Google gives new meaning to “Orwellian” - Becomes Ministry of Truth

Jon Rappoport

“…if all records told the same tale — then the lie passed into history and became truth.” (1984, George Orwell)

The New Scientist has the stunning story (2/28/15, “Google wants to rank websites based on facts not links,” by Hal Hodson):

“THE internet is stuffed with garbage. Anti-vaccination websites make the front page of Google, and fact-free ‘news’ stories spread like wildfire. Google has devised a fix – rank websites according to their truthfulness.”

Great idea, right?

Sure it is.

The author of the article lets the cat out of the bag right away with his comment about “anti-vaccination” websites.

Orwellian State? Don’t worry – Big Sis says the DHS is not “going willy-nilly and using any kind of data that we can gather”

Daisy Luther

We can all rest a little easier now.  Janet Napolitano, head of the Department of Homeland Gestapo Security has said that fears over extreme government surveillance are overblown. There is no Orwellian state, no extreme surveillance, and we can all go back to watching Dancing with the Stars now.

I think people have gotten the idea that there’s an Orwellian state out there that somehow we’re operating in. That’s far from the case… There are lots of protections built into the system… No one should believe that we are simply going willy-nilly and using any kind of data that we can gather… I think we need to do a better job of explaining to the American people exactly what is kept, what are the real restrictions on how—I’m just talking now for DHS, Department of Homeland Security–how we use it, how long we can keep it, how we share it, all those thing.” (source)

Can Obama say 9 Orwellian lies in 3 Afghanistan speech sentences? Yes, he can!

Upon US public critical mass recognition of the “emperor has no clothes” obvious facts that current US wars are not even close to lawful, President Obama will be a leader among an oligarchy of War Criminals that go back several Administrations.

Until such time, Americans have the opportunity for unique heroism, intellectual integrity, and public service to explain, document, and prove that speeches such as Mr. Obama’s are tragic-comic Orwellian lies. The tragedy is the millions killed directly by unlawful war lies and indirectly by lies that allow a million children’s deaths every month from preventable poverty, the billions made to live in misery, and the trillions of our dollars looted.

Most people are unaware of the larger picture developing over the past seven or eight decades, or have been willing to ignore it. This still-developing image portrays matters requiring knowledge of world history, a degree of self-education and a global perspective to recognize and decipher.

The remarkable change still underway is a complete militarization of the United States, if not also the rest of the world. Today, the most disturbing sign of this take-over of all of the civilian commons by the military, at least in the U.S., comes in the form of a new, or reinvigorated, Department of War.

Our de facto Department of War, was known as our War Department from 1789 until it was reconstituted on September 18, 1947 in response to international terms set forth by the Geneva Convention accords. Wars of aggression and conquest were outlawed by those international agreements. Only wars to defend a nation’s borders were allowed. In 1948, with our agreeing to the terms of these accords, our Department of War was converted to a reconfigured Department of Defense and its focus changed… until now.

An Analogy of China as the United States Clearly Shows U.S. Lies for War with Iran

I wrote an analogy in 2009 of what the world would look like to Americans if the relationship of the US to Iran were switched to the US having Iran’s position and China having the US position. I’m re-printing the article below to help Americans understand the Orwellian nature of US current wars and threats for expanded war to mass-murder Iranians. This also occurs as the US actively kills Libyans and Pakistanis (and here).

What we know for sure by the objective facts that anyone can verify: US political and corporate media “leadership” lies about alleged “reasons” for war with Iran (my most recent article on this topic here, with multiple links): specifically:
  1. Iran’s president never physically threatened Israel.
  2. All of Iran’s nuclear material is fully accounted for peaceful and legal use for energy and medicine
The US completely lied for its unlawful attack and invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. We now know from our own government’s disclosure of the evidence that all “reasons” for war were known lies.

Current status for US war with Iran is that the same lying US government now claims from its laughable conflicting stories about the alleged extrajudicial assassination of Osama bin Laden that Iran holds some responsibility (and here) for the US’ also laughable and conflicting explanation of what happened on 9/11 (here for explanation and multiple documentation).

Here is my article of two years ago:

Was Osama SEAL Team Eliminated After Their Raid?

Armed and dangerous.  SEAL team reportedly killed
in helicopter fire immediately after raid.
Paul Craig Roberts
Infowars

In a sensational and explosive TV report, the Pakistani News Agency has provided a live interview with an eye witness to the US attack on the alleged compound of Osama bin Laden. The eye witness, Mohammad Bashir, describes the event as it unfolded. Of the three helicopters, “there was only one that landed the men and came back to pick them up, but as he [the helicopter] was picking them up, it blew away and caught fire.” The witness says that there were no survivors, just dead bodies and pieces of bodies everywhere. “We saw the helicopter burning, we saw the dead bodies, then everything was removed and now there is nothing.”

I always wondered how a helicopter could crash, as the White House reported, without at least producing injuries. Yet, in the original White House story, the SEALs not only survived a 40-minute firefight with al Qaeda, “the most highly trained, most dangerous, most vicious killers on the planet,” without a scratch, but also survived a helicopter crash without a scratch.

Bill Clinton Calls For Internet ‘Ministry of Truth’

Despite couching his idea in fluffy, friendly, democratic rhetoric, Clinton is advocating the creation of a Communist Chinese-style state run media outlet

Mr Bill “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” Clinton, a man who knowingly lied to the nation on live television at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, has called for the creation of an Internet ‘ministry of truth’ style organization that would be run by the federal government or the UN to address “misinformation and rumors floating on the Internet.”

Couching the idea in the kind of doublespeak rhetoric that would make George Orwell roll in his grave, Clinton said that the agency would have to be “independent” and “transparent,” but that it would be created and run by the federal government – a complete oxymoron.

Big Brother Gov't Seeks to Tax and Track All Drivers

"Oh, say can you see...the land of the fee, and home of the slave?" Americansreally better wake up before it's too late. Perhaps it already is.

Today Pete Kasperowicz of The Hill reported that the Obama administration, following a March Congressional Budget Office report, has "floated" the idea of taxing drivers per mile.  Kasperowicz writes:

The plan is a part of the administration’s 'Transportation Opportunities Act,' an undated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.
...Among other things, CBO suggested that a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations. (my emphasis)
If this doesn't alert you to the direction of America, I don't know what will. The government wants to tax Americans for simply leaving their homes, and track their cars via mandatory GPS chips.

Our Time of Universal Deceit Needs An Orwell

Paul Craig Roberts
VDare

If we were to be blessed with a 21st century George Orwell, he would coin a new “speak” to apply to “support the troops.” Would he call this “Deceptive Speak”?  Or would he be more clever?

The words certainly deserve an Orwellian name.  The catch-phrase was rolled out the minute the war started, which makes one wonder about its public relations origin.  Who can oppose supporting the troops, at least before we learned from WikiLeaks and Abu Ghraib of the intentional killing of civilians and torturing of whoever happened to be rounded up in the various sweeps? All for the fun and games of it.

“Support the troops” originated in the public relations department of the military/security complex. What “support the troops” really means is to support the profits of the armaments industry and the neoconservative ideology of US world hegemony.

“Support the troops” is a clever PR slogan that causes Americans to turn a blind eye to the brutal exploitation of our soldiers and military families for profit and for an evil ideology.

Our soldiers and military families are paying for the Bush/Cheney/Obama/neocon wars with lives, limbs, post-traumatic stress, suicides, broken marriages, children without fathers, wives without husbands, and parents without sons and daughters.

“Support the troops” is one of the most cruel hoaxes in human history, and yet the vast majority of the population has fallen for it. “War Is Peace.”

When a people are so gullible, it is little wonder that they can be marched off to unaffordable open-ended wars based on nothing but lies, deceptions, and fabrications.

America produces an endless supply of material for a new Orwell.  Imagine what an Orwell could do with Hillary’s recent speech on America’s firm commitment to dissent and the First Amendment. CIA veteran Ray McGovern stood with his back to Hillary in an act of dissent from the Obama administration’s policy of coercing Internet companies into helping to eliminate WikiLeaks as a source of information.  McGovern was dragged beaten and bloody from the room, while Hillary continued praising America’s commitment to dissent and freedom of information.

To capture this level of hypocrisy requires a George Orwell. “Dissent Is Subversion.”

