Obama Authorizes Targeted Airstrikes In Iraq

Source
Brandon Turbeville

President Barack Obama has now authorized airstrikes in Iraq for the purposes of allegedly targeting Sunni extremists and ISIS militants currently running rampant across the country. Obama can now authorize the strikes if it is deemed necessary to “prevent a potential act of genocide.”

"I therefore authorized targeted air strikes if necessary to help forces in Iraq as they fight to break the siege and protect the civilians trapped there,” Obama said.

Obama reassured Americans that he will “not allow the United States to be drawn into fighting another war in Iraq,” even as he stated that “America is coming to help.”

As ABC News reports, “The announcements marked the deepest American engagement in Iraq since U.S. troops withdrew in late 2011 after nearly a decade of war.”

Israel-Palestinian violence erupts on three borders

Violence erupted on Israel's borders with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday, leaving at least eight dead and dozens wounded, as Palestinians marked what they term "the catastrophe" of Israel's founding in 1948.

Israeli troops shot at protesters in three separate locations to prevent crowds from crossing Israeli frontier lines in the deadliest such confrontation in years.

Israeli and Syrian media reports said Israeli gunfire killed four people after dozens of Palestinian refugees infiltrated the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria, along a disputed border that has been quiet for decades.

Witnesses on the nearby Lebanese frontier said four Palestinians were killed after Israeli forces fired at rock-throwing protesters to prevent them from crossing the border.

The Lebanese army had also earlier fired in the air in an attempt to hold back the crowds.

Libya: The Rest of the Story

Please note the "EnoughGaddafi.com" signs. EnoughGaddafi.com's
webmaster is listed on the US State Department's Movements.org as
the "Twitter" to follow.
Libyan opposition literally running protests from Washington.

When Qaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam,accused foreigners and opposition groups of fomenting unrest within Libya, it appears no truer words have been spoken. It is not surprising BBC and the rest of the corporate owned media went through extensive measures to discredit his speech.

Unbelievable revelations have been discovered regarding the unrest in Libya. The leader of Libya's opposition group organizing the protests both inside and outside of Libya, is currently in Washington D.C. as he and his organization direct the upheaval and bedlam consuming the North African nation.

An interview with Ibrahim Sahad of the National Front for the Salvation of Libya (NFSL) on ABC Australia, features every talking point covered by the mainstream corporate media from over the past week, all with the White House and Washington Monument looming over him in the background.

Sahad echos the Soros/Brzezinski International Crisis Group's calls for
the UNSC to convene and discuss intervening in
Qaddafi's defiance.

Ibrahim Sahad and his NFLS formed the National Conference of the Libyan Opposition (NCLO) in London in 2005. This group specifically went out of its way to appear not to be influenced or supported by the United States. Perhaps to cement this notion, Huffington Post featured documents released by the NCLO in a wikileaks-esque move to pin US support on Qaddafi. Of course, as with all the unrest in the Middle East, as the facts trickle out we find out this is not to avoid confusion, it is to avoid the truth.

The Sahad's NCLO began organizing the February 17th "Day of Rage" right on cue as Egypt fell so the mainstream media apparatus could swing around and put the focus on Libya. Conveniently, the media needs only move from Cairo to Egypt's western border and wait for Sahad's men on the ground to secure them a base of operations, presumably in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi. Qaddafi apparently understands the role of NGOs and the foreign media, which is why they are not in the streets of Libya's cities, and coverage has been admittedly daunting.

It turns out that both the corporate owned news and the US State Department/corporate fundedMovements.org are getting their reports entirely from Sahad's NCLO in Washington, who claims to be in contact with "first hand" reports out of Libya. Other NFSL members including one in Dubai, are also supplying the media with this "first hand" information. These reports have become the basis foraccusations of "genocide", the convening of the UNSC, economic sanctions, threats directed toward Libyan security forces that attempt to quell protesters, and NATO enforced no-fly zones.

