Ebola reaches UK: Briton feared to have caught virus after travelling in West Africa
A BRITON is feared to have caught the deadly Ebola virus after travelling in the West African region where it has claimed more than 800 lives. ![]() |
It is now feared that Ebola has reached the UK [GETTY] |
Health chiefs in Wales said yesterday that the condition of the suspected victim is being "closely monitored".
Officials confirmed that the unnamed patient from Cardiff, South Wales, contacted them after feeling ill on their return to British soil.
They were effectively quarantined in their own home and would speak to doctors on a daily basis until the threat was deemed to have passed.
Public Health Wales said the patient believed they "may have been exposed" to the virus which has killed 826 people in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Guinea.
Spokesperson Anna Humphries said: "We have known about this person for the last week - somebody travelled in West Africa and came back a week ago.
"They identified they may have been exposed to Ebola.
"The reason we haven't spoken about this before is the individual is not currently a case of ebola."
She said there was "no risk to the public" posed by the quarantined traveller and stressed that the case is unconfirmed. Read more

Now Food and Fuel is Running Out
![]() |
Empty shelfs and trucks halted by snow: UK Express |
UK Express
BRITAIN was running out of food last night as the big freeze paralysed the transport network.
Fuel supplies were also at risk after a surge in demand for gas and petrol drained reserves to critically low levels.
Transport Secretary Philip Hammond, the Government’s snow supremo, was urged to get a grip on the crisis as heavy snowfalls and plunging temperatures grounded flights and halted delivery lorries.
Staple foods were fast disappearing from supermarket shelves as shoppers who managed to brave the bad weather sought to stock up on essentials such as bread and milk.
Sainsbury’s said it had increased its stocks of long-life UHT milk, which has seen a 20 per cent rise in demand from families fearing a prolonged cold spell. A spokeswoman said it was also baking extra bread but admitted it had “great difficulty” ensuring supplies got through to some regions. The severe weather has also led to petrol shortages. Some rural forecourts were out of fuel yesterday with others expected to run dry by the weekend.

British police know Assange’s location, await arrest orders: report
Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, is in Great Britain and police there are waiting to be given the order to arrest him, the Independent reports.
Despite accusations that Julian Assange is on the run, The Independent has learnt that Scotland Yard has known his whereabouts for more than a month but has yet to receive official instructions to arrest him....[T]he 39-year-old Australian supplied the Metropolitan Police with contact details upon arriving in the UK in October. Police sources confirmed that they have a telephone number for Mr Assange and are fully aware of where he is staying.Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) has received the so-called "red notice" – an international arrest warrant – but has so far refused to authorise the arrest of Mr Assange, who is thought to be in South-east England. Until it does, police forces cannot act.
Earlier this week, Interpol issued an international arrest warrant for Assange, who is wanted in a sex assault investigation in Sweden. The investigation stems from allegations by two women who accuse Assange of sexual impropriety, something the WikiLeaks founder strongly denies.
Sweden issued, then dropped an arrest warrant against Assange in August, around the time that WikiLeaks released US documents related to Iraq. Another Swedish prosecutor then reopened the case.
Last week, ahead of the release of the State Department cables, a Swedish prosecutor ordered Assange be detained. Interpol issued an international arrest warrant on the basis of that order. No charges have been laid against Assange.
Assange, who says he had consensual sex with the two complainants, has said he believes the sex assault claims are an attempt to discredit him and his whistleblower website. He has speculated that the Pentagon may be behind the accusation.
He has also suggested that US lawmakers will attempt to criminalize his organization. US Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday the US is actively pursuing a criminal investigation of Assange, to see if he has broken any US laws. A Republican lawmaker has called on the US to declare WikiLeaks a "terrorist organization."
The Independent reports British police have delayed arresting Assange for "technical" reasons, suggesting an arrest will be imminent once concerns over the international warrant's details are worked out.

Nigel Farage: Why We Would be Better Off Out of This Chaos
Nigel Farage
UK Express
IS it time to leave the European Union, would we be Better Off Out? As the Daily Express courageously insists: Of course we would.
Over the last 20 years I have been promoting the very simple idea that our country would be doing itself, its people and the rest of the world a great favour by returning to self-governance. And this is why.
We would be Better Off Out financially by simply not paying the £48million a day to the European Union. This would be money better spent at home with priorities set by our elected representatives, rather than returned in part with European conditions.
We would be Better Off Out financially minus the dead weight of regulation that makes the life of our businesspeople a misery.

The Telegraph
November 10, 2010
November 10, 2010
After initially being ejected from the lobby of Millbank by police and security staff, the protestors smashed their way in through windows.
Using sticks and chairs they destroyed CCTV cameras and broke windows from the inside of the office block. Employees had to be evacuated as masked youths rampaged through corridors and onto the roof.
Dozens of police officers stationed outside the entrance were overwhelmed as the crowd of thousands pelted them with rocks and bottles.

