The New Slavery: Pigs are Tigers and Farmers are Felons

In "A Critical Mass for Real Food," Anim Steel began with "The old logic of the slave plantation is still the logic of our industrial food system, 500 years in the making."
The idea that a slave mentality is still woven into production of food showed up as well in an articlereferencing the KKK. It describes the similarity between grossly discriminatory laws that were used to remove black voting rights (poll taxes and literacy tests) and the current discriminatory laws that are crushing small food producers (exorbitant certification costs, and irrelevant yet intentionally impossible to achieve food safety standards), and calling the food movement the most significant civil rights (and human rights) movement in history.
Using this template of slavery allows the public to recognize the extreme and corrupt measures being taken to remove livestock producers markets, leaving them no means to sell their products other than through the big corporate meat packers, and then at a pittance, reducing independent (free) producers to contract farmers, or tenant famers, on their own land.
The current system is without question working to break the back of free farming and ranching. But full-blown slavery* already exists for industrial food animals. Recognizing that reality can help explain a great deal else.

Turning Crops, Animals And Even Babies Into Genetic Monsters - What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

The greatest environmental threat that we are facing is genetic modification. All over the globe, scientists are treating the fabric of life as if it was a playground where anything goes. Behind closed doors, scientists all over the planet are creating some of the most freakish and most bizarre monsters that you could possible imagine, and very few people seem concerned about it. But the truth is that messing with the building blocks of life is going to have some very serious consequences.
Scientists claim that they are making our crops stronger, more productive and less vulnerable to insects. Scientists claim that they can alter our animals so that they are more "useful" to us. Scientists claim that genetic modification is only going to "enhance" humanity. But what if something goes seriously wrong?
For example, what if we learn that eating genetically modified food is really, really bad for us? Well, at this point more than 70 percent of the processed foods sold in the United States contain at least one ingredient that has been genetically modified. It would be kind of hard to go back now. We have rushed ahead and have created hordes of freakish genetic monsters without ever seriously considering the consequences. Someday, future generations may look back on us and wonder how we could have ever been so incredibly foolish.

Roundup: Birth Defects Caused By World's Top-Selling Weedkiller, Scientists Say

WASHINGTON -- The chemical at the heart of the planet’s most widely used herbicide -- Roundup weedkiller, used in farms and gardens across the U.S. -- is coming under more intense scrutiny following the release of a new report calling for a heightened regulatory response around its use.
Critics have argued for decades that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup and other herbicides used around the globe, poses a serious threat to public health. Industry regulators, however, appear to have consistently overlooked their concerns.
A comprehensive review of existing data released this month by Earth Open Source, an organization that uses open-source collaboration to advance sustainable food production, suggests that industry regulators in Europe have known for years that glyphosate, originally introduced by American agricultural biotechnology giant Monsanto in 1976, causes birth defects in the embryos of laboratory animals.

Genetically Engineered Salmon's Empty Promises
It's not going to feed more people, be cheaper, or cleaner. So what's it about? A power grab.

For those who follow the theater of food politics, particularly the underwater portion of the drama, AquaBounty's AquAdvantage genetically engineered salmon has played something of leading role for two decades, dating back to the 1990s when the fish was first conceived. The AquAdvantage salmon, in case you haven't heard about it, is an Atlantic salmon with a (much larger) Chinook salmon growth gene inserted into its DNA. This is coupled with a promoter from a third fish, an ocean pout, that keeps that growth gene more or less permanently in the "on" position. This makes for a fish that grows faster than an unmodified salmon—something which its creators hail as a key to providing more fish for the world and easing the crisis in over-fishing.
I have long opposed the AquAdvantage salmon, taking pretty familiar positions that any member of the local/organic/wild food community would recognize: Positions that include the fear that the fish will escape and contaminate wild populations of salmon, and that the fish requires much wasteful transport since it would be cloned in Canada, grown in Panama and then flown back to the U.S. for consumption. But at a recent lecture when I was laying out these old chestnuts, it suddenly occurred to me that the non-fishy public might be missing one monumental fact about the AquAdvantage salmon, with all its attendant risks:

The Future Is Here

The Animal Liberation Front asks the question “Would global veganism ensure a cruelty-free world?” They answer in the negative but then go on to explain that life as a state of Nature is no kinder than an act of barbarous abuse by Man.
Talking over most anyone’s head but sounding very authoritative, ALF tells us “…the Hedonistic Imperative argues that the only long-term way to abolish the ghastliness of suffering on a planetary scale is to eradicate our biological roots. This can be done only by using genetic-engineering and nanotechnology. This major transition in the evolution of life will replace the DNA-driven pain of our evolutionary past.”
There they have told you what they are going to do. What they mean is that by tampering with your DNA and your brain, you will forever walk around looking like one of those big yellow smiley faces. I don’t like problems in my life any more than the next person, but without the downs, how will we ever recognize the ups? Don’t smile agreeably, this is serious stuff. Let me continue and you’ll understand.
“Some people who care deeply about animals are still shocked at the implications of such an ambitious species-project. Many animal-lovers would oppose the loss, for instance, of the symbolically-charged big predators... Indeed to anyone of a humanistic or spirituo-religious disposition, (they say this like it is a bad thing) the blueprint to put an end to the primeval DNA regime might seem the vision of a soulless technocrat. The much advertised “Death of God” shouldn’t spell the loss of paradise, too; and there is only one scientifically literate way its promise is ever going to be realized.”
High brows love talking like that but having been educated by them, allow me to again translate. What they are saying is that they are going to take over all of humanity and decide which species is allowed to survive and which do not. The ones that survive will not survive intact. They will be genetically altered. How you might ask? I did. If I am going to have my brain or my DNA altered, or that of my grandchildren, then I want to know how and why. Here is what the ALF says about that.
“For just as the smallpox virus was systematically hunted down to extinction, so the precise molecular signature(s) of aversive experience and its predisposing genes can predictably be hunted down and wiped out as well. The systematic application of nanotechnology, self-reproducing micro-miniaturized robots armed with supercomputer processing power, and ultra-sophisticated genetic engineering, perhaps using retro-viral vectors, will assure the eradication of the root of all evil in its naturalistic guise.”
Sounds like a science fiction movie plot but what they are planning to do is to put a supercomputer robot chip (microchip) in your brain to control your DNA. This is already possible. It would alter your personality; eradicate all aggression. Now, before you say that is good, think about it. If you had no aggression whatsoever, you couldn’t stand up for what is right. You would never argue, let alone fight back against such things as I am explaining to you here and now. We would all be obedient smiley faces. In other words, they are going to alter your personality to suit their purposes and once it begins, there will be no way to stop it.
Is this what you want for your children? Altering human DNA through genetic engineering must be faced and stopped now before we find ourselves in a situation that we can’t correct. If you don’t take them seriously, read the next part of ALF’s material.
“In the future, the life-forms which exist on the planet will be there purely because we allow them to exist or we choose to create them. Increasingly, we are able to configure the matter and energy of the world in any way we so desire consistent with the laws of physics. So the moral and practical question arises: what other organisms, and therefore what other modes of experience, are we going either to create or retain “in the wild” outside the gene-banks and computer software libraries...”
Now I want you to think hard about this last statement by ALF. When was the last time the Government asked you, yes YOU, anything? Who do you suppose is the “we” they are talking about? Are they going to come to you and say, “Mr./Mrs. Jones, do you like elephants? Do you want to keep them on this planet?” I don’t think so. You know who will make those choices. And they will not only choose what you will be, worst yet, they can decide IF you will be.
NO MORE SEX IN THE PERFECT FUTURE
“... the elimination of such evolutionary relics as the ageing process will make any form of (post-) human reproduction on earth-whether sexual or clonal- will be a rare and momentous event; it’s likely designer post-human babies will be meticulously pre-planed. The notion that ALL reproductive decisions will be socially regulated in a post-ageing world is abhorrent to one’s libertarian instincts; but if they weren’t regulated, then the earth would soon simply exceed its carrying capacity …If reproduction on earth does cease to be a personal affair and becomes a (democratically accountable) state-sanctioned choice, then a major shift in the character of typically adaptive behavioral traits will inevitably occur…”
Although that was deliberately written to be hard for you to read – unless you are one of them, schooled in that kind of thought - I hope that you do understand that they plan to take the right to have sex away from you. It will forever be illegal to have sex. They will create our perfect blue eyed, blond haired, strong, intelligent babies. Does that sound familiar? It should! That is just what Hitler tried to do. Create the perfect race.
This is not science fiction. ALF and ELF are tax exempt entities created for a purpose beyond our comprehension. Now it is up to you. Are you going to just sit by and let this happen?
Will you allow them to implant microchips into you or your children? We have been cleverly conditioned to accept microchips in our pets. Next it will be your children or your grandfather with Alzheimer’s. A benign microchip will protect him from wandering away and getting lost. It will enable authorities to track your kidnapped child. First the animals, then us. Nanotechnology is here. So is genetic engineering. Today is the future.
“So, God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…” Genesis 1:27, 28, 31.
I do not think ELF’s plans fit in with what God meant, do you?

