Is the NSA Blackmail Inc. for the military industrial complex?

Jon Rappoport

Every director of the NSA is a general or an admiral.

The NSA is organized under the US Dept. of Defense.

Imagine that you are a powerful player who straddles two worlds—the Dept. of Defense and the private sector where corporate defense-contractors live and flourish.

You’ve served many times in both arenas. Your name is Mr. Military Industrial Complex.

Your mission is war.

DARPA & Raytheon Create AI Wiki to Database Events and People

In recent weeks, more and more articles have been appearing in mainstream sources announcing the arrival of compartmentalized forms of artificial intelligence. On June 26, I wrote an article titled, “New Intelligent Biometric Security Program Can Adapt To Human Behavior,” which dealt with the announcement by Biometric Technologies Laboratory that researchers have developed a biometric security program that is able to adapt to changing circumstances and make intelligent decisions regarding the information it receives.

Continuing with this trend, a more recent announcement has also been issued from Raytheon, the notorious American defense contractor, and the shadowy DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) regarding the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) program designed to comb news sites and TV broadcasts and boil down the information contained therein to a single concise article for the intelligence agent launching the query.

Bigger than Blackwater: Arming the UAE

Foreign Policy in Focus

The International Defense Exhibition, otherwise known as IDEX, has been held bi-annually in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 1993. It is the largest defense expo in the Middle East and North Africa and one of the biggest in the world. But far from being a one-off, it highlights the UAE’s growing stature as a global arms buyer.

This year’s IDEX took place in the glistening Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Its high ceilings and massive rooms displayed a diverse array of high-tech weaponry against the backdrop of heavily illuminated signboards like the ones you see in the showrooms of luxury car dealerships. All the big Western defense corporations were there — Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Dyncorp, Northrup Grumman, European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co. — as well as Chinese companies, including China North. There were also a host of local companies including Arabian Aerospace, Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company, and the state-owned Mubadala. Like all of these events, it was a heavily male enterprise. The exhibitors wore suits. The visitors wore either the military uniform of the UAE or traditional Arab dress.

Eisenhower's worst fears came true. We invent enemies to buy the bombs

Britain faces no serious threat, yet keeps waging war. While big defence exists, glory-hungry politicians will use it

War Mind

Why do we still go to war? We seem unable to stop. We find any excuse for this post-imperial fidget and yet we keep getting trapped. Germans do not do it, or Spanish or Swedes. Britain's borders and British people have not been under serious threat for a generation. Yet time and again our leaders crave battle. Why?

Last week we got a glimpse of an answer and it was not nice. The outgoing US defence secretary, Robert Gates, berated Europe's "failure of political will" in not maintaining defence spending. He said Nato had declined into a "two-tier alliance" between those willing to wage war and those "who specialise in 'soft' humanitarian, development, peacekeeping and talking tasks". Peace, he implied, is for wimps. Real men buy bombs, and drop them.

This call was echoed by Nato's chief, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who pointed out how unfair it was that US defence investment represented 75% of the Nato defence expenditure, where once it was only half. Having been forced to extend his war on Libya by another three months, Rasmussen wanted to see Europe's governments come up with more money, and no nonsense about recession. Defence to him is measured not in security but in spending.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - India on Monday cleared a more than $4.0-billion deal to buy military transport planes from Boeing in the biggest ever defence deal between New Delhi and an American firm, officials said.

The agreement for the C-17 Globemaster III planes, used for transporting heavy equipment, was cleared at a meeting of the government's cabinet committee on security affairs, a senior government official said.

The Indian defence ministry declined to comment but the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the cabinet gave its clearance to buy 10 C-17 aircraft.

The Heavy Cost of the Bush-Obama Murder Rampage

Dees Illustration

Lew Rockwell

In every election cycle, the politicians love to pretend there is a difference among them on the foreign policy questions. Yet on these issues of unsurpassed importance, we see the Democrats and Republicans are all part of the same bloodthirsty gang.

