Fukushima Radiation Fallout Causing Serious Biological Effects on Plants and Animals

Following the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant meltdown, biological samples were obtained only after extensive delays, limiting the information that could be gained about the impacts of that historic disaster. Determined not to repeat the shortcomings of the Chernobyl studies, scientists began gathering biological information only a few months after the disastrous meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan in 2011. Results of these studies are now beginning to reveal serious biological effects of the Fukushima radiation on non-human organisms ranging from plants to butterflies to birds.

A series of articles summarizing these studies has now been published in the Journal of Heredity. These describe widespread impacts, ranging from population declines to genetic damage to responses by the repair mechanisms that help organisms cope with radiation exposure.

"A growing body of empirical results from studies of birds, monkeys, butterflies, and other insects suggests that some species have been significantly impacted by the radioactive releases related to the Fukushima disaster," stated Dr. Timothy Mousseau of the University of South Carolina, lead author of one of the studies.

DOE Plans to Leave Strontium 90 in Groundwater

The Resident

The Department of Energy recently revealed its cleanup plans for F Reactor at the Hanford Site in Washington State: just leave the radioactive contaminants in the groundwater to dissipate and monitor it. For 264 years. The Hanford Advisory Board would like to see a pump system implemented to protect the area's drinking water, but the DOE claims that will be unnecessary - and of course, too expensive.

Researcher says Army scientists secretly sprayed cities with radioactive particles for years

Madison Ruppert, Contributor

According to Lisa Martino-Taylor, a sociologist, the United States military carried out top secret experiments involving the spraying of radioactive particles on residents of St. Louis, Missouri for years.

This is hardly surprising given the fact that the entire United States is currently engaged in a massive human experiment when we already know that the results will be nothing short of horrific. Let’s also not forget that we continue to support the use of dangerous substances and technologies, even though we know that disaster is a certainty.

It is public knowledge that the government sprayed zinc cadmium sulfide particles – which are supposedly harmless – over St. Louis, but Professor Martino-Taylor says that her research indicates a radioactive additive was also mixed in with the compound.

The targets of these experiments were primarily minorities and low-income communities – again, hardly surprising given the U.S. government’s history of conducting brutal tests on disadvantaged populations – who had no clue that they were being subjected to dangerous chemicals from 1953-1954 and 1963-1965.

Martino-Taylor’s research uncovered photographs showing just how these particles were distributed as well as detailed descriptions of how the public was exposed to these substances in the name of keeping America safe.

EPA: New Radiation Highs in Little Rock Milk, Philadelphia Drinking Water

Forbes-Milk from Little Rock and drinking water from Philadelphia contained the highest levels of Iodine-131 from Japan yet detected by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to data released by EPA Saturday.

The Philadelphia sample is below the EPA’s maximum contaminant level (MCL) for iodine-131, but the Little Rock sample is almost three times higher.
Nonetheless, the EPA does not consider the milk dangerous because the MCL is set for long-term exposure, and the iodine-131 from Japan’s Fukushima-Daichi nuclear accident is expected to be temporary and deteriorate rapidly.
The EPA’s MCL for iodine-131 is 3 picoCuries per liter.
The Little Rock milk sample contained 8.9 picoCuries per liter. It was collected on March 30.

