? When did the dead hand of the corporate state become unassailable?

The body politic was mortally wounded during the long, slow strangulation of ideas and priorities during the Red Scare and the Cold War. Its bastard child, the war on terror, inherited the iconography and language of permanent war and fear. The battle against internal and external enemies became the excuse to funnel trillions in taxpayer funds and government resources to the war industry, curtail civil liberties and abandon social welfare. Skeptics, critics and dissenters were ridiculed and ignored. The FBI, Homeland Security and the CIA enforced ideological conformity. Debate over the expansion of empire became taboo. Secrecy, the anointing of specialized elites to run our affairs and the steady intrusion of the state into the private lives of citizens conditioned us to totalitarian practices. Sheldon Wolin points out in “Democracy Incorporated” that this configuration of corporate power, which he calls “inverted totalitarianism,” is not like “Mein Kampf” or “The Communist Manifesto,” the result of a premeditated plot. It grew, Wolin writes, from “a set of effects produced by actions or practices undertaken in ignorance of their lasting consequences.”

Corporate capitalism—because it was trumpeted throughout the Cold War as a bulwark against communism—expanded with fewer and fewer government regulations and legal impediments. Capitalism was seen as an unalloyed good. It was not required to be socially responsible. Any impediment to its growth, whether in the form of trust-busting, union activity or regulation, was condemned as a step toward socialism and capitulation. Every corporation is a despotic fiefdom, a mini-dictatorship. And by the end Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobil and Goldman Sachs had grafted their totalitarian structures onto the state.

The New Corporate World Order

Robert Scheer

The debate over Republicans’ insistence on continued tax breaks for the superrich and the corporations they run should come to a screeching halt with the report in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal headlined “Big U.S. Firms Shift Hiring Abroad.” Those tax breaks over the past decade, leaving some corporations such as General Electric to pay no taxes at all, were supposed to lead to job creation, but just the opposite has occurred. As the WSJ put it, the multinational companies “cut their work forces in the U.S. by 2.9 million during the 2000s while increasing employment overseas by 2.4 million, new data from the U.S. Commerce Department show.”

General Electric, which was bailed out by taxpayers and which stored so much of its profit abroad that it paid no taxes for the past two years, was forced to tighten up, but while cutting its foreign workforce by 1,000 it cut a far more severe 28,000 in the United States. Jeffrey Immelt, the CEO of GE, recently appointed by President Barack Obama as his chief outside economic adviser, admits that this does not involve poorly paid work that Americans don’t want, but instead prime jobs: “We’ve globalized around markets, not cheap labor. The era of globalization around cheap labor is over. Today we go to China, we go to India, because that’s where the customers are.”

There is a bitter irony in that statement given that consumer purchasing power is down in the U.S. thanks to the devastating collapse of a housing bubble GE Capital fed with suspect mortgage financing that provided the company with well over half of its profits before the crash. The loss of well-paying jobs at multinationals like GE to other nations—54 percent of the GE workforce is foreign—exacerbates the plight of U.S. consumers while making the foreign customers even more attractive.

Sen. McCain: ‘Unless We Enact Draconian Measures,’ America Faces a ‘Fiscal Meltdown’

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that “unless we enact draconian measures,” America is headed for a “fiscal meltdown.”

“We are at a critical juncture in American history that unless we enact draconian measures, then the results are very obvious, and that is a fiscal meltdown. No country can borrow 40 cents out of every dollar it spends – even the largest and most powerful nation in the world. No nation can continue on that track. So, tough medicine is required,” McCain said during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.

United Corporate-Police States of America

Tony Cartalucci, Contributing Writer
Activist Post

When former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura asks Homeland Security spokesman, Lance Clem, who in the Federal Government oversees the network of government funded "fusion centers," his answer is "no one." It is more than likely that corporations like the war profiteering Halliburton, slave running DynCorp and other globalist multi-nationals"oversee" and run them, as turned out to be the case in Pennsylvania when a private US-Israeli firm was caught profiling activists. This is a tyranny of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations. A tyranny to meet millions of Americans as they wake up to realize their "elected" representatives are nothing more than corporate rubber stampers, regardless of party lines and rhetoric.

The Federal Government has already deemed Americans as security threats, detained them without charges, and held them indefinitely without due process in purpose-built concentration camps. They were Americans of Japanese descent*, held during World War 2. If you think that it can't happen again, or the events of Nazi Germany can't be repeated else where in the world, including the United States, think again. It's happening right now, the stage is set, and only one question remains ... will Americans capitulate?

