Bloomberg: police should strike until people force legislature to take guns

Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of New York City, has been an outspoken critic of the Second Amendment for quite a while and co-founded the group known as “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” in 2006.

Bloomberg has jumped on the tragic shooting at the midnight showing of the new Batman film with alacrity in order to shamelessly push his anti-gun agenda which isperfectly in line with that of the United Nations.

On Monday night’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on CNN, Bloomberg made some astounding statements, not the least of which is saying that police should actually strike unless the public somehow forces the legislature to “do what’s required to keep us [meaning the police] safe.”

Oddly enough, Bloomberg seems to be completely ignorant of the fact that studies have shown that private gun ownership actually reduces crime and thus keeps people safe.

If Bloomberg and his anti-gun pals had their way, it would be much more difficult for the average person to legally own a firearm, thus reducing the overall number of firearms in the population and actually working against the problem which Bloomberg is supposedly trying to solve.

“I don’t understand why the police officers across his country don’t stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike. We’re not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe,’” said Bloomberg on “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

“After all, police officers want to go home to their families and we’re doing everything we can to make their jobs more difficult,” Bloomberg added.

This statement is completely nonsensical. How would the reduction of crime make the job of police officers more difficult? Wouldn’t reduced crime make their job easier?

Then again, since Bloomberg and others just choose to ignore facts which don’t agree with their worldview, his laughable claims are hardly surprising.

Bloomberg also used the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado in order to attack President Barack Obama and presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

He claimed that they were not taking steps concrete enough to improve gun control in the United States, even though the last thing we need is more gun control and thus fewer legal gun owners.

If one is realistic, one can only come to the logical conclusion that criminals will get guns regardless of the laws which are in place. It’s just a fact of life.

Furthermore, we must take note of the fact that the alleged man behind the massacre in Colorado did not have a criminal record. Unless Bloomberg wants to start making people go through long-term in-depth psychological evaluation, testing and screening before purchasing a firearm, I don’t see how his proposal for increased gun control will have any impact on situations like this.

To respond to a tragedy like that in Colorado by cracking down on legal gun ownership is to throw the baby out with the bathwater and put the American public in considerable danger.

One of the groups getting the most heat after the Aurora shooting is the National Rifle Association, or NRA.

One of the most unbelievable comments come from Bill Moyers of PBS when he actually said that the NRA is an “enabler of death — paranoid, delusional, and as venomous as a scorpion.”

Among other absurdist statements, Moyer said, “Firearm violence may cost our country as much as $100 billion a year. Toys are regulated with greater care and safety concerns than guns … we have become so gun loving, so blasé about home-grown violence that in my lifetime alone, far more Americans have been casualties of domestic gunfire than have died in all our wars combined.”

Moyers also said that the NRA is “the best friend a killer’s instinct ever had,” placing a great deal of the blame on the pro-gun organization.

How can Moyers actually make such clearly ludicrous statements and expect people to take him seriously? Why would the NRA be at all responsible for a young man with no criminal record being able to procure weaponry which he used on a rampage?

Unless Moyers is one of the truly delusional individuals who thinks all people should be disarmed and prevented from owning firearms, I don’t see how he can actually claim that the NRA is responsible in any way for this tragedy.

The fact is, guns don’t kill people. People kill people. Until individuals like Bloomberg and Moyers realize that, we’re going to be struggling to maintain our rights protected by the Second Amendment.