The Neo-Con infested National Endowment for Democracy and its army of US funded NGOs recently made an official statement urging the US and EU to confront the Libyan "massacres" in the UNSC and Human Rights Council. This is still amidst reports BBC admits are "impossible to verify," based on information coming from Movements.org and a Washington based Libyan protester leader.

It should also be noted that a Ghonim-esque Libyan blogger is being reported by US corporate funded Movements.org as a "Twitter user to follow." He goes by the name "EnoughGaddafi" and is the webmaster of LibyaFeb17.com. EnoughGaddafi's work can also be found archived on Washington based Ibrahim Sahad's NFSL site (EnoughGaddafi.com was hacked according to Movements.org).

Again we are told the protests are spontaneous, inspired by the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings. Again we are told it is the youth yearning for freedom and "democracy." But when we look behind the curtain, we see yet another old man from Washington pulling the levers, blowing the smoke, and flashing the lights.

If you are religious, pray for the people in the streets of Libya, many of whom may be merely swept up in this cruel hoax. The US and their stooges will only be disheartened if their plot doesn't succeed. The rivers of blood that will flow to ensure that it does is never entered into their calculations.

When your US State Department sponsored "liberation" comes to you, you will hope others elsewhere will stand in solidarity with the truth, not the emotions of an engineered hoax. You will hope others take it upon themselves to speak the truth amongst the deafening din of corporate media propaganda. So spread the word, wake your neighbors up, and most importantly, boycott the corporations whose greed drives this agenda and whose members are planning and carrying it out.

Do it for the Libyans, the Egyptians, the Tunisians, and do it for yourself. The conflagration is consuming the Middle East and North Africa now, it may consume you next.

The Pharaoh will Fall, Oil will Climb, and Wall Street will Win

Eric Blair
Activist Post

Yesterday, oil broke through the $100 mark for the first time since 2008 due to the populist uprising in Arab nations, indicating it's well on its way to new heights. Many financial insiders have predicted oil will go to $150 per barrel and beyond this year. But if $100/bbl was not odd enough given the stagnant (at best) economic environment, what could possibly make it jump another 50%?

The dollar won't drop that significantly over the next year, will it? If it does, calls to drop the petro-dollar as the reserve currency will likely turn to reality.  And surely the global economy is not expected to grow fast enough to warrant a 50% jump for the lifeblood of civilization. It seems clear that demand for oil will stay relatively flat, so only a catastrophic supply problem would justify these increases.

Enter the new supply problem.  A stunning wave of populist protests has swept through Egypt who control the ultra-important Suez Canal.  The Egyptian revolution is displaying powerful solidarity in their struggle to oust longtime autocrat Pharaoh, Hosni Mubarak, for corruption and economic suppression. And it's beginning to look as though Mubarak will eventually be forced out and new leadership will be throned to appease the masses.

However, the uprising is expanding, and is likely to spread deeper into the psyche of the eternally oppressed around the world.  The outcome of this tsunami of activism is uncertain, but stormy waves means it is surf's up for Wall Street.  The civil unrest gives them the perfect excuse to justify what can only be described as outright fraud and manipulation of the oil markets.

Bloomberg reported in 2009 that Citigroup, JP Morgan, and other "Traders" were leasing and buying oil tankers, parking them idle in the ocean, while simultaneously driving up oil futures through their brokerages.  In fact, it was actually difficult to get oil when it was cheap because of this hoarding.  Meanwhile, prices jumped from the low $40s to over $70 per barrel is just a few months.  The near doubling of prices in the summer of 2009 caused Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to introduce legislation to crack down on oil speculation.

Sanders claimed that, "Despite the record supply of oil and reduced demand, prices are going up, not down."  And that because the storage of oil in overseas tankers goes unreported to the federal government, the practice has distorted supplies and led to unnecessarily high prices. Reuters reported:

"The last thing people need now is to be ripped off at the gas pump because speculators on Wall Street -- some of the same people who received the largest taxpayer bailout in U.S. history -- are allowed to jack up oil prices through price manipulation and outright fraud," he said (Sanders).
Sanders' legislation directs the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which oversees futures markets like the New York Mercantile Exchange, "to stop sudden or unreasonable fluctuations or unwarranted changes in prices."
At the time, the Commissioner of the CFTC, Bart Chilton, agreed with Sanders, "I wholeheartedly agree with you that the time to act on these issues is now, and the CFTC should aggressively utilize all available authorities . . . to address these pressing issues."  Although the House overwhelmingly passed a similar bill in 2008, nothing has been done to date -- except of course that the price of oil has gone up 150% since 2009 lows.  Once again, the banks are benefiting from the misery of the masses.

