Washington’s Al Qaeda Ally Now Leading ISIS in Libya

Eric Draitser

The revelations that US ally Abdelhakim Belhadj is now leading ISIS in Libya should come as no surprise to those who have followed US policy in that country, and throughout the region. It illustrates for the umpteenth time that Washington has provided aid and comfort to precisely those forces it claims to be fighting around the world.

According to recent reports, Abdelhakim Belhadj has now firmly ensconced himself as the organizational commander of the ISIS presence inside Libya. The information comes from an unnamed US intelligence official who has confirmed that Belhadj is supporting and coordinating the efforts of the ISIS training centers in eastern Libya around the city of Derna, an area long known as a hotbed of jihadi militancy.

While it may not seem to be a major story – Al Qaeda terrorist turns ISIS commander – the reality is that since 2011 the US and its NATO allies have held up Belhadj as a “freedom fighter.” They portrayed him as a man who courageously led his fellow freedom-lovers against the “tyrannical despot” Gaddafi whose security forces at one time captured and imprisoned many members of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), including Belhadj.

As in Libya, So in Syria: The Folly of Interventionism

Ulson Gunnar

The United States has been inching its way toward intervention in Syria since hostilities began in 2011. From the beginning, the US State Department admitted that terrorist armies were waging war against Damascus; but both the US government, its allies in Europe, and prominent media organizations across the West repeatedly claimed that the conflict was not an invasion by multinational terrorist organizations, but rather a “pro-democracy uprising.” Now, years into the conflict, the US is finally at the threshold of direct military intervention, announcing that it would begin flights over Syria to gather “intelligence.”

Libya’s Destruction a Warning to Egypt, Syria, and Ukraine

Tony Cartalucci

RT’s article, “90% of aircraft destroyed at Tripoli airport, Libya may seek international assistance,” reported that:

Libya is considering a deployment of international force to re-establish security amid a flare-up of violence in Tripoli which saw dozens of rockets destroy most of the civilian aircraft fleet at its international airport.
“The government is looking into the possibility of making an appeal for international forces on the ground to re-establish security and help the government impose its authority,” a government spokesman, Ahmed Lamine said in a statement.
The “democratic tomorrow” promised by NATO in 2011 has been realized – that is – in the form of predictably fraudulent elections accepted by no one, leaving a power vacuum apparently to be settled through increasingly violent armed conflict. Perhaps most ironic of all is that these conflicts are being waged between NATO’s various armed proxies it used to carry out the ground war while it bombarded Libya from the air over the majority of 2011.

International Law Suffers Another Blow in Libya Conflict

NATO silent as its client regime vows "no mercy" for city of Bani Walid.

Tony Cartalucci, Contributor

The United States invoked the so-called "responsibility to protect" doctrine as justification for NATO military intervention in Libya, based on fears that the Libyan government was about to enter, and eliminate systematically, resistance in the eastern city of Benghazi. This was based on alleged statements made by Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, claiming he would hunt armed resisters, "door to door."

Image: Cover of the ICISS report on "The Responsibility to Protect," also known as R2P. R2P is a geopolitical mechanism used to couch foreign military aggression within "humanitarian concerns." NATO's use of the doctrine in Libya was based on "evidence" now admittedly fabricated by the Libyan opposition itself, with the subsequent military intervention killing by far more people than the violence it claimed it was stopping. Additionally, the intervention installed a government guilty of documented and sweeping atrocities that dwarf accusations made against Qaddafi - this includes NATO-backed rebels exterminating a city of 10-30,000 black Libyans (and here). For a definitive look at R2P, please listen to James Corbett's excellent presentation, "R2P or: How the Left Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace Wars of Imperial Aggression."

State Department Covers Up Ambassador Stevens’ Death at Rented Villa in Benghazi

Susanne Posel, Contributor

On the 11th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the US, a bombing in Libya occurred that resulted in the deaths of US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, US State Department communications specialist and former US Air Force veteran Sean Smith and two US Marines. However, the official story provided by the US government and Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State do not explain the actual events that took place before and on the attack by alleged terrorists.