On the superficial level of presidential politics, Obama and Bush appeared light-years apart. They play opposites in the DC-approved official culture war between those who pretend to be genuine red-blooded Americans of the heartland and those who feign an understanding of the beleaguered urban minorities and oppressed underclass, when in truth both perfectly embody the same Wall Street-Pentagon-friendly power elite. This is most clearly seen in their virtually identical approach toward empire.

A Militarized Economy Cannot Balance the Budget

We can’t afford our bloated military budget and still have democracy.

John Perkins
CSR Wire

Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose.” -Eisenhower, 1961 Military Industrial Speech

While we send our love and support to those so horribly impacted by the earthquake and tsunami, we must not allow this shock to divert us from the tsunami headed our way. Our business and political leaders will try to use this terrible catastrophe as a diversion to hoodwink us into budgetary reductions that will fatten their wallets and leave us and our children devastated.

It does not matter on what side of the political fence you sit during the current budget debates. The fact is if our leaders are not willing to take into account our over-dependence on a militarized economy and change it, we will never balance the budget. Our progeny will face an endless struggle to clean up the debris.

Is Military Spending Saving or Enslaving?

Michael Edwards
Activist Post

The latest announcement that the Pentagon's military research division, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), has created shape-shifting robots sounds like anotherTerminator sequel, but this is mainstream news.  Sure, this is still theoretical, as these robots are just half a millimeter thick, but it portends a future where, "it will be used to create full-sized cars and aircraft that morph as they move, or robots that can 'flow' like mercury into small openings, or multipurpose military uniforms that can adapt to different environments."  There is no discussion in the article about the benefits to mankind, only the military applications.

Whether or not the categories listed below were conceived of by individuals who had a desire to contribute to Humanity's progress, the fact remains that  between 45%-90% of American taxpayer money now goes to military spending.  The U.S. has set the stage, but many other governments certainly have received their marching orders.  The relationship between the foreign battlefield and civilian life at home can be traced back to the advent of world wars, as private research and development was often subsumed into the military mission.  In our modern era of perpetual war on nebulous terror, it might be worthwhile to ask:  Is our support of military spending helping humanity or enslaving us?

Surveillance -- Spy technology was naturally a military creation.  One could certainly argue that every country has real enemies, and it would be profoundly naive not to conduct surveillance against potential saboteurs.  However, the citizens of the world who have paid the bill for this technology have clearly had it turned upon us.  The ways we are being tracked, traced, and databased certainly makes it seem like we the people are the enemy.

Communications --  High-tech surveillance is at its core pure communications.  The military enhanced telephone, radio and TV technologies long ago.  A joint working relationship with communications companies led to the eyes in the skies of satellite technology, which initially was designed to communicate with military units.  It eventually had wide applications in the early space program.  Radar is ubiquitous; another military application.  And, yes, the Internet was conceived in a DARPA think-tank; it became a vehicle for secure communications between universities and military research sites in the early '60s.  Since then, the Internet has positively affected the lives of billions of people, offering freedom to communicate to anyone, anywhere in the world.  However, the new Cybersecurity Act calls for government oversight of not only the infrastructure, but of citizen-created content as well (noted in the bill as "data").

Transportation --  The military academy, West Point, was the first engineering school in the United States.  It was denounced early on as being incompatible with democracy, as its graduates became key civil engineers and educators in every part of society.  Those four-lane highways that we all love, as we cruise down them in cars that have come to signify American independence, were created by an Eisenhower directive in 1956 to accommodate military transport and escape from atomic attack.  Naval passage has had wonderful uses, but funding by taxpayers has still led to "stealth, speed, and firepower"  as an enduring submarine slogan.  The first practical helicopters were used by the Germans in WWII.  The Wright Brothers are American legends, but they had their military connections as well.  We need only to compare the flight technology used in commercial travel vs. what was announced the other day by the British military: Taranis.  Taranis (pronounced: Tyrannis, of course) is an unmanned stealth fighter that can hit any continent in the world and, "is built to carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance on enemy territory using onboard sensors."  The cost is £143 million during the worst economic crisis of modern times.