UK's Great Austerity Sell Off of State-Owned Assets Begins
The great austerity auction of state-owned assets has commenced after a pair of Canadian pension funds splashed out £2.1bn to acquire High Speed One, the UK's high-speed rail link.
Graham Ruddick
Telegraph
The deal means the consortium has won a 30-year concession to run the 68-mile stretch of rail between London and the Channel Tunnel, as well as the stations on the line, St Pancras International, Stratford, Ashford and Ebbsfleet.
Philip Hammond, the Transport Secretary, on Friday called the deal "great news for taxpayers and rail passengers". The £2.1bn price is above analysts' estimates of £1.5bn to £2bn.
High Speed One was put on the block in June and was seen as one of the most attractive assets likely to be sold by the Coalition as it seeks to reduce Britain's national debt of £952bn. Other assets earmarked for potential privatisation are the Dartford Crossing, the Tote, the state's 49pc holding in National Air Traffic Services – to which the Government has appointed Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise on its strategic options – and Royal Mail.
Under Friday's rail agreement, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan and Borealis, the infrastructure arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, will receive the track access charges paid by the train operators that use the high-speed line – Eurostar and Southeastern Trains. They will also have the right to sell further access to the track and the stations. High Speed One is generating annual earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of £135m.
The Department for Transport played down fears the deal could lead to higher passenger fares through the consortium increasing charges for train operators. The charges on the line are capped by the Secretary of State and the Office of Rail Regulation, which monitors the performance of High Speed One.
Mr Hammond said the consortium's business plan "very clearly" shows the desire for extra services on the line. Deutsche Bahn aims to launch services to Frankfurt and Amsterdam from 2013 that use the track. "It is a big vote of confidence in UK plc and a big vote of market confidence in the future of high speed railway," he added.

Doomsayers are selling Britain short, says top fund manager
Tom Dobell, manager of M&G Recovery, believes the UK has plenty to offer investors during the recovery.
Ian Cowie
Telegraph
Don’t get Tom Dobell started on bankers. The manager of M&G Recovery, a £6bn fund with 100,000 investors, tells me: “I am astounded at the way banks have abused their taxpayer guarantee. They have behaved atrociously and have done a huge amount of damage to our country.
“Some of these people have behaved disgracefully. It is amazing what you find out about in fund management. You get to see the best and worst of human nature; sometimes on the same day. HSBC is the only bank I would cross the road for. It is conservatively capitalised and its management has more integrity and corporate culture than the rest of them put together.”
Mr Dobell’s scorn is quite different from the populist claptrap produced by politicians almost every day (yes, Vincent, I mean you). During a lost decade in which the FTSE 100 index of Britain’s biggest shares fell by 15pc, M&G Recovery more than doubled investors’ money.
So the opinions of its manager about who is to blame for the mess we are in and the prospects for Britain’s economic recovery – or the risks of a double-dip recession - are better informed than most. He recently celebrated his tenth anniversary at the helm of the flagship fund of M&G - the company that introduced unit trusts to Britain - and emphasises that he buys or shuns individual shares rather than backing an economy.
But this usually quietly-spoken farming man from Somerset is emphatic that the pessimists are wrong and that those who believe them are not only selling Britain short but missing major opportunities to make money.
Speaking before this week’s better-than-expected gross domestic product (GDP) figures eased fears of economic stagnation, he said: “Detractors are ten a penny and, unfortunately, a lot of people see the glass as half empty but I am pretty optimistic and believe there are great opportunities for some British companies.
“We look to identify unloved businesses with honest hard-working managers, good strategies and the cashflow that comes from that. The aim is to buy low, when they are being bashed from pillar to post, and then sell high when they have bounced back.”

In UK, every email and website to be stored by government
Every email, phone call and website visit is to be recorded and stored after the Coalition Government revived controversial Big Brother snooping plans.
Tom Whitehead
Telegraph
It will allow security services and the police to spy on the activities of every Briton who uses a phone or the internet.
Moves to make every communications provider store details for at least a year will be unveiled later this year sparking fresh fears over a return of the surveillance state.
The plans were shelved by the Labour Government last December but the Home Office is now ready to revive them.
It comes despite the Coalition Agreement promised to "end the storage of internet and email records without good reason".
Any suggestion of a central "super database" has been ruled out but the plans are expected to involve service providers storing all users details for a set period of time.
That will allow the security and police authorities to track every phone call, email, text message and website visit made by the public if they argue it is needed to tackle crime or terrorism.
The information will include who is contacting whom, when and where and which websites are visited, but not the content of the conversations or messages.

British Government to Seize All Paychecks
Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones
Infowars.com
September 20, 2010
Infowars.com
September 20, 2010

Forget big government – the same elite whose policies caused the financial collapse are now ready to launch the next phase of their fascist takeover of the economy – by forcing businesses to send employee paychecks straight to the government, who would then deduct the “appropriate tax” before the employee receives their wage, as the statist cancer of collectivism grows.
The proposal represents another hammer blow to financial privacy, as the establishment moves towards a total cashless society where every transaction is tracked, traced and controlled by the authorities.
“The UK’s tax collection agency is putting forth a proposal that all employers send employee paychecks to the government, after which the government would deduct what it deems as the appropriate tax and the pay the employee’s by bank transfer,” reports CNBC.
The system would be run by the same organization, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), that has become notorious for its botched handling of data and incorrect tax calculations which have forced people to spend months and even years trying to claim back unfairly claimed money seized by the taxman.
But this story is about far more than the threat of mere bureaucracy or bumbling incompetence – this is about the system exploiting the economic crisis it caused as a pretext to completely dominate and control our lives.
This is about the state handing itself the power to arbitrarily raise taxes to any level it desires and then automatically seizing the money with no chance of redress or petition on behalf of the taxpayer.
Allied to the proposal will be a new program that will force middle-class families to take government “lie detector tests,” which are notoriously unreliable and inadmissible in court, as part of intrusive tax investigations into their financial affairs.
Prime Minister David Cameron and his side-kick Nick Clegg’s promise to deconstruct the Big Brother state in Britain has proven to be completely fraudulent. This is Big Brother on steroids, and it mimics a myriad of other programs on both sides of the pond that are being enforced as part of the same move towards total regulation and control over every aspect of our existence.
- Local tax authorities such as Pennsylvania telling residents “we know where you live” and threatening to use satellite imaging technology to track them down for claimed back taxes.
- So-called “smart-meters” being introduced by law to allow utility companies and the government to regulate energy consumption remotely.
- Government plans to dictate what kind of household appliances people are allowed to own and what kind of light bulbs we can use.
- Fees and restrictions on garage sales and any kind of independent, local community-driven economic activity.
- Legislation aimed at preventing people from sharing, trading, or selling homegrown food, as part of a total Homeland Security takeover of all U.S. food and U.S. farms.
Every new assault the state launches against us is focused around increasing our dependence on Big Brother and making us destitute and unable to survive without welfare.
People in the United Kingdom and the United States need to understand that their governments are malevolent and that their primary purpose is to obliterate the middle class by forcing them to become dependent on the state. As the cost of living soars, as tax hikes go through the roof, and as austerity fascism starts to bite, governments are now moving to prevent people from becoming self-sufficient, dashing the only hope of avoiding poverty for many.
Allied with the march of green fascism, the economic crisis has been ruthlessly exploited by the elite to empower the state to wholly subjugate the people under the thumb of big government. Every step they take is about enriching themselves politically and financially, while ensuring our only recourse is to beg for handouts in return for allowing ourselves to become slaves whose every action is controlled, catalogued, judged and punished by our new masters on the global plantation.

BREAKING NEWS: U.K. cops: 5 arrested over plot targeting pope
![]() |
Maximum security: Major operation to protect the Pope |
BREAKING NEWS
Suspects detained 'on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism'
The arrests were made at 0545 BST at addresses in London after counter-terrorism officers received intelligence of a potential threat.
The five men have been taken to a central London police station.
Officers are continuing searches at premises connected to the raids. The men are not British nationals.
Earlier, the Pope attended an assembly of children at a Catholic college in west London.
In a statement from Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police said that the five men had been arrested in an operation launched by officers from the force's Counter-Terrorism Command.
The five were arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.
Ongoing searchThe five men are 26, 27, 36, 40 and 50 years old. They were arrested in an armed operation at business premises where searches are continuing.
Residential premises in north and east London are also being searched. Officers have not found any hazardous items.
It is not clear whether the investigations relate to a plot against the Pope himself or an element of the visit.
In the statement, the force said: "Today's arrests were made after police received information following initial inquiries by detectives. A decision was made to arrest the five men.
"Following today's arrests policing arrangements for the papal visit were reviewed and we are satisfied our current policing plan remains appropriate. The itinerary has not changed. There is no change to the UK threat level."
Policing billThe UK's top police officers from England and Scotland spent months planning the security arrangements for Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the UK.
Those plans included threat assessments, standard arrangements covering the safe transport of significant public figures and the potential need to control crowds during the visit's major events.
In all, the policing bill for the visit is expected to top £1m.
Reacting to the development, Father Frederico Lombardi, the Pope's press spokesman, said the Vatican was "totally confident" in Scotland Yard and the ability of its officers.
The papal team had no direct information about the police operation. The Pope remained calm and had been welcomed warmly everywhere he had gone, he said.
"The police have already said that the information demonstrated that there is no need to change the programme," he said.
The BBC's Emily Buchanan, who was with the Pope at his visit to an assembly of children at a Catholic college in west London, described the security around the Pope as "extremely high... with no lapses"
Considering the London's 7/7 and America's 9/11 false flag attacks, we must wonder if this is, yet, another attempt to advance the ever increasing police state designed to label activists and protesters as domestic terrorists.