John Christopher Stevens was promoted in less than 1 year through the ranks from a Pearson Fellow of the Committee on Foreign Relations to US Ambassador. His promotion is questionable. His background was as a diplomatic lawyer. Being a foreign exchange student in his youth and versed in multi-cultural government programs, Stevens had deployments to Jerusalem as a political officer and deputy principal officer, as well as working under the title of economic officer in Riyadh. Between 2007-2009, Stevens was a special representative to the National Transitional Council (NTC) during the US-sponsored Libyan revolution. Then, suddenly, Stevens is elevated to the US Ambassador status in May of 2012 when he was stationed in Tripoli.

Was Hillary Clinton Involved in Benghazi Attack to Provoke More Bloodshed?

"We came, we saw, he died" Clinton's cold words when
Gaddafi was killed and dragged through the streets.
Susanne Posel

US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, is trying to buy time after having been questioned about the planned attack and coordinated US-sponsored al-Qaeda use to facilitate the murder of the late US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

Except, there was no US Embassy in Benghazi. There was a “diplomatic office” or CIA-compound which was burned to the ground. The nearest US Embassy to the area is in Tripoli.

Stevens, hardly being a US Ambassador, but rather a gunrunner for the behind the scenes terroristic attacks by the Saudi Arabian nation on the Islamic world. Saudi Arabia adheres to Salafism, an extremist form of Islam that want all other forms of the religion wiped off the map. Stevens was ultimately killed by the same group he had provided guns and other armory for when they were employed by the US to commit the false flag attack on the CIA-compound in Benghazi.

Poetic Justice Finds US Enablers of Terror

Indeed, I asked myself, how could this happen, how could this happen in a country we helped liberate, in a city we helped save from destruction. – Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State [1]

The recent armed attack on a lightly defended United States diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya that took the life of Ambassador Christopher Stevens is an alarming reminder of the disastrous foreign policy direction being taken by Washington. Tired euphemisms of “liberation” and “freedom fighters” have grossly distorted public opinion into supporting a narrative that has very little relationship with reality. Images of the Ambassador being dragged through the streets of Benghazi are the product of a stark reality that the general public must recognize – one that is absent of the romance and fervor of televised “revolutions.”

For Ambassador Stevens, an early proponent of the no-fly zone and a staunch supporter of NATO’s campaign in Libya, the untimely death he was dealt came delivered by the very militants he enabled. The pathological reasoning of bombing a country to “save it from destruction” reflects the unrestrained irrationality of the foreign policy direction being taken under the Obama Administration and its rabid Secretary of State.

This is Your Murderous War Policy on Blow(back): Any Questions?

Activist Post

For those still confused about what the term "blowback" means in regards to America's despicable foreign policy of preemptive war, violent regime change, and sponsorship of terrorist groups to do their dirty work, perhaps the two images below can clarify what many peace activists have been warning about for some time.

US Ambassador's Death: Fruits of US Foreign Policy

US-Backed Terrorists in Syria Responsible for Ambassador's Death in Libya.

Tony Cartalucci, Contributor

The US has sworn to "make pay" those responsible for the death of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens. In reality, those responsible for Stevens' death are fully armed, funded, trained, and coordinating with NATO special forces in Libya, across North Africa, and in Syria.

Image: Ambassador Stevens (right, wearing a blue tie) had been in Benghazi, Libya since March 2011. He played a leading role in coordinating the violent subversion of Libya by listed terrorist organizations before being named "US Ambassador" to Libya. Despite Libya's capital being located over 400 miles west in Tripoli, Stevens was based out of Benghazi, the 30 year epicenter of terrorist extremism and Al Qaeda in Libya. Recent attacks on US embassies were designed to give "street credit" to sectarian extremists who are increasingly seen internationally as mercenary proxies of US-Saudi-Israeli foreign policy - Stevens' death was most likely an accident.

