Global Political Awakening
Be The 5 Percent is an Arkansas based grassroots political organization focused on an effort to gain ballot access for Libertarian Party candidates in all 50 States.
A local activist and Gary Johnson supporter, Travis Foster, presented the idea to his fellow Libertarian friends who recently gathered in Little Rock, Arkansas for a Gary Johnson Sign Waving Event which was featured on the front page of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
The website domain was purchased and designed within 24 hours and received over 1000 unique hits within the first few days of operation. The group of Arkansas Libertarian Party activists also established a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites.
"We want our fellow Americans to know they have a choice on Election Day! Many Americans do not relate to either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama and consider themselves fiscally conservative and socially tolerant." - Be The 5 Percent Spokesperson, Meg Kunert.
From the Be The 5 Percent website:
How Does a Vote For Gary Johnson End the Two Party System?
5% is all that is needed! 5% of the popular vote will grant the Libertarian Party matching campaign funds, major party status, ballot access in all 50 states, and participation in nationally televised debates with the other major parties.
Be The 5 Percent's website also addresses the fact that only 3% of the popular vote in Arkansas will ensure that the Libertarian Party will maintain Ballot access and continue to run great third party options at the state, county, and local levels! Polling in Arkansas shows that Romney is leading Obama by 25% and will clearly win the state and our electoral votes. If 5% of the public votes for Gary Johnson, former two term New Mexico Governor, Romney will still easily win Arkansas. But a vote for Gary Johnson will end the two party system forever!
Be the 5 Percent also supports election reform and the Free and Equal Elections Foundation which recently hosted the Free and Equal Presidential Debate, a truly historic event moderated by Larry King, formerly with CNN's Larry King Live and Christina Tobin, Free and Equal Elections Foundation founder. Following the debate, which included Governor Gary Johnson, Libertarian Party; Dr. Jill Stein, Green Party; Rocky Anderson, Justice Party; and Virgil Goode, Constitution Party; the Free and Equal Elections Foundation allowed anyone who visited their website to rank the Third Party Candidates in order to select two candidates to debate each other on November 5, 2012. The last debate was streamed live at Free and Equal and aired live on Russia Today, OraTV, and C-Span (the only western media organization to air the debate). Please visit Free and Equal Elections Foundation for more information about the upcoming Presidential Debate on November 5th. Mitt Romney and Barack Obama both declined the invitation to participate in either debate.
"We hope everyone will visit Be The 5 Percent to learn more about our effort and share the information and videos with their friends and family. You may contact us on the website if you would like to get involved or if you have any questions or concerns. Please Be The 5 Percent with us!" Be The Five Percent Spokesperson, Meg Kunert.
