New Snowden Archive Offers Public Access to Surveillance Documents

Activist Post

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has announced the launch of the Snowden Archive, a comprehensive database of all of the documents published to date from the Snowden leak.

Created in partnership with the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto, the Archive is the world’s first fully indexed and searchable collection of publicly released Snowden documents.

The Archive is a powerful resource for journalists, researchers and concerned citizens to find new stories and to delve deeply into the critically important information about government surveillance practices made public thanks to Edward Snowden.

DoD Releases ''Evidence'' of Snowden’s Damages to National Security … and it’s COMPLETELY Redacted

Carey Wedler

Per a Freedom of Information Act Request lawsuit filed byVice News, the Department of Defense has released a report on the damaging effects of Edward Snowden’s 2013 NSA leaks.

The only problem? It’s redacted. Entirely. Not a crumb of evidence was present in the “evidence” the government released.

Snowden, CDC whistleblower: who owns information?

Jon Rappoport

Let me start with this general statement: there are scientists and politicians who are trained like dogs to believe that corrections to the deepest crimes of government can be achieved through an orderly structure and process.

This belief is a form of mind control. It’s engraved in a place where so-called rational people still entertain a fairy tale about rescue and “everything working out properly, through channels.”

Among the many differences between Ed Snowden and William Thompson, the CDC whistleblower, there is one striking similarity.

They’ve both taken government documents. In Snowden’s case, NSA material. In Thompson’s case, CDC vaccine-data.

Casual readers of the Thompson scandal don’t seem to realize that, beyond his public statement admitting gross fraud in a 2004 study falsely exonerating the MMR vaccine and its connection to autism, Thompson has sent out thousands of pages of CDC vaccine data to several people. And as yet, we don’t know what these pages contain.

New NSA Autonomous Weapons System Intercepts Threats and Retaliates Automatically

Mac Slavo

The name of it is telling.

“MonsterMind.”

They could just as easily have called it Skynet, the computer network of Terminator franchise fame that eventually led to the destruction of the modern world.

Though not as advanced just yet, MonsterMind is a new autonomous cyber weapons system developed by the National Security Agency and according to Edward Snowden is capable of not only intercepting every single digital communication within the United States, but it can automatically detect and launch retaliatory strikes without any human involvement if a threat has been identified.

AP CONSPIRES WITH U.S. GOVERNMENT TO “SPOIL” SNOWDEN 2.0 REVELATIONS

Alarming example of how state works with mainstream media to justify its malfeasance

Another alarming example of how the U.S. government works hand in hand with the mainstream media to justify its malfeasance emerged today when the Associated Press published a story about the scope of the terror watchlist in advance as part of a ploy to “spoil the scoop” and water down the impact of the new revelations.

A huge new article by the Intercept reveals how under the Obama administration the size of the terror watchlist has expanded ten fold, with nearly half of the names on the list having no link to terrorism whatsoever.

New Guardian Interview with Edward Snowden

The Guardian

Snowden says technologies in Orwell's 1984 are 'quaint'. "Nowadays we actually buy cell phones that are the equivalant to a network microphone that we carry around in our pockets voluntarily." Also, Snowden reveals that NSA workers routinely pass around nude or intimate photos.

Greenwald Reveals American Targets of NSA Snooping

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...
Glenn Greenwald promised he had at least one more major story originating from the documents leaked by Edward Snowden. He has now provided what he had pretty much promised: the names of a handful of Americans who were under surveillance by the FBI and National Security Agency (NSA). He and Murtaza Hussain detail five targets at The Intercept:
• Faisal Gill, a longtime Republican Party operative and one-time candidate for public office who held a top-secret security clearance and served in the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush;
• Asim Ghafoor, a prominent attorney who has represented clients in terrorism-related cases;
• Hooshang Amirahmadi, an Iranian-American professor of international relations at Rutgers University;
• Agha Saeed, a former political science professor at California State University who champions Muslim civil liberties and Palestinian rights;
• Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the country.
Read much, much more here. There are also video interviews with three of the targets.

How Covert Agents Infiltrate the Internet to Manipulate, Deceive, and Destroy Reputations

Glenn Greenwald

Featured photo - How Covert Agents Infiltrate the Internet to Manipulate, Deceive, and Destroy ReputationsA page from a GCHQ top secret document prepared by its secretive JTRIG unit
One of the many pressing stories that remains to be told from the Snowden archive is how western intelligence agencies are attempting to manipulate and control online discourse with extreme tactics of deception and reputation-destruction. It’s time to tell a chunk of that story, complete with the relevant documents.
Over the last several weeks, I worked with NBC News to publish a series of articles about “dirty trick” tactics used by GCHQ’s previously secret unit, JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group). These were based on four classified GCHQ documents presented to the NSA and the other three partners in the English-speaking “Five Eyes” alliance. Today, we at the Intercept are publishing another new JTRIG document, in full, entitled “The Art of Deception: Training for Online Covert Operations.”
By publishing these stories one by one, our NBC reporting highlighted some of the key, discrete revelations: the monitoring of YouTube and Blogger, the targeting of Anonymous with the very same DDoS attacks they accuse “hacktivists” of using, the use of “honey traps” (luring people into compromising situations using sex) and destructive viruses. But, here, I want to focus and elaborate on the overarching point revealed by all of these documents: namely, that these agencies are attempting to control, infiltrate, manipulate, and warp online discourse, and in doing so, are compromising the integrity of the internet itself.
Among the core self-identified purposes of JTRIG are two tactics: (1) to inject all sorts of false material onto the internet in order to destroy the reputation of its targets; and (2) to use social sciences and other techniques to manipulate online discourse and activism to generate outcomes it considers desirable. To see how extremist these programs are, just consider the tactics they boast of using to achieve those ends: “false flag operations” (posting material to the internet and falsely attributing it to someone else), fake victim blog posts (pretending to be a victim of the individual whose reputation they want to destroy), and posting “negative information” on various forums. Here is one illustrative list of tactics from the latest GCHQ document we’re publishing today:

A Christmas Message from Edward Snowden

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Edward Snowden’s alternative Christmas message demanding an end to mass surveillance was broadcast at 4:15 p.m. GMT. Original post follows below the video.

British television’s Channel 4, known for broadcasting “unusual but relevant” figures’ holiday messages as opposed to the Queen of England’s annual speech, has chosen whistle-blower Edward Snowden to convey this year’s address.

Snowden, who is responsible for opening our eyes to the omnipresence of the National Security Agency’s surveillance, was recorded by filmmaker Laura Poitras in Russia where he’s been granted temporary asylum. Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald have helped Snowden leak NSA documents and are now starting a news website funded by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar.
Although Snowden’s dispatch isn’t scheduled to appear on television until Wednesday afternoon, The Guardian has collected some snippets that have been televised in advance:
In excerpts from the address released by Channel 4, Snowden says George Orwell “warned us of the danger of this kind of information” in his dystopian novel, 1984.
Snowden says: “The types of collection in the book – microphones and video cameras, TVs that watch us – are nothing compared to what we have available today. We have sensors in our pockets that track us everywhere we go. Think about what this means for the privacy of the average person.
“A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They’ll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves an unrecorded, unanalysed thought. And that’s a problem because privacy matters; privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we want to be.”
In the other extract of the address released, Snowden notes the political changes that have taken place since his leaked the cache documents to newspapers including the Guardian. He highlights a review of the NSA’s power that recommended it be no longer permitted to collect phone records in bulk or undermine internet security, findings endorsed in part by Barack Obama, and a federal judge’s ruling that bulk phone record collection is likely to violate the US constitution.
Snowden says: “The conversation occurring today will determine the amount of trust we can place both in the technology that surrounds us and the government that regulates it. Together we can find a better balance, end mass surveillance and remind the government that if it really wants to know how we feel, asking is always cheaper than spying.”
The whistle-blower’s message, though filmed and broadcast on another continent, comes across crystal clear, especially his words on the conversation that wouldn’t be possible today were it not for his efforts to inform society of the NSA’s unjust methods. Now, as Snowden explains, it’s our turn to effect change side by side and alter our dystopian reality.

Police State Britain

Britain's Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) operates like NSA. They work cooperatively. They're out-of-control rogue agencies.

They spy on their own populations. They do it globally. They conduct espionage. They collect enormous amounts of personal information. They do it illegally.

Obama wages war on freedom. He targets whistleblowers and investigative journalists exposing government wrongdoing. So does Britain. It equates doing so with terrorism.

London's Guardian is threatened. Its offices were raided. Hard drive stored information was destroyed. Its editor, Alan Rusbridger, was warned. Cease and desist or else.

The UN has a new member: the NSA

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...
Jon Rappoport

The NSA joined the UN in 2012. But they didn’t go through the usual process. Instead, they hacked in and began bugging UN teleconferences at its New York headquarters.

Der Spiegel, based on another Snowden leak, reports, quoting an NSA document: “The data traffic gives us internal video conferencing of the United Nations (yay!)”

We’re not just talking about General Assembly meetings. NSA had to crack code to get in. Presumably, these were smaller, more private sessions.

Der Speigel also mentions that NSA has been spying on the EU delegation in New York, the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Commission), and 80 embassies and consulates around the world.

At this point, I’d normally write something like, “So who hasn’t the NSA been spying on? You, in your home?” But we already know the Agency is collecting information on all of us.

Snowden Tells NYT That Media Sold Out After 9/11

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...
Activist Post

NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden had some harsh words for the New York Times and the rest of the corporate media.

In an interview with Snowden, put together by filmmaker Laura Poitras who worked with Glenn Greenwald on the original disclosure, the New York Times got an earful indictment of their complicity to government policies.

Snowden told the New York Times that the media "abdicated" its role as a watchdog of government after 9/11:

After 9/11, many of the most important news outlets in America abdicated their role as a check to power -- the journalistic responsibility to challenge the excesses of government -- for fear of being seen as unpatriotic and punished in the market during a period of heightened nationalism. From a business perspective, this was the obvious strategy, but what benefited the institutions ended up costing the public dearly. The major outlets are still only beginning to recover from this cold period.