People might ask - why, if the government is so tyrannical, are shows like Governor Ventura's"Conspiracy Theories" allowed to air? Remember though, ghettos, concentration camps, mass murder and genocide in Germany weren't made possible because the Nazi's conducted a stealth, shadowy conspiracy. These horrific affronts to humanity were made possible by the German people's acquiescence and trust in their government that their very public policies of penning up "undesirable" members of society, sterilizing them under an aggressive, Anglo-American inspired eugenics program, literally tagging them, forcing them into slave labor and exterminating them were essential to "homeland security."

The price of the German people's ignorance, in some cases fear and cowardice, to stand up to tyranny cost them their nation, their prosperity and millions of their lives, homes, and livelihood. The price of allowing tyranny to fester in America will make 9/11, the excuse used to create the Hitlerian Department of Homeland Security, look like a footnote in history.

*It should be pointed out the role that the census plays before mass round-ups and genocidal purges are carried out. Both the Japanese in America and the Jews in Germany were identified as state enemies through the use of the census. America's recent, and quite un-Constitutional "redesign" of the US census, in the current climate holds frightening parallels to the build-up of past atrocities.

A Government by The Fascists for The Fascists

"Fascism Grows in Black Rain" - Adam Gillespie
S. Paul Forrest
Activist Post

A fascist state exists where a nation begins to allow the control of its government by corporatism, single party political interests, and law enforcement that reaches beyond the normal necessity of such.  There are many other defining characteristics of a fascist condition, but in the United States of America these basic ingredients have come to define a developing system that is leading the American people into a cage of control.

Most recently in this country, fascism has taken the form of overzealous faux-patriotism, and its accompanying legislation, in order to garner control of our nationalistic interests, domestic and abroad.  It has condemned the speakers, the activists, the natural food producers, the non-Christians, immigrants and the poor.  In fact, it has attacked everything that is America.

9/11 started the landslide toward our national village.  Like an echo in the mountains unleashing an otherwise peaceful pack, this shot heard round the world shook the very base of our “Democracy” to the point where people without even the slightest idea of what Al-Qaeda was, started toting signs and waving flags when called upon by the Bush Regime to denounce and condemn the alleged actions of a terrorist organization from the remote country of Iraq.

It didn’t matter that the attack was a direct result of this Nation’s previous actions in a land we had no right to be in, or that the attack had not been proved to be carried out by these profiled “terrorists;" all that mattered was the American Government needed justification to invade and control an oil rich land.  When the towers fell, the race was on for total governmental control over “We The People” and, by extension, the Middle East.

In reaction to this “attack” by those in charge, came the enacting of one of the most destructive pieces of Executive and Legislative acts in the history of this Country:The Patriot Act.  This Wag the Dog“Patriotism” initiative set into play a series of national protectionist acts the like of which hadn’t been seen since the McCarthy Era.  Not only did this legislation throw up a cloak of denial to the reasons behind 9/11 and use it as a reason to propel us into an immoral war, it enabled the government to intrude into our lives and deny the Constitutional Rights of We, the American people.

It isn’t even the fact that the destruction of the Twin Towers has not been proven to have been linked to these terrorists, or that Iraq didn’t actually have Weapons of Mass Destruction as vehemently insisted upon by Bush and his minions; it is that they used the occasion to call upon those with heads deeply planted in the sand to begin waving flags in support of government-driven xenophobic initiatives.  It all served to introduce the next phase of Fascist Evolution.

Fascism is not new to this country, nor is it a conspiracy theory by half-baked paranoids.  It is alive and growing in this, our Republic, and has been for quite a long time.  Any developed country has, as part of its governing system, a certain level of fascism.  There needs to be a police element, otherwise there is anarchy.  A certain level of governmental control of information is necessary to secure military counter actions in national defense interests.  Prisons are established to correct criminal behavior. These defining principles of fascism are present intrinsically in any government.  The issue that needs to be watched and contained by the people, is to what level of existence the fascist element is present within said government.

America was supposed to be the land of the free.  The Statue of Liberty was meant as a beacon; calling to those across the globe to come to our door for refuge.  It is a place where religion was to be practiced freely, speech guaranteed, and a citizen had a right to vote for real representation.  Why then, are so many of our politicians uniting to close our borders, religion closed to anyone not Christian, and our electoral college a scene out of Himmler’s own daydream?