Microchipping, nanotechnology and genetic engineering in the hands of ALF and ELF is as deadly to us as the “ink-bomb” terrorists from Yemen.
The Animal Liberation Front, along with their comrades, the Environmental Liberation Front, now seek to destroy us genetically. ELF is #1 on the FBI’s Domestic Terrorist list. Are you, as an animal lover, watching these terrorists?
You should be. Like the “animal rights” movement, they were created to destroy our American way of life. More slowly than a terrorist bomb, but just as effectively chipping away at our Liberties and ultimately, our genetic code. I am moved by the following excerpt from the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) website: Jewish writer Hanna Arendt once wrote of the ‘banality of evil’ “most of the Nazi bureaucrats who actually organized the human holocaust were not sadistic psychopaths in the usual sense of the term. Many were devoted husbands, loving fathers and cultivated family men. They were motivated by a distorted sense of duty rather than a relish for bloodshed or suffering for its own sake…”
This is said by a member of the ALF as though it would excuse the participation of these individuals in the extinction of millions of Jewish people. Excuse me, does that mean if I am a good mother it will excuse me if I commit atrocities? Does that mean that we are supposed to ignore the act, because the perpetrator is a good person sometimes?

70% of World's Raw Chocolate Soon To Be Genetically Modified

With the intention of flooding 70% of the global cocoa supply with genetically modified (GMO) cocoa tree hybrids, a collaboration involving Mars, USDA and IBM is accelerating this process.
With primary funding from US chocolate producer Mars, the partnership includes scientists based at the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the US Department of Agriculture and Science as well as researchers working at IBM’s Thomas J Watson Research Center.
The scientists are determined to finalize gene sequencing of the cocoa genome which they say will "benefit" the chocolate industry and cocoa growers in West Africa where 70 percent of the world's cocoa is produced, and in other tropical zones.
According to the global head of plant science and research at the confectionery firm, Howard-Yana Shapiro, the sequence is of great importance.

This is a clip from the French documentary "The World According to Monsanto
." It summarizes the history of Agent Orange, a toxic herbicide produced by Monsanto, Dow Chemical, and other companies. It was sprayed extensively during the Vietnam War, leading to a horrific variety of adverse health effects. Monsanto conducted deliberately flawed and coercive studies to "prove" that Agent Orange was safe, causing many Vietnam veterans to be denied sufficient health benefits. (Time: 4:41)In the late 1990's, Monsanto changed its focus from chemicals like Agent Orange to biotechnology. It now indirectly controls approximately 60% of the world food supply. Monsanto insists that its genetically modified crops are safe.

Locally acquired case of dengue fever turns up in Miami

The first locally acquired case of dengue fever in Miami-Dade County in more than 50 years was confirmed Thursday by health officials. They warned people to take precautions against the mosquitoes that carry it.
"This is a big deal," said Lillian Rivera, administrator of the Miami-Dade Health Department.
"We have not had a locally acquired case of dengue fever since the 1950s,'' said Dr. Fermin Leguen, the department's chief epidemiologist.
The victim, described only as a man who had not traveled outside Miami-Dade County for more than two weeks, was briefly hospitalized but has fully recovered, Rivera said. His case was confirmed by laboratory tests.
Health officials said they don't know where the man acquired the disease. It was a different strain from the one that has caused 57 locally acquired cases in Key West and one in Broward County.

Mutant Mosquitoes Released by Scientists, Environmentalists Say Experiment May Backfire

LONDON — Scientists have released genetically modified mosquitoes in an experiment to fight dengue fever in the Cayman Islands, British experts said Thursday.
It is the first time genetically altered mosquitoes have been set loose in the wild, after years of laboratory experiments and hypothetical calculations. But while scientists believe the trial could lead to a breakthrough in stopping the disease, critics argue the mutant mosquitoes might wreak havoc on the environment.
"This test in the Cayman Islands could be a big step forward," said Andrew Read, a professor of biology and entomology at Pennsylvania State University, who was not involved in the project. "Anything that could selectively remove insects transmitting really nasty diseases would be very helpful," he said.
Dengue is a potentially fatal mosquito-borne disease that can cause fever, muscle and joint pain, and hemorrhagic bleeding. More than 2.5 billion people are at risk and the World Health Organization estimates there are at least 50 million cases every year. There is no treatment or vaccine.
Unlike malaria, which is also spread by mosquitoes, dengue outbreaks are unpredictable and bed nets are of limited use because dengue-spreading mosquitoes also bite during the day.
Researchers at Oxitec Limited, an Oxford-based company, created sterile male mosquitoes by manipulating the insects' DNA. Scientists in the Cayman Islands released 3 million mutant male mosquitoes to mate with wild female mosquitoes of the same species. That meant they wouldn't be able to produce any offspring and lower the population. Only female mosquitoes bite humans and spread diseases.
From May to October, scientists released batches of genetically mutated male mosquitoes in cages three times a week in a 40-acre (16-hectare) area. By August, mosquito numbers in that region dropped by 80 percent compared with a neighboring area where no sterile male mosquitoes were released.
Luke Alphey, Oxitec's chief scientific officer, said with such a small area, it would have been very difficult to detect a drop in dengue cases. But their modeling estimates suggested an 80 percent reduction in mosquitoes should result in fewer dengue infections.