No one will "pay" beyond perhaps a wedding party attacked by US drones, or a limited liquidation of select terrorist groups the US created and armed during 2011's violent overthrow of the Libyan government. Meanwhile, US warships and Marines will swarm around Libya simply to fulfill Western public expectations that "something" will be done.

US-Backed Terrorists Murder US' Own Ambassador in Libya

Murdered US Ambassador exposes Libya "progress" propaganda - provides a warning against US meddling in Syria.

Tony Cartalucci, Contributor

Note: With Russia openly accusing the West of using Al Qaeda as their direct, militant proxies in Syria and beyond, this latest attempt to purposefully provoke and incite Muslims across the Arab World is an attempt by the West to reestablish the perception that the US and Israel are at war with sectarian extremists, not partnered with them. The film allegedly at the center of the violence, most likely came from the Neo-Con "Clarion Fund" or a project of similar origin.

"I have met with these brave fighters, and they are not Al-Qaeda. To the contrary: They are Libyan patriots who want to liberate their nation. We should help them do it." - Senator John McCain in Benghazi, Libya April 22, 2011.

Image: Senator John McCain in the terrorist rat nest of Benghazi after marshaling cash, weapons, and political support for militants tied directly to Al Qaeda. McCain's insistence that the terrorists he helped arm and install into power were "not Al Qaeda" runs contra to the US Army's own reports which state that Benghazi's terror brigades officially merged with Al Qaeda in 2007. McCain's "Libyan patriots" have now killed US Ambassador Stevens with RPG's most likely procured with cash and logistic networks set up by NATO last year, part of a supranational terror campaign that includes violently subverting Syria - a campaign McCain also supports.

10 Facts about Saudi Arabia; and an Introduction to the Gulf Despots Supported by the West

Astounding hypocrisy, self-censorship, and complicity by the West regarding one of the most regressive regimes on Earth.

Tony Cartalucci, Contributor
Activist Post

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) comprises of 6 nations, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. In principle, Kuwait and Bahrain are considered "constitutional monarchs;" in practice, all 6 are despotic autocracies with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman overtly "absolute monarchs." Devoid of even a feigned semblance of representative governance, these regimes brutally repress not only their own subjects, but play active roles in repressing the people of other nations, both on their borders and well beyond them.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar are playing an active role in crushing dissent in neighboring Bahrain - an opaque uprising obscured by a lack of Western media coverage - apparently the result of Western press houses conveniently ignoring unrest targeting governments linked to Western interests, while intentionally subverting nations opposed to Western interests.

The Libyan Election Farce

All candidates are neo-imperial candidates - Wall Street proxy Jibril of "National Forces Alliance" presumed winner.

Ideally the West would like to install "liberal" pro-globalist candidates into power in each of the nations it has destabilized and destroyed during its premeditated, engineered "Arab Spring." In the case of Egypt where Mohammed ElBaradei was sufficiently exposed and his presidential aspirations effectively derailed, the West's Muslim Brotherhood proxies made for a viable second option.

In Libya, a similar scenario has unfolded with two tiers of Western proxies poised to take power - pro-globalist technocrats like US-educated Mahmoud Jibril (Gibril) Elwarfally's National Forces Alliance, and of course NATO's terrorist proxies within the Muslim Brotherhoodalong with Al Qaeda-linked Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG)warlords like Abdul Hakim Belhaj.

In Egypt where relative economic and social stability returned after the brief chaos and violence of the early 2011 protests, the alternative media was able to sufficiently expose and disrupt "liberal" candidate ElBaradei. In Libya, the nation has been plunged into nationwide lawlessness, violence, and sweeping genocide by sectarian extremists, tribal confrontations, and militant opportunists. The people of Libya have been too busy defending themselves and desperately fighting for their own immediate survival to function as a nation-state, let alone scrutinize candidates politically before the farcical Western-hyped elections.
