US House votes to boost oil, gas drilling

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Amid a political war over painfully high gasoline prices, US President Barack Obama's Republican foes on Thursday pushed a bill to boost offshore oil drilling through the House of Representatives.

One year after a massive oil spill caused by an explosion on an offshore drilling rig devastated the Gulf of Mexico, more than 30 Democrats joined Republicans to approve the legislation by a 266-149 margin.

Obama's foes charged his energy policies doomed US voters to high gas prices that threaten the fragile US recovery, while Democrats accused Republicans of favoring profits for Big Oil over environmental concerns.

10 Reasons to Still Be Pissed Off About the BP Disaster

Your guide to the worst oil spill in US history, one year later.

1. BP is gunning to get back to drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. When the Department of Interior issued its first deepwater permit since the Deepwater Horizon disaster, it was for a well that BP owns half of. Earlier this month, company officials also announced that they are seeking an agreement with the US government to resume drilling at their 10 deepwater wells in the Gulf this July, arguing that they will follow tougher safety rules, the New York Times reported earlier this month. This comes even as the government is said to be considering manslaughter charges against the oil giant for the deaths of 11 workers last year.

2. People are sick. Nearly three-quarters of Gulf coast residents that the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, an environmental justice group, polled this year reported health concerns that they believe are related to the spill. Of the 954 residents in seven coastal communities, almost half said they had experienced health problems like coughing, skin and eye irritation, or headaches that are consistent with common symptoms of chemical exposure. While the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is conducting health monitoring for spill cleanup workers, residents in the areas closest to the spill are concerned that their own health problems have gone unattended.

3. Fish and other sea life in the Gulf are still struggling after the disaster. The death toll for dolphins and whales in the Gulf may have been 50 times higher than the number of bodies found, according to a recent paper in Conservation Letters. Earlier this year, a large number of dead dolphin calves were found on the coast, and scientists have linked many of those deaths to the oil disaster. Anglers are also reporting dark lesions, rotting fins, and discoloration in the fish they're catching in the Gulf, as the St. Petersburg Times reported last week.

Despite Gulf oil spill, rig owner executives get big bonuses

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
    • Transocean executives get pay raises, bonuses, SEC filing says
    • Cash awards based in part on company safety record
    • Despite Gulf oil spill, company claims 2010 "best year in safety"

Transocean declared 2010 "the best year in safety

    performance"
in company history despite the Gulf oil spill.

(CNN-- Declaring 2010 "the best year in safety performance in our company's history," Transocean Ltd., owner of the Gulf of Mexico oil rig that exploded, killing 11 workers, has awarded its top executives hefty bonuses and raises, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
That includes a $200,000 salary increase for Transocean President and Chief Executive Officer Steven L. Newman, whose base salary will increase from $900,000 to $1.1 million, according to the SEC report. Newman's bonus was $374,062, the report states.
Newman also has a $5.4 million long-term compensation package the company awarded him upon his appointment as CEO in March 2010, according to the SEC filing.
The latest cash awards are based in part on the company's "performance under safety," the Transocean filing states.

"Notwithstanding the tragic loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico, we achieved an exemplary statistical safety record as measured by our total recordable incident rate and total potential severity rate," the SEC statement reads. "As measured by these standards, we recorded the best year in safety performance in our Company's history."

Oil Apocalypse Foreseen By Credo Mutwa, Hopi Indians

    Before It's News

Zulu Shaman, or Sanusi, Credo Mutwa
In a stunning revelation, Credo Mutwa is reported to have foretold the Gulf oil disaster four months before it happened. In a notice sent out from a conference he was addressing he implies a coming oil apocolypse before 2011. However, he would not elaborate, much to the frustration of the attendees.
Following is the message that was reportedly sent from the conference.
"Credo Mutwa apparently just now said half the world's population won't see 2011 at a gathering where I'm attending.
Some delegates have walked out because he didn't want to give an acceptable explanation, he just said " it's no asteroid, comet, plaque, ... just OIL."

The Hopi Prophecies Also Foresaw "The Sea Turning Black"

Famous for their accurate depiction of the damaging onslaught of "civilization" on their lands, the Hopi prophecies distinctly describe oil pollution of the seas.  It is the seventh prediction in this poignant video.

Riki Ott: ‘People Now Dropping Dead’ In the Gulf

    Shepard Ambellas
    The Intel Hub
On the sixth month anniversary of the oil disaster in the gulf, we are still seeing a total media blackout.
The people particularly in Grand Isle have been poisoned by genocidal tyrants that care more about their pocketbooks than they care about human life or mother earth.
According to Riki Ott “The people that did evacuate (the gulf) are glad they did”
    And for good reason.”
She went on to state that deaths from the disaster are now a reality:
Riki said during an interview ” I am dealing with about 3 -4  autopsies right now… I know of people who’s esophagus’ are de-solving, disintegrating… I know of people with 4.75% of their lung capacity, with enlarged hearts… All of these people have oil in their bodies.”
It has been well documented that millions of gallons of toxic dispersants have been sprayed into the Gulf of Mexico; including near beaches, population centers, people, and boats.
The gulf oil spill is admittedly a Dept. of Defense operation as reported on by the Army Times and the Intel Hub early on.
Multiple C-130′s, military and Coast Guard, along with various types of Evergreen Air aircraft and boats have been used to carry out this deadly genocidal spraying operation in and around the region.
Boats equipped to spray have also been spotted and well documented by journalists such as Dahr Jamail. There have been reports of out of state contractors and military conducting the marine spraying operations in the region.
Reports are circulating of deaths, along with people finding VOC’s in their blood stream along with high levels of other toxins. The reports also include dizziness and typical symptoms from chemical exposure.
Unfortunately the regions economy was devastated along with the local fishing industry. People have been loosing their medical insurance and more as they are overwhelmed with financial and toxic doom.
Groups such as Project Gulf Impact and even some law firms are extending a helping hand to people in need.
One of the most unreported cases of murder, corruption and poisoning is taking place and being carried out right here on American soil before our very own eyes as the sleeping masses escape reality due to corporate media control.
