5 Facts To Take Away From The Tragedy In Newtown

Andrew Criscione
Speak Liberty Now

The recent school shooting in Newtown that killed 20 children and 6 adults is a horrific tragedy, and
there are five very important facts to take away from it.
1.) Gun-free zones are extremely dangerous.
In Switzerland, where many adults carry semi-automatic weapons while in the course of their daily activities,
“the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept.” (1) On the other extreme is Norway,
where guns are very tightly controlled. This enabled a shooter to casually take his time massacring over
70 children at the equivalent of a US Boy Scout camp. In a US Boy Scout camp, firearms are typically
prevalent among adults and older scouts. The shooter wouldn’t have made it very far.
Just a week before the Newtown shooting, a shooting in Oregon was stopped in its tracks by an armed
citizen. A psychopath with a large amount of ammunition was prepared to carry out a massacre. After
he got his first few shots off, though, an armed citizen with a legal gun confronted him. The killer
decided to take his own life quickly rather than risk a painful death in a shootout. (2)
And apart from lone serial killers on a shooting rampage, it’s important to realize that most gun violence
comes from organized crime. In Mexico, where it is very hard for civilians to own weapons, “More
civilians were killed [in 2010] in Ciudad Juarez, the Mexican city across the border from El Paso, Texas,
than were killed in all of Afghanistan.” (3)
When it is against the law to own a firearm, only criminals have firearms, and law-abiding people can’t
prevent a reign of terror.
2.) It is a scientific fact that banning guns does not decrease murder and suicide rates.

What’s Behind America’s Gun Violence

Editor's Note:  Although I disagree with many of Mr. Smith's assertions, I consider the article worthy of consideration.  Please comment below.

Global Research,

There is more than the act of one individual involved in the mass gun killings that take place in America— the most recent being the massacre of 20 young children and seven school workers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14.
The main culprit, of course, is the late killer, Adam Lanza, 20.
But such events occur within a context of shared responsibility for the unparalleled number of mass and individual shooting deaths that take place in the United States every year. This includes the political system and politicians, the National Rifle Association and other gun lobbies, and federal, state and local governments. Each has played an indirect role in the latest and earlier slaughters.
Of these other responsible parties, one is our political system that refuses to strengthen absurdly deficient federal and state restrictions on the possession of various types of arms. Another is the irresponsible politicians who make it relatively easy for criminals, people with mental problems, and those who are unfit to possess weapons for other reasons to accumulate a private arsenal. In recent decades— despite the fact that last year there were over 11,000 murders by firearms in the U.S. and another 20,000 gun deaths from accidents and suicide, not to mention many more injuries — the great majority of American politicians have been too gutless to fight for tougher laws.

Connecticut Shootings What No One Dares Say

Last week 27 Americans were murdered in a shooting spree, 20 of those killed were children. An enormous amount of attention is being focused on this event, even to the point of having the president make emotional speeches about it and visiting the families, and the story has been the top story on the news not just in the United States, but all over the world. Obviously this is an enormous tragedy for the families involved, however there is something very important that's not being said here.

The obvious attack on the 2nd amendment may be the main topic on your mind, but the problem goes much deeper than gun control or any of these other surface issues.
