Poll: 71% Say Founding Fathers Would Be 'Disappointed' in Today's America

Activist Post

Gallup published a survey today that showed 71% of Americans say the signers of the Declaration of Independence -- the Founding Fathers -- would be 'disappointed' in the way the United States turned out.

That is a dramatic increase since the same question was posed in 2001 where only 54% of respondents said the founders would be disappointed.

Gallup cites the rising anti-government sentiment and lack of confidence in Congress as possible reasons for the increase:
This is most likely an outgrowth of Americans' current level of negativity toward their government, including the record-low level of confidence Americans have in Congress and the significant percentage of Americans who cite dissatisfaction with government as the third most important problem facing the country today.
Despite that high level of perceived disappointment, 85% say they are still "extremely or very" proud to be American.

That portion of the poll doesn't reveal much of anything, as being "American" is the only life they've ever known, and either you're content with that label or you're not.

But the fact that 71% think the founding fathers would be disappointed in today's America speaks volumes about how aware the population is becoming of obvious violations to the Constitution by the current government.