“Globalism” is another doctrine that needs Orwell’s illumination. Globalism, which presidents since Clinton have told us we can’t do without, enriches transnational corporations and turns workers into serfs who cannot earn enough to pay their bills.  “Poverty Is Wealth.”

The police state measures that accompany the fake “war on terror” subject Americans to far more danger and insecurity than could ever be realized from terrorists other than those of the state itself.   “Captivity Is Freedom.”

In his marvelous book, The Emotional Lives Of Animals, Marc Bekoff describes the devastating impact on animals of being kept in small cages.  US soldier Bradley Manning has been kept illegally in an even smaller cage for eight months with no end in sight. At his press conference on March 11, one reporter found the courage to ask President Obama about the conditions of Manning’s confinement.  The great and noble president of the United States replied that he had asked the Pentagon and was assured that the conditions of Manning’s confinement “are appropriate and are meeting our basic standards.” Only a George Orwell could do justice to an American president who thinks that keeping a US soldier in conditions worst than those that drive caged animals insane is “appropriate.”

The US government, which is profligate in its wars, profligate in tax cuts and bailouts for the mega-rich, and profligate in giving unlimited monopoly power to unregulated  financial institutions, blames the resulting financial crisis on “handouts” to the poor and “entitlements” to the elderly.  Such deception needs more than exposure.  It cries out for a 21st century Orwell.

Paul Craig Roberts  was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during President Reagan’s first term.  He was Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal.

Great American War Machine Rolls On Under Obama

Sherwood Ross
Blacklisted News

Under President Barack Obama's new budget for fiscal year 2012, the Great American War Machine just rolls on and on. “As it is, we're pumping...money into sustaining a fighting force that's orders of magnitude larger than anything retained by any other country,” observes Ezra Klein of The Washington Post February 14th. So when Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned that major cuts in military spending would be “catastrophic,” Obama settled for chopping $78 billion in cosmetic cuts Gates recommended over the next five years, Klein wrote, adding, “I bet there are more than a few Cabinet secretaries who wish they had that kind of power over the president's recommendations.” Some observers, by the way, think the Pentagon is, in fact, already running the show. Chalmers Johnson wrote in “Blowback”(Metropolitan/Owl) that the Pentagon is “close to being beyond civilian control; that it “more or less sets its own agenda” and that it “monopolizes the formulation and conduct of American foreign policy.”

So in FY 2012 the Pentagon will just have to struggle along with $719 billion while the president calls for a five-year freeze on “non-security” discretionary spending such as---in the words of former Labor Secretary Robert Reich---”programs the poor and working class depend on---assistance with home heating, community services, college loans, and the like.” Mr. Obama will get a lot of help from the GOP, which, of course, will not rein in spending for unjust wars but in a fit of what AFL-CIO's Manny Herrmann calls “budget insanity” plans to chop up Head Start, Pell Grants, food and job safety inspections, eliminate “hundreds of thousands of middle-class jobs,” cut investment in infrastructure, and even cut the money needed “to send out Social Security checks.” Herrmann might have added Obama also seeks to slash nearly half the Federal funds to help low-income families heat their homes.

Explaining the Acts of Madmen...

Milo Nickels, Contributing Writer
Activist Post

Watch this video where the director of the Southern Poverty Law Center blames the Giffords shooting on "right wing political beliefs:"

Basically, they ignore the real reason that Jared Loughner became violent (i.e. mental illness), and blame it all on his political views.  This is simply irresponsible.  Would it be fair of me to say that supporting Obama causes people to become criminals?  How about after I see the following mug shots?

Just because we know someone's political views doesn't mean that we can use those views as an explanation for their actions.  Nor can we use those political views to label those people as being dangerous, or a potential threat.  Jared Loughner did not shoot Gabrielle Giffords because of his right wing views anymore than the criminals in these mugshots committed their crimes because they support Obama.  When we start calling people crazy or dangerous because of their legitimate political views, we aren't far from making those views illegal.

