Risking Nuclear Armageddon
Anthony Fred Art "War Mind" |
Irresponsible leaders risk the unthinkable. Media scoundrels cheerlead mindlessly. So do neocon think tanks. Ordinary people are more concerned about mundane trivia than survival.
Nero didn't fiddle while Rome burned. The violin wasn't invented for another 1,500 years. Today's officials go where earlier ones wouldn't dare. They risk regional or global disaster. War on Syria and/or Iran may ignite more than leaders bargain for.
Imagine blowing up the world to control it. Imagine forces able to stop it staying sidelined. Imagine the unimaginable. Imagine it before it's too late to matter.
World War II weapons were toys compared to today's. Before war ended, tens of millions died. Estimates range from 50 - 70 million. No one knows for sure. Preventing war would have saved them. A world war that was hoped never again to happen became perpetual conflicts.
Obama replicates hardline neocon extremism. He did what supporters thought impossible. He surpassed the worst of Bush. Imagine what'll do in a second term.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions against Tehran's state-owned national airline, Iran Air, barring Americans from doing business with it.
Iran Air has been used by Tehran's powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to "transport military related equipment" since 2006, the Treasury Department said in a statement.
"Rockets or missiles have been transported via Iran Air passenger aircraft, and IRGC officers occasionally take control over Iran Air flights carrying special IRGC-related cargo," the statement said.
"Additionally, commercial Iran Air flights have also been used to transport missile or rocket components to Syria."

NATO shortcomings 'could jeopardise Libya mission'

BRUSSELS (AFP) - US Defence Secretary Robert Gates warned on Friday that military shortcomings among NATO members could jeopardise the alliance's air war in Libya.
With half of the countries in the 28-member alliance not participating in the Libya campaign, Gates said it reflected a worrisome lack of military assets.
"Frankly, many of those allies sitting on the sidelines do so not because they do not want to participate, but simply because they cannot. The military capabilities simply aren't there," Gates said in a speech in Brussels.

CAIRO (AFP) - The top US uniformed commander Admiral Michael Mullen said Wednesday that it is difficult to say how long it will take for Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi to quit office even though he "has to leave".
"It's the US position that Kadhafi has to leave and it is a challenge for anybody to put a timetable to that," the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff told a news conference on a visit to Cairo.
He was responding to a question on whether NATO would end its campaign with Kadhafi staying in power.