Weapons and Security -- Tasers and sound cannons, are just two of the myriad weapons of modern war.  And, yet, these torture technologies are now routinely appearing where citizens attempt to peaceably assemble.  This militarization of domestic security functions can create an adversarial relationship between law enforcement and the people they are sworn to protect.  One only has to walk through a naked body scanner at the airport, under the auspices of the abusive TSA, to learn what it feels like to live in a war zone.

Science -- Scientific research has always been the thread that binds all of the disciplines of modern warfare.  The history is a byzantine one, but had its official origins in the Council of National Defense, 1916, which coordinated industry for national defense.  This mindset led eventually to The Office of Scientific Research and Development in 1941.  Vannevar Bush, the director of The Carnegie Institution at the time, was bothered by the "lack of cooperation between civilian scientists and the military."  He was an early computer genius, a proponent of technocracy, and he advocated a system of connectedness called The Memex that was an absolute blueprint for the functions of the Internet that we see today.  In short, a scientific dictatorship has been imagined, beta tested, improved upon again, and activated.  Consider this quote from Bush in 1945:

Consider a future device for individual use, which is a sort of mechanized private file and library. It needs a name, and to coin one at random, "memex" will do. A memex is a device in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications, and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory.

It consists of a desk, and while it can presumably be operated from a distance, it is primarily the piece of furniture at which he works. On the top are slanting translucent screens, on which material can be projected for convenient reading. There is a keyboard, and sets of buttons and levers. Otherwise it looks like an ordinary desk.
      - Vannevar Bush; As We May Think; Atlantic Monthly; July 1945.

This is how behind the times we are as recipients of information from the elite circles.  Perhaps, when we hear that terrahertz surveillance blimps are hovering above us; or that nanotech particles can control our minds from a distance; or there is a military-UFO connection in China; or weather modification arrays can ignite the atmosphere, we might do well not to immediately laugh at such "crazy" claims, but to investigate them.

Dwight Eisenhower succinctly warned us 50 years ago of a "Military-Industrial Complex."

Do we in fact have a military-industrial complex today?  This list of companies fulfilling military contracts certainly is indicative.  Maybe the question shouldn't be:  Is military spending enslaving us, but are we enslaving ourselves when we support the concept of war itself?

11 Reasons Why The Threat From Al-Qaeda is Not Real

Saman Mohammadi
The Excavator

The United States government has repeatedly stated that the treat from Al-Qaeda against America is very real, and that all action is being taken to eliminate that threat. Nobody in their right mind would question such a serious assessment about a sensitive national security matter from the world's leading democracy. But the truth is that over the past fifty years America's democratic institutions like the press have been weakened, and an elitist National Security State has risen, and taken control over all aspects of government.

Since World War II U.S. leaders have consistently lied to the American people about foreign threats in order to feed the military machine's appetite for war. All of these wars are unjust and unwarranted but that does not stop the self-interested criminals who control U.S. foreign policy. A recent example of a lie they told was their assertion that Saddam Hussein was in possession of weapons of mass destruction. That episode revealed to many people the true nature of the American government. Simply put, it does not care about the truth, or the American people, or the members of the military. U.S. leaders like former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and current Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, to name but a few, tell lies at will. Dishonesty means nothing to them. They deceive the American people, the American military, and the world about their motives and methods - and they lie to themselves about their own powers and abilities.

Next to the hundreds of thousands of innocent people who were slaughtered by the American war machine in its numerous criminal wars, U.S. soldiers have suffered the most - way more than the rest of the population in America. It can't be said enough that the U.S. government's treatment of its soldiers is scandalous and shameful. It is so out of whack that in America today dogs are treated better than military vets. Some dogs are even treated to luxurious spas while military vets are denied the proper health care that they deserve. Instead, they're left to rot, and commit suicide. And for what? To defend America? To defeat Al-Qaeda? Or to keep the war machine and its benefactors rich and powerful? As you will see by the end of this post, it is the latter.