TSA Agents Revolt Over Body Scanner Radiation Exposure

TSA Agents Complain Over Body Scanner Radiation Exposure 071210TSA

Steve Watson
Infowars.com
TSA workers are complaining about the amounts of radiation they are being exposed to on a daily basis in the wake of the mass introduction of body scanners to airports around the country.
USA Today reports that TSA agents are unhappy with the fact that they are being kept in the dark by their employers, despite repeated requests for information.
“We don’t think the agency is sharing enough information,” said Milly Rodriguez, occupational health and safety specialist at the American Federation of Government Employees, the union that represents TSA workers.
“Radiation just invokes a lot of fear.” she added.
According to the USA Today report, several TSA employees have expressed their concerns to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
…a TSA employee at an unidentified airport asked CDC in June to examine concerns about radiation exposures from standing near the new full-body X-ray scanners for hours a day. The CDC said it didn’t have authority to do a hazard assessment unless three or more current employees at one location made a joint request, according to a September letter from the CDC to the unnamed worker. The CDC provided the letter to USA TODAY.
Despite claiming that the body scanners and baggage scanners emit safe doses of radiation and are routinely inspected, the TSA has refused to release its radiation inspection records.
Worse still, an independent study by the CDC carried out in 2004, found that some baggage scanners were in violation of federal radiation standards, and were emitting two or three times beyond the agreed safe limit.
A further 2008 CDC report noted that some x-ray machines were missing protective lead curtains or had had safety features disabled by TSA employees with duct tape, paper towels and other materials.
Now there are even more x-ray devices in use, TSA workers’ concerns, as well as recent public backlash, is beginning to force the issue.
This has prompted members of congress to get involved, with a group led by Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass, demanding that the TSA release the documents.
As the USA Today report explains, The TSA is responsible for inspecting the x-ray scanners itself, rather than the FDA, because they are not classed as medical devices.
Following the congressional attention, the TSA has said that it will attempt to release the radiation records to USA Today, but has not indicated when this will be, citing the need to review the records for security reasons.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, the top Republican on a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee over federal workforce issues, has vowed to press the TSA for the documentation.
“It should send some flashing red lights when they won’t allow the public to review that data,” said Chaffetz, who oversaw the passage in the House last year of an amendment to ban “strip-search” imaging at airports.
“You don’t have to look at my wife and 8-year-old daughter naked to secure an airplane,” Chaffetz said at the time.
“You can actually see the sweat on somebody’s back. You can tell the difference between a dime and a nickel. If they can do that, they can see things that quite frankly I don’t think they should be looking at in order to secure a plane,” Chaffetz told the House.
Frankly, more TSA workers should be concerned over the levels of radiation they are being exposed to and are being asked to expose the public to.
Dr Michael Love, who runs an X-ray lab at the department of biophysics and biophysical chemistry at the Johns Hopkins school of medicine recently told AFP that “statistically someone is going to get skin cancer from these X-rays”.
“…we have a situation at the airports where people are so eager to fly that they will risk their lives in this manner,” he added.
John Sedat, a University of California at San Francisco professor of biochemistry and biophysics and member of the National Academy of Sciences tells CNet that the machines have “mutagenic effects” and will increase the risk of cancer. Sedat previously sent a letter to the White House science Czar John P. Holdren, identifying the specific risk the machines pose to children and the elderly.
The letter stated:
“it appears that real independent safety data do not exist… There has not been sufficient review of the intermediate and long-term effects of radiation exposure associated with airport scanners. There is good reason to believe that these scanners will increase the risk of cancer to children and other vulnerable populations.”
The TSA has repeatedly stated that going through the machines is equal to the radiation encountered during just two minutes of a flight. However, this does not take into account that the scanning machines specifically target only the skin and the muscle tissue immediately beneath.
The scanners are similar to C-Scans and fire ionizing radiation at those inside which penetrates a few centimeters into the flesh and reflects off the skin to form a naked body image.
The firing of ionizing radiation at the body effectively “unzips” DNA, according to scientific research by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The research shows that even very low doses of X-ray can delay or prevent cellular repair of damaged DNA, yet pregnant women and children will be subjected to the process as new guidelines including scanners are adopted.
The Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety concluded in their report on the matter that governments must justify the use of the scanners and that a more accurate assessment of the health risks is needed.
Pregnant women and children should not be subject to scanning, according to the report, adding that governments should consider “other techniques to achieve the same end without the use of ionizing radiation.”
“The Committee cited the IAEA’s 1996 Basic Safety Standards agreement, drafted over three decades, that protects people from radiation. Frequent exposure to low doses of radiation can lead to cancer and birth defects, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,”reported Bloomberg.
Scientists at Columbia University also entered the debate recently, warning that the dose emitted by the naked x-ray devices could be up to 20 times higher than originally estimated, likely contributing to an increase in a common type of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma which affects the head and neck.
“If all 800 million people who use airports every year were screened with X-rays then the very small individual risk multiplied by the large number of screened people might imply a potential public health or societal risk. The population risk has the potential to be significant,” said Dr David Brenner, head of Columbia University’s centre for radiological research.
Despite all these warnings, The Department of Homeland Security claims that the scanners are completely safe, pointing to “independent” verification from the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, both federal government bodies.