Orwell spoke of thought police in his famous book 1984.  Although we may not officially have thought police (yet) in America, the media is certainly pushing an agenda and teaching us how to think.  Through this type of indoctrination, many people will start believing that "right wing" views are dangerous, and start treating people with those views differently -- calling in "tips," conducting surveillance, forcing them into counseling, and costing them their jobs.  We won't need "thought police," because the mainstream media is teaching us to police each other's thoughts.  These types of stories, and irresponsible publications such as the MIAC report, can only lead to wild accusations against free-thinking people.

This type of rhetoric, whereby we blame the acts of madmen on views they may share with sane people, sends us down a dangerous path of the government and mass media telling us what we are allowed to believe -- lest we be labeled "threats."

Milo Nickels began blogging and cartooning about politics in the year 2000.  After achieving some notoriety at that time, Milo took a break.  Now, Milo has launched a new website, Five Cent Revolution where he continues to write about political issues.  In particular, Milo focuses on constitutionalism, critiques of modern liberalism and progressivism, and defends individual liberty above all else.  Milo wants the government out of our wallets, out of our business, and out of our lives to the greatest extent possible.

Boycott Wal-Mart If You Want to Help Save America From Big Brother

John Galt
Activist Post

America is in trouble on so many fronts that it is sometimes difficult to know where to begin.  The forces of tyranny are increasing the pressure exponentially as they head toward their endgame of complete control over society.  This has become most obvious with the directives of Homeland Security which, by its very name, has Orwell rolling in his grave.

History shows that governments will continue to push until there is push back.  Americans did push back in a small way to demonstrate their disgust with airport groping and radiation, but have a long way to go to make their voices heard en masse.  Just such an opportunity may have arisen with the most blatant demonstration of fascism in modern times: telescreens installed by a private company broadcasting government directives with orders to contact employees of said private company to initiate investigation.  I can think of multiple reasons to boycott Wal-Mart which are associated with its horrendous disregard for the consequence of the slave goods it pushes, as well as the slave wages that it pays, including guiding their employees into Medicaid programs as their healthcare program.  However, this latest abomination surpasses even those, as it puts the final nail in the coffin that will seal the Constitution well underground for the foreseeable future if it is not resisted.

America, unfortunately, is still defined by its consumerism . . . and the average American is still defined by their lack of discernment in what they purchase.  Nothing represents the American consumer so well as the mega-corporation Wal-Mart.  It is here, then, that the average American can display their power.  If you don't care about slave labor in far-off lands working 'till they drop so that you can buy clothes and electronics at pennies on the real value; if you don't care about Wal-Mart's discrimination against women; if you don't care about slave wages and healthcare waivers, then at least care about the foundation freedom itself.

It is no mystery why Homeland Security has chosen Wal-Mart as its testing ground for its 1984-style takeover of America and the Constitution: they know their agenda doesn't have much more time left to get installed before there is open rebellion.  So, they have chosen America's largest employer and largest consumer goods store to set the precedent for what the average American will put up with.

We are better than this:  call Wal-Mart and tell them that what they are doing is textbook fascism; they have no authority to do the bidding of government.  We must understand that even if our votes no longer count in the left-right paradigm of nonsensical political discourse, we can still vote with our wallets.  In an economy that is disintegrating further by the second, the consumer is still a sought-after commodity, so show your worth and vote NO to Wal-Mart and the DHS takeover of America.

There are many boycott sites which have been focused on Wal-Mart for years due to its multitude of abuses.  A simple search of "Boycott Wal-Mart" will reveal a list.  Please contact us with the sites you feel are most effective so that we can develop a list of resources.

Lies Across America

“Every single empire, in its official discourse, has said that it is not like all the others, that its circumstances are special, that it has a mission to enlighten, civilize, bring order and democracy, and that it uses force only as a last resort.” – Edward Said

Jim Quinn
The Burning Platform

The increasingly fragile American Empire has been built on a foundation of lies. Lies we tell ourselves and Big lies spread by our government. The shit is so deep you can stir it with a stick. As we enter another holiday season the mainstream corporate mass media will relegate you to the status of consumer. This is a disgusting term that dehumanizes all Americans. You are nothing but a blot to corporations and advertisers selling you electronic doohickeys that they convince you that you must have. Propaganda about consumer spending being essential to an economic recovery is spewed from 52 inch HDTVs across the land, 24 hours per day, by CNBC, Fox, CBS and the other corporate owned media that generate billions in profits from selling advertising to corporations schilling material goods to thoughtless American consumers.  Aldous Huxley had it figured out decades ago:

“Thanks to compulsory education and the rotary press, the propagandist has been able, for many years past, to convey his messages to virtually every adult in every civilized country.”