In a recent interview, potential presidential candidate and iconic businessman Donald Trump said if the situation in Arab nations becomes catastrophic enough to break up OPEC's control of oil, he thinks the price would go down due to more open competition. Barring that, he predicts at least $150/bbl like many other analysts.  However, he was wrong to claim that OPEC sets the price of oil, as they just set output levels.  Trump's pals, the Wall Street manipulators, are who actually determines the price -- and he knows that.  Therefore, a break-up of OPEC is only likely to fuel further speculation.

Consequently, banks don't care about finding a quick resolution to the chaos in the Middle East, so long as they can find a way to profit from it. Yet, you can bet that whoever ends up running these unsettled nations will likely be a shill for the establishment like Egypt's protest leader and Globalist puppet, ElBaradei.

The situation in Egypt proves that there are forces at work far greater than governments; greater than genuine fundamentals for oil; and powerful enough to co-opt an unprecedented solidarity movement of a region -- they're called Banksters.

Israel: Jerusalem Won't be Shared

Amy Teibel
Associated Press

JERUSALEM — Israel's leader on Sunday dismissed a call from a key government partner to share the holy city of Jerusalem with the Palestinians, a reminder of the obstacles facing already troubled peacemaking efforts.

Conflicting claims to east Jerusalem lie at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The dispute over the area, home to sensitive Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites, has derailed past peace talks and spilled into violence. Palestinians claim the sector as the capital of their future state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reaffirmation of his intention to hold on to east Jerusalem drew criticism from the Palestinians and was likely to increase friction with the Americans. The White House Mideast envoy is scheduled to arrive this week in another attempt to push peace efforts forward.

Netanyahu's defense minister, Ehud Barak of the centrist Labor Party, called for sharing Jerusalem with the Palestinians. But a government official said Barak's idea does not reflect the government's view.

The Palestinians want to establish their future state in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, lands Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. Israel later annexed east Jerusalem in a move that is not recognized by the international community.

Israel's internal diplomatic flare-up came just days after the U.S. dropped its effort to persuade Israel to reinstate a moratorium on new building states in the West Bank as a way of restarting peace talks.

Instead, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said indirect talks would resume, while insisting that the two sides must now deal with core issues. Those include the status of Jerusalem, as well as borders, settlements and refugees.

Palestinians blasted Israel's rejection of their claim to east Jerusalem.

New Face, Same Imperialism

After all the hope and hype, Obama's foreign policy mirrors the ugliness of the Bush years.

The Age

The election to the presidency of a mixed-race Democrat, vowing to heal America's wounds at home and restore its reputation abroad, was greeted with a wave of ideological euphoria not seen since the days of Kennedy. The shameful interlude of Republican swagger and criminality was over. George Bush and Dick Cheney had broken the continuity of a multilateral American leadership that had served the country well throughout the Cold War and after. Barack Obama would now restore it.

Rarely has self-interested mythology - or well-meaning gullibility - been more quickly exposed. There was no fundamental break in foreign policy between the Bush and Obama regimes. The strategic goals and imperatives of the US imperium remain the same, as do its principal theatres and means of operation.

Obama's line towards Israel would be manifest even before he took office. On December 27, 2008, the Israeli Defence Forces launched an all-out air and ground assault on the population of Gaza. Bombing, burning, killing continued without interruption for 22 days, during which time the president-elect uttered not a syllable of reproof. By pre-arrangement, Tel Aviv called off its blitz a few hours before his inauguration on January 20, 2009, not to spoil the party.