Video: Big Sis Caught Lying

The Alex Jones Channel
You Tube
November 15, 2010
Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano, now forever known as Big Sis — a reference to George Orwell’s 1984 — has been caught telling some big lies in an attempt to quell an enormous public backlash against the full body scanning technology and invasive pat-down procedures that have been implemented by the TSA in airports nationwide.
In a blatant propaganda piece published by USA Today, Napolitano describes the scanning machines as safe and the pat-downs as “discreet”, in the face of a flood of complaints from scientists, pilots, flight attendants, privacy groups, parents, Muslim groups and everyday passengers, all rebelling against over the top security.
“AIT machines are safe, efficient, and protect passenger privacy.” Napolitano writes in an article in which every single claim she makes can be easily disproved and revealed to be outright lies…. [READ FULL]

Feds deploy mobile X-ray fleet to radiate, scan Americans

Ethan A. Huff
NaturalNews
October 3, 2010
backscatter2.jpg
The encroaching Big Brother nightmare has escalated even further with a recent announcement that the U.S. government has purchased mobile X-ray vans to scan people and vehicles at sporting events, road stops and even at random. The initiative is part of alleged counter-terror efforts that include improving the ability to detect bombs, weapons and other contraband that may potentially be used in a terrorist attack.
The custom-made radiation vans are produced by American Science & Engineering, a Billerica, Mass.-based company that has already sold more than 500 Z Backscatter Vans, or ZBVs, to both U.S. and foreign governments. The radiating technology installed in the vans is the same as that found in full-body airport scanners, which were also fuel for recent controversy over their encroachment of personal freedoms.
“This really trips up the creep factor because it’s one of those things that you sort of intrinsically think the government shouldn’t be doing,” Frederick Lane, author of American Privacy, is cited as saying in a recent Yahoo! News article. “[L]egally, the issue is the boundary between the government’s legitimate security interest and privacy expectations we enjoy in our cars.”
According to the report, U.S. law enforcement officials have already deployed many of these ZBVs in cities across the country, including in a recent operation near Atlanta, Ga., where the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) used vans to scan random vehicles.
Many are concerned not only about the technology’s blatant and unconstitutional invasion of privacy, but also about the health effects of blasting large doses of ionizing radiation at people and vehicles without warrant. Since such activity is technically physical assault, criminal and civil lawsuits against federal and state authorities that engage in it are likely to arise.
To read more about the negative health impacts of ionizing radiation, check out this earlier NaturalNews.com article about airport body scanners:
“Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum of national security…you have to be realistic that this is another way in which the government is capturing information,” Lane went on to say. “I just have some real problems with the idea of even beginning a campaign of rolling surveillance of American citizens, which is what this essentially is.”

Feds Radiating Americans At Internal Checkpoints

Feds Radiating Americans At Internal Checkpoints 250810top
Federal authorities do not concern themselves about the flood of illegal immigrants and drugs crossing the border every day, they’re more worried about radiating American truck drivers at internal checkpoints with mobile scanners that shoot dangerous x-rays through both vehicles and passengers.
As we reported last month, the federal government has acquired hundreds of backscatter x-ray scanners mounted in vans that they are now using to randomly scan vehicles, passengers and homes in complete violation of the 4th amendment and with wanton disregard for any health consequences.
An example of their expanding use was reported by WSBTV yesterday, after federal agents from several agencies, including Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, and the TSA, set up an internal checkpoint on Interstate 20 just west of Atlanta and detained truck drivers for half an hour or more at a “state-owned inspection station” while they were scanned with a bomb detection device.
Officials admitted there was no specific threat that justified the checkpoint, and although it was labeled a “counter-terror operation,” the scans were also being conducted in the name of “safety”.
Watch the video here.
Backscatter x-ray vision devices mounted on trucks are already being deployed inside the United States to scan passing individuals and vehicles in complete violation of the Fourth Amendment. Similar to naked airport body scanners, the devices fire x-rays outwards which are then absorbed by dense objects or the human body. Frequent exposure to low doses of radiation can cause cancer and birth defects, according to a report by the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety.
American Science & Engineering, a company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, has sold many of the devices to U.S. law enforcement agencies, who are already using them on the streets for “security” purposes.
“Without a warrant, the government doesn’t have a right to peer beneath your clothes without probable cause,” points out Marc Rotenberg, executive director of EPIC. “Even airport scans are typically used only as a secondary security measure. If the scans can only be used in exceptional cases in airports, the idea that they can be used routinely on city streets is a very hard argument to make.”
As we have warned from the very beginning, everything you see being rolled out in the airports is eventually designed to hit the streets as Americans become prisoners in their own communities, constantly harassed, scanned and surveilled by an oppressive state.
Mobile scanners for crowds that would be used at football matches and other public events have already been announced, as have proposals to fit lamp posts with CCTV cameras that would X-ray scan passers-by and “undress them” in order to “trap terror suspects”.
Body and vehicle scanners are just one tool authorities plan to implement on a widespread basis as part of our deepening decline into a hi-tech militarized police state.
Homeland Security is already implementing technology to be enforced at “security events” which purportedly reads “malintent” on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The video below explains how “Future Attribute Screening Technology” (FAST) checkpoints will conduct “physiological” and “behavioral” tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals.
The clip shows individuals who attend “security events” being led into trailers before they are interrogated as to whether they are terrorists while lie detector-style computer programs analyze their physiological responses. The subjects are asked about their whereabouts, and if they are attempting to smuggle bombs or recording devices into the “expo,” proving that the technology is intended to be used at public events and not just airports. Individuals who do not satisfy the first lie detector-style test are then asked “additional questions”.
The implementation of ‘Checkpoint USA’, where citizens are routinely stopped, searched and radiated by federal VIPER teams is further evidence of how America is crumbling into a Soviet-style police state where the presumption of innocent until proven guilty is abolished and the 4th amendment eviscerated.
Privacy organizations and civil rights lawyers need to activate immediately to bring lawsuits against the federal government for unleashing this tyranny upon the American people as part of the bid to create a chilling atmosphere that ends all dissent and makes the people fearful of their government as they are made to prove they are not criminals or terrorists on a day to day basis while a high-tech slave pen is constructed around their entire existence.