I. Setting The Historical Scene: The United States Government And The American Mainstream Media Are Anti-Democracy, Anti-Freedom, Anti-Peace

"All governments lie." said American journalist I. F. Stone. You can add to that great quote "and all newspapers lie, too."

By joining forces together, the CIA and American newspapers sold two criminal wars to the people - a manufactured and destructive "War on Terror," and the Iraq war. Most journalists were not consciously part of the propaganda campaign, they just bought the hype, but, without a doubt, a lot of journalists who work for the CIA knowingly injected false information into their columns and helped spread nationalist fever across America to boost public support for the wars.

Government spies posing as independent journalists is one of the CIA's least kept secrets. Former CIA director William Colby famously said "The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media." Carl Bernstein revealed the relationship between the CIA and the media in his 1977 Rolling Stone article "The CIA and the Media." An excerpt:

"Some of these journalists' relationships with the Agency were tacit; some were explicit. There was cooperation, accommodation and overlap. Journalists provided a full range of clandestine services -- from simple intelligence gathering to serving as go-betweens with spies in Communist countries. Reporters shared their notebooks with the CIA. Editors shared their staffs. Some of the journalists were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors-without-portfolio for their country. Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested it the derring-do of the spy business as in filing articles, and, the smallest category, full-time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad. In many instances, CIA documents show, journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements America's leading news organizations."

Al-Qaeda Is A Front Group For The US Military-Industrial Complex

Revelation that terror mastermind met with Pentagon officials after 9/11 serves as reminder that every attack has been run by an operative with direct ties to US intelligence

Prison Planet

American-born Al-Qaeda terror leader Anwar Al-Awlaki, who met with Pentagon officials months after 9/11, is by no means the only patsy handler the Central Intelligence Agency has used over the years to oversee false flag attacks in America and around the world. In fact, just about every major terror attack has been run by an operative with direct ties to the US military-industrial complex.

As we reported this morning, Awlaki, the man who helped plot the aborted Christmas Day bombing, the Fort Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt, and who also preached to the alleged September 11 hijackers, dined at the Pentagon just months after 9/11 documents obtained by Fox News show.

Awlaki is just the latest in a long list of Al-Qaeda double agents whose activity proves that the terror organization is little more than a front for the Pentagon and the US war machine. Let’s take a look at just a handful of dozens of examples of terror masterminds working for intelligence agencies.

Machines of War: Blackwater, Monsanto, and Bill Gates

Silvia Ribeiro
Pravda

A report by Jeremy Scahill in The Nation (Blackwater's Black Ops, 9/15/2010) revealed that the largest mercenary army in the world, Blackwater (now called Xe Services) clandestine intelligence services was sold to the multinational Monsanto. Blackwater was renamed in 2009 after becoming famous in the world with numerous reports of abuses in Iraq, including massacres of civilians. It remains the largest private contractor of the U.S. Department of State "security services," that practices state terrorism by giving the government the opportunity to deny it.

Many military and former CIA officers work for Blackwater or related companies created to divert attention from their bad reputation and make more profit selling their nefarious services-ranging from information and intelligence to infiltration, political lobbying and paramilitary training - for other governments, banks and multinational corporations. According to Scahill, business with multinationals, like Monsanto, Chevron, and financial giants such as Barclays and Deutsche Bank, are channeled through two companies owned by Erik Prince, owner of Blackwater: Total Intelligence Solutions and Terrorism Research Center. These officers and directors share Blackwater.

One of them, Cofer Black, known for his brutality as one of the directors of the CIA, was the one who made contact with Monsanto in 2008 as director of Total Intelligence, entering into the contract with the company to spy on and infiltrate organizations of animal rights activists, anti-GM and other dirty activities of the biotech giant.

Contacted by Scahill, the Monsanto executive Kevin Wilson declined to comment, but later confirmed to The Nation that they had hired Total Intelligence in 2008 and 2009, according to Monsanto only to keep track of "public disclosure" of its opponents. He also said that Total Intelligence was a "totally separate entity from Blackwater."