Americans were given the mental capacity to critically think. Sadly, a vast swath of Americans has chosen ignorance over knowledge. Make no mistake about it, ignorance is a choice. It doesn’t matter whether you are poor or rich. Books are available to everyone in this country. Sob stories about the disadvantaged poor having no access to education are nothing but liberal spin to keep the masses controlled. There are 122,500 libraries in this country. If you want to read a book, you can read a book. The internet puts knowledge at the fingertips of every citizen. Becoming educated requires hard work, sacrifice, curiosity, and a desire to learn. Aldous Huxley describes the American choice to be ignorant:

“Most ignorance is vincible ignorance. We don’t know because we don’t want to know.”

It is a choice to play Call of Duty on your PS3 rather than reading Shakespeare. It is a choice to stand on a street corner looking for trouble rather than reading Hemingway. It is a choice to spend Black Friday in malls fighting other robotic consumers for iSomethings, the latest innovative, advanced TVs, flashy Rolexes, and ostentatious Coach bags rather than spending the day reading Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman, a brilliant Pulitzer Prize winning history of the outset of World War I, which would provide insight into what could happen on the Korean Peninsula. It is a choice to watch 6 hours per day of Dancing With the Stars, American Idol, Brainless Housewives of Everywhere, or CSI of Anywhere rather than reading Orwell or Huxley and discovering that their dystopian warnings have come true.

RT Crew Arrested in US filming at ‘School of Assassins’

Editor's Note: Interesting that many people compare the American police state to those in Third World countries.  Where did those Third World countries get their training?  Answer: The School of The Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia in the good ol' US of A.  Naturally, after being revealed for the torture and dictator training center that it is, it has been renamed to The Western Hemisphere Institute For Security Cooperation.
YouTube -- RT

An RT crew has been detained in the U.S. as they filmed a rally near a military training academy dubbed by critics the 'School of Assassins'. A cameraman and a correspondent have been taken into custody in the state of Georgia, along with a number of activists.

Orwellian DoubleThink: Tyranny is Safety

Orwellian DoubleThink Series, Part 6

One is never safe living under a tyrannical form of government.  If we have learned anything from George Orwell's work, it is to recognize the DoubleThink that tyrannical minds employ in order to make us believe that we would somehow be safer living in a world of total control, as opposed to complete freedom.  The Orwellian world is one where a government bureaucracy legislates more and more centralized power, as their agents descend on every facet of our lives to enforce constant penalties meted out at their discretion.  The main strategy is to be sure citizens are always in violation of something.

Just this past month a wave of freedom-smashing legislation has washed over the planet, led by the United States.  It seems that every new bill which has been introduced is an abject assault on freedom, yet always contains a reference to keeping us safe.

Here are two of the most significant tyrannical bills which could dramatically reshape the way we live.  These are coming to vote, and must be immediately opposed by anyone who wishes to live in a free society:

Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act -- S. 3804  This could be the key legislation that, if passed, will end free speech on the Internet.  Sponsored by Patrick Leahy, this would allow the U.S. Department of Justice the power to block sites in the U.S., or block overseas sites by court order. The “Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act” would empower the U.S. Department of Justice to shut down, or block access to, websites found to be dedicated to infringing activities. Oppose this bill here.

Food Safety Modernization Act -- S. 510  Some have demonized the bill as ultimate food fascism where the FDA will micromanage even small farms and co-ops to the point where it will become illegal to grow, share, trade or sell homegrown food.  One thing is for sure, S.510 gives more power to the corrupt FDA to regulate our food.  And there is renewed interest in the Senate to pass this bill after the recent massive egg and meat recalls due to salmonella and E. coli outbreaks. Oppose this bill here.

These two proposals are among many that should be of concern not only to U.S. residents, but to the global population.  Global corporations are working hand in hand with governments worldwide to fulfill their modern Orwellian agenda of full spectrum dominance bylegislating their way to tyranny.