The Next Stage: Global Naked Body Scanners

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars.com
September 30, 2010
Madame Napolitano of the Ministry of the Fatherland plans to take naked body scanners to the next level. She is urging 190 nations to adopt the machines. It’s all part of a push to counter terrorists who might use international flights for attacks by smuggling explosives through overseas metal detectors, according to USA Today. As should be expected, the poster child for the effort is Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the infamous underwear non-bomber.
napscanner.jpg
The government never sleeps in its effort to zap your kids with dangerous radiation.
“We need to move to the next stage of screening,” said Napolitano, because dimwitted patsies who never seem to pull off a terrorist event “have kind of figured out the magnetometer business.”
“There continues to be a threat stream about taking down a commercial airliner,” Napolitano said, “in part because it was used successfully before and could have a huge impact.”
The government never sleeps in its effort to zap your kids with dangerous radiation. Cancer ten or twenty years down the road is certainly preferable to some al-Qaeda dim bulb escorted to a plane and then setting his skivvies on fire while a mysterious man records the whole event with a video camera.
Former white wash commission members Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton have released a report that warns al-Qaeda is still out there gunning for us nearly a decade after Muslim cave-dwellers made NORAD stand down and mutated the laws of physics in lower Manhattan.
Kean and Hamilton now head the National Security Preparedness Group of the Bipartisan Policy Center, a globalist think tank cooked up by Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell to keep the terror sideshow rolling along. “Electoral politics are partisan – policy should not be,” is the motto of the BPC. Policy, of course, is set by the big boys without direct input of the plebeian masses.
The BPC report authored by Kean and Hamilton and issued earlier this month says al-Qaeda may blow up a jet with a surface-to-air missile — maybe one of those left-over Stingers the CIA gave to the Mujaheddin, later to become al-Qaeda — or they will hit a hotel chain à la Mumbai or other “symbolic targets,” preferably associated with Israel and the Jews.
“The idea that the American people have that this (threat) is fading into the past is just flat wrong,” said Hamilton. His report characterizes the last year as “a watershed in terrorist attacks and plots in the United States,” including the apprehension of hapless Muslims who make the mistake of traveling “overseas for terrorist training” (they visit Pakistan).
Napolitano will now take her effort to sell the world on naked body scanners to the United Nations, or at least its aviation branch. “The nearly 200 nations that make up ICAO will agree Wednesday to improve aviation security through better technology and more sharing of information about terrorist threats, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Secretary General Raymond Benjamin said in an interview,” reports USA Today. “For the first time, nations will say we are globally interconnected, and we pledge to tighten up all of aviation,” added Steve Lott of the International Air Travel Association.
No doubt that will be sweet words to Napolitano’s predecessor, Michael Chertoff, who now shucks the backscatter monstrosities.
The fizzle pants affair was the turning point in the effort to force this technology on people around the world. Since December, the U.S., Netherlands, Canada and the United Kingdom began wide-scale installation of body scanners. Other countries have balked at installing them due to the cost and outrage over the obscenity of the things, but they may get with the program after the next orchestrated terror attack that now seems to be coming together.
