Ron Paul’s Radical Vision
The libertarian Republican warns of impending disaster, reaches out to the left, and prepares for a presidential campaign.
Brian Doherty, Senior Editor
Reason
Ron Paul by now is well-known for many things, yet he remains an underrated retail politician. Paul has the extraordinary distinction of having won a seat in Congress as a nonincumbent on three separate occasions. After fighting his own Republican Party to regain a House seat in 1996 (the GOP establishment preferred a turncoat Democrat in the primary), Dr. No has won re-election in the 14th Congressional District of Texas by progressively larger margins in every campaign but one. In 2004 and 2008 the Democratic Party didn’t bother running a candidate against him. All this even though Paul eschews such fail-safe political gambits as co-sponsoring (or even voting for) spending bills that benefit his constituents and makes a point of directly challenging such modern Republican notions as an ever-expanding warfare state—all while representing what he characterizes as a Bible Belt conservative stronghold.
Paul’s newsmaking 2008 presidential run emphasized a noninterventionist foreign policy that made him anathema to the rest of his party. But those views helped inspire a ragtag, young, and surprisingly large political movement that shows few signs of dissipating three years later. Animated by this unlikely coalition, Paul’s career-long crusade to shed light on, rein in, and ultimately destroy the Federal Reserve became a mass populist cause. Provisions of his perennial “audit the Fed” bill were incorporated into a bill the House passed in 2009 (although it did not become law). To the surprise of many, after Republicans retook the House of Representatives in November 2010, he became chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, which oversees the Federal Reserve.

Save the USA by Restoring Government to Its Proper Role
![]() |

Activist Post
The USA is at a tipping point where spending reductions and legal reforms must be made or we will have a more severe economic crash than the one we have experienced since 2008. The US Dollar has lost over 95% of its purchasing power since 1913, and faces further losses if we don’t make changes soon. The GOP ‘Path to Prosperity’ sounds good, but only asks for minor spending cuts while saying nothing about our failing monetary system and costly military bases and wars. The world views us as a failing empire, and other major nations are making preparations to replace our dominance in financial and political matters. This article shows how we can reduce our arrogant excesses and avoid an economic and political crash.

Monetary Revolution Begins With Competing Currencies
![]() |

Activist Post
In recent interviews, Congressman Ron Paul has been promoting the idea of legalizing competing currencies in the process of diffusing the Federal Reserve's monopoly over money.
As the Fed's strongest political critic, Paul will now be in a position as the new Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy to enforce more transparency and push for alternative currencies to compete with the dollar.
Already, his unprecedented measure to audit the Fed was passed in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Despite being a watered down version from the original with 300-plus cosponsors in the House, it will still accomplish more transparency of the Fed. Paul has also introduced a lesser-known piece of legislation that he says is vital to reforming monetary policy and restoring economic freedom: the Free Competition in Currency Act of 2009 (HR 4248).
The premise of this bill is that private or public monopolies are naturally destructive to freedom, especially when that monopoly can legally counterfeit the nation's currency with little oversight. Paul says during his floor statement to introduce the bill that the Federal Reserve is a "dangerous organization" that "does not allow competition because they know they can't compete."
Bill HR 4248 will essentially do three things: 1) repeal legal tender laws to remove the monopoly control of the Federal Reserve, 2) legalize private mints to issue coins to be controlled by anti-fraud and anti-counterfeit laws, and, 3) remove taxes from precious metal coins to ensure fair competition among new currencies.
Paul adds that it will provide a smooth transition away from the Fed, pointing out that "if nobody wanted to use them (competing currencies), they wouldn't have to, and everybody could be happy with the Federal Reserve. But if the situation gets so chaotic that the people are looking for an alternative, they can go over to start operating in another currency."
Obviously, coins made with precious metals will maintain, or increase, in value should the world reserve currency, the U.S. dollar, continue its decline. It is this store-of-wealth component and Constitutional obligation to pay all debts in silver or gold coinage that drives Paul's monetary philosophy. And although he prefers the private production of coinage, his proposal to de-monopolize the Fed through competition does not discriminate against paper or public alternative currencies.
Some regional paper currencies have already been in circulation for years such as Ithaca HOURS and BerkShares. According to the HOURS organization, local currencies are perfectly legal "as long as it does not look like dollars, as long as denominations are at least $1.00 value, and if it is regarded as taxable income." In other words, they are essentially tied to U.S. dollars and must be taxed the same.
![]() |
| Ithaca 2 HOUR Note |
The organization offers one-year, interest-free loans to local businesses. The supply of HOURS increases with these short-term loans, by issuing grants for local nonprofit organizations, a 5% annual operating/printing fee paid to a local printer, and when members sign up or renew memberships where they receive 2 - 4 HOURS for doing so. HOURS are not redeemable for dollars in banks in order to encourage local commerce.
In contrast, BerkShares, used in western Massachusetts, are directly redeemable in dollars at several participating banks. Their official website describes them as:
BerkShares are a tool for community empowerment, enabling merchants and consumers to plant the seeds for an alternative economic future for their communities. Launched in the fall of 2006, BerkShares had a robust initiation, with over one million BerkShares having been circulated in the first nine months and over 2.7 million to date. Currently, more than four hundred businesses have signed up to accept the currency. Five different banks have partnered with BerkShares, with a total of thirteen branch offices now serving as exchange stations.