The gathering secrecy and purposeful placement of representatives of the fascist interests into the political arena is eerily consistent with the rise of the Third Reich in Germany.  Milton Mayer wrote on this in his book, They Thought They Were Free:

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would otherwise have worried about it.
This separation of government from people, this widening of the gap, took place so gradually and so insensibly, each step disguised (perhaps not even intentionally) as a temporary emergency measure or associated with true patriotic allegiance or with real social purposes. And all the crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of government growing remoter and remoter.
The Historical Parallels are frightening if one looks at it in context with the present initiatives of our American Paranoia in the wake of 9/11:

1.  Hitler, or rather the Third Reich, propagated that economic conditions of Germany in 1932 were the fault of the Jewish population. They introduced anti-Jewish decrees, which gradually eliminated the rights of Jewish citizens.  People listened attentively, believing every word.
  • In 2007, Oklahoma State Representative, Randy Terrill, a Republican, pushed through a series of measures to try to drive out illegal immigrants, whom he blamed for economic hardship and lawlessness in his state. Many followed the call for reform of our immigration laws across the nation based upon this same belief.
2.  In 1933, the Reich initiated internment camps for Habitual and Dangerous Criminals, which included beggars, the homeless, alcoholics, and the unemployed.
  • The current push by the Right to cease current unemployment compensation payments, tougher sentencing for “habitual” criminals, which directly affected immigrants and the attempt by Marge Baker, a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives, told The Associated Press in 2010, that we needed to have camps because there are a lot of these people (illegal immigrants) roaming among us.
  • The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a "mass exodus" of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons.
3.  In 1937, Jews are banned from many professional occupations including teaching Germans, and from being accountants or dentists. They are also denied tax reductions and child allowances.
  • In 2010, the Arizona Department of Education has told schools that teachers with "heavy" or "ungrammatical" accents are no longer allowed to teach English classes.
One can easily see other founding principles of Fascism in our system:
  • Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
  • Supremacy of the Military
  • Controlled Mass Media
  • Obsession with National Security
  • Religion and Government are Intertwined
  • Corporate Power is Protected
  • Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
  • Obsession with Crime and Punishment
  • Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
  • Fraudulent Elections
These are just a few of the similarities between the rise of the Third Reich's call to Patriots to protect the German Nation, and the current call for blind Patriotic support of our Government today.  Yes, they are more subtle, more disguised, more executive, but to those who are aware they are signs of things to come.  All one has to do to see the future is to compare the Nazi timeline with our own emerging one.

These sentiments are not just isolated in the words of these few people, they are the same beliefs that have been emerging in the Republican Party, the Freedom Party and the Tea Party Patriots.  These words may have been meant as protectionist statements, but so were the words of Hitler as felt by the Nazi Party and swallowed by a desperate people as a reaction to desperate times.

When a government set up as a beacon to those who have been downtrodden begins to extinguish not only the flame of Liberty but the very freedoms that this country was founded upon, it is time for a second look at reforming the very structure of that government.  The people that back these initiatives speak of Patriotism, but they act with very different character of a real Patriot.

Milton Mayer finishes his book with the poignant words of his colleague:
Once the war began, the government could do anything 'necessary' to win it; so it was with the 'final solution' of the Jewish problem, which the Nazis always talked about but never dared undertake, not even the Nazis, until war and its 'necessities' gave them the knowledge that they could get away with it.  The people abroad who thought that war against Hitler would help the Jews were wrong.  And the people in Germany who, once the war had begun, still thought of complaining, protesting, resisting, were betting on Germany's losing the war. It was a long bet. Not many made it.
As Erich Pratt stated so well: “If our government chooses to violate our unalienable rights; if our government chooses to pass unjust laws, contrary to the consent of the governed; if our government chooses to take despotic actions that reduce us to servitude of the government, or some political agenda – then we have a right and a duty according to the Declaration of Independence to throw off such Government."

What will you do to avoid history’s repetition and the continuation of the American Dream?  For those of you who have been sleeping for the past several years, I can only say this: Welcome to the slow creep of American Fascism.

Wal-Mart Invasion Part of Larger DHS Takeover of America (VIDEO)

Infowars

WASHINGTON — Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country—launching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

Editor's Note:Please contact Walmart to let them know that you do not want the DHS "if you see something, say something" campaign in your local store.  A Walmart representative will take your information and offer a call back.  You will be asked for your name, zip code, local store location/address, and your phone number.  I'm sure you can also express your concerns anonymously.

I know that many people are outraged by the marriage between big business and big sis, but please don't forget to be courteous.  You are more likely to be heard, if you remain calm and courteous.

I simply explained to the representative that I read a news report about the "program"; I am concerned about the ever increasing police state such as the recent airport screenings, the newly developed security screening at bus  and train stations, sporting events, etc.; I am concerned that people will be detained and arrested based on frivolous complaints by others.  The loss of our freedom is at risk. I oppose the implementation of the "program" based on the fact that it is inappropriate for a private business to allow the federal government to propagandize the "War on Terror" by turning citizen against citizen.  If implemented, I will not shop at Walmart.