Although Ron Paul specifically mentions allowing private coinage of precious metals, these regional paper currencies provide an important alternative exchange structure should the dollar collapse. It is said that these competing currencies are backed by local relationships and labor, but it seems it was their peg to the dollar that helped early skeptics trust their value. Now that the motivation for creating currency alternatives to the Federal Reserve note is rooted in the instability of the dollar, it will be interesting to see if these communities maintain faith in their value should the dollar fail in dramatic fashion.
Western Michigan is one region that has been increasingly accepting silver or gold as a competing currency for local goods and services. A man even paid for $25 of gasoline with a half-ounce silver "barter medallion" bearing Ron Paul's likeness:
Another benefit of using gold and silver as a regional competing currency is that their value is border-less, whereas a new paper-currency may have difficulty expanding trust in times of lost faith in the fiat dollar. However, the established infrastructure for alternative paper currencies may prove to be a quicker regional solution should a dollar crisis unfold rapidly.
Ultimately, the principle of competition is of utmost importance for monetary reform. The argument is that when free market principles take hold, the most stable and trustworthy alternative currencies will likely grow in scale and coverage, yet their competition will continue to keep them honest.

5 Signs the End is Near for the Criminal Banks
When will we get justice from the banksters? HINT: As soon as we demand justice and not a moment sooner.
Activist Post
Could it be any more clear? The international banks are proven criminal entities -- everyone knows it, and everyone is beginning to openly say it. Yet they are still apparently considered "Too-Big-to-Jail" by our public legislators.
Politicians from around the world continue to bow to the will of the banksters, whether they be in the private sector, privately-owned central banks, or global private banks, while the people continue to be brazenly looted to fund their criminal enterprise.
Our leaders are being forced by the international banks to give them public pensions and demand higher taxes without the consent of the voting public. So much for sovereign countries making their own laws. This, after these very bankers brought the nations of the world to their knees in the first place. The emperor is nearly naked for all to see; however, the final curtain to be pulled will thrust the angry populace well over the tipping point when they realize their servitude was purchased with fraudulent money.
It's all an illusion to enslave us. This insanity is about to end. We have the power to change our reality, but only if we have the collective awareness, courage and will to take it. The time for liberty and justice is here for free humans to live in a lawful society. We must immediately demand justice: seize the criminals' assets, release all debt prisoners, and reform our monetary system.
Here are 5 signs that the end is near for the criminal banks:
1. Global Awareness is growing among the peasants: Bloomberg recently reported that more than half of Americans polled want the Fed reined in or abolished. This poll indicates tremendous expansion of the public's knowledge of the Fed in America. This tipping point of awareness has already turned to rage in Europe.
2. Wikileaks to release Banking file: Regardless of what these new cables actually reveal, the WikiLeaks saga has hit center stage and will undoubtedly reveal a further wealth of criminal activity. This soap-opera-like, headline-grabbing story is guaranteed to penetrate even the laziest of mainstream news viewers.
3. Defaulting on Debt as a form of protest: The global awareness of the Greatest Bank Robbery of both individuals and governments already has led to a major shift in mentality regarding debt and one's obligation to pay it back. People are refusing to pay their credit cards (or not using them); walking away from mortgages; and are suing banks in the fraudulent mortgage scam. This is a movement that is beginning to recognize the system itself as an immoral one, so there is no moral obligation to further support criminality by participating. This is a massive paradigm shift which will have a "trickle-up" effect, as this mentality eventually asserts itself on governments to stop cooperating with the proven thieves of the banking industry. Governments will have to make the choice either to throw the banksters under the bus, or face their own possible collapse.
4. Ron Paul to chair Fed oversight: Author of End The Fed
, Ron Paul, was named chairman of the House subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy that oversees the Fed. He openly and repeatedly refers to the bankers as criminals in nearly every interview. This is clearly a sign that the Fed's days of running the plantation are coming to an end. Over 25 years in the making, Ron Paul finally will have his platform.
5. After-the-Fed debate heats up: The focus until this point has been to End The Fed. Now the focus has shifted to the assumption that the Fed's days are truly numbered. The time has arrived for groups advocating a new monetary policy to fiercely debate what type of system should replace the current private central bank. This preparation and debate indicates that a collapse of the current banking structure is a foregone conclusion.
The above points are being addressed simultaneously as discussion is increasing about the fact that it is mathematically impossible ever to pay off the fraudulent debt that has been created. Once this is realized by the majority, the end of the criminal banks will be seen not only as a near-term possibility; it will be seen as a self-evident necessity. It is, in fact, The Bankers or Us:
